Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe beds are extremely hard, and even though we stayed in the Chancellor's building (which is nicer than Lee/Holland House etc.), there was still a lot of dust and floor falling apart in the bathroom. It's functional, but not fantastic for the cost (Which is understandable during Fringe, when everywhere is extortionate)
Breakfast at JMCC is always a highlight with a fantastic choice and it caters for everyone - just remember to take your keycard! The location was a 20-30 mins walk from all the major Fringe venues. It feels very safe.

IrelandThe rooms are a bit dated, and the mattresses thin.
The breakfast was great, lots of options and a good setup by staff. Usually arrived there at around 09:30 each morning and fresh food was constantly being served. Great service.

AustraliaEverything about this place is spot on, from the convenience of it's location to the thoroughness of checking in and checking out, very well managed, and last but not least The Breakfasts are exceptional, everything is so organised and the food is excellent ! They also have a separate bar and restaurant to wind down in after a day out sightseeing ! This was my second time here and it will most definitely not be my last ! CONGRATULATIONS on a job well done !...👏👏👏👏🙋♀️🙋♀️

United KingdomThe quality of the room was shocking. For the money we were paying, you didn't even get a bedside lamp. The bed was really squeaky, and the pillows were basically tea towels. Because it was the Fringe, the hospitality sector rip off the tourists.
Location was fabulous with amazing view of Arthur's Seat

United StatesThis is a dorm built in the 90s. Don’t fool yourself. The beds are low. The mattresses are thin and the pillows have been through more than we’d like to see under an infrared light. It’s a little institutional because… wait for it, it’s an institution. Also you aren’t super close to downtown. Prepare to walk 4 km in each direction at least. We did that 4 times a day.
I was taking my son to see the University so I liked that we were getting the school experience. We also had fun finding a ping pong table and a laundry room. Also found the music room and composed some music on a beautiful 20th c Steinway that was out of tune. Fringe was starting and loads of kids were in town. It was a blast and my son loved all the social energy. Breakfast is a scene that must be experienced. I actually loved watching the throngs of international people streaming through. It’s bananas but it’s what we wanted to see.

Very nice experience, last year I lived next door at The Scholar Hotel, which although wonderful, was too expensive this year. The dormitory is clean, comfortable, away from the hustle and bustle of tourists, close to the great attraction - Arthur's Seat

MexicoWe were suppose to stay with other friends (same dates but separate booking). But the accommodation canceled their reservation the same day they where supposed to check in (like 3 hours before the Chek in), so they needed to desperately find a new place to stay and pay insane fares. I understand cancelations happens, but same day cancelations should be punished by booking somehow.

SloveniaRooms are structured all around the campus building, one room was on its far end it took as a while to get down to the lobby.
Campus accommodation with double rooms, very comfortable and clean just beneath Hoyrood park, you can go hiking, walking, jogging, golfing in the park. We mainly walked to the city (25min - one way), Uber costs about 5-7GBP one way (depending on drop-off location). Breakfast was good, at the time of visit campus was full and there was a lot of people. There is also a dinner option (we didn't take that). People in the reception desk were extremely nice and helpful providing all necessary info with some sightseeing tips. On the campus there is a small shop (if you forget to buy in the city) as well as bar. Unfortunately only booked 2 nights

CanadaDirections to check in ( see above ) were scant. I stayed in a so called suite that had a single bed and desk area with generous desk and private bathroom. The bathroom was small, had 2 large bath towels , no hand towel and no facecloth- this may also be the norm in some parts of Scotland. Very very basic kit for a 3 star accommodation. As my shower had no hose attached- this was most inconvenient for drying hands after doing abolutions ( I dedicated one big bath towel instead ) and with no face cloth- made it difficult to get at “ nether regions” both front and back with soap and cloth . As I was only in Glasgow downtown prior to this in a 3/4 star hotel for several days that had fuller bathroom kit- and have not really done a university residence stay ever before- I have little else to go on. Small point- but ladies- bring your own fast drying cloth if you need to be thorough of washing up the nether regions in this hotel setup. My daughter( performing at Fringe for the first time) ended up in a residence that had “ down the hall “ bathrooms and showers” and her room without bathroom about the same size as mine.
The breakfast at the general hall was excellent . A buffet style brekkie with choices of hot and cold. I suspect they feed over a thousand people during Fronge. Don’t show up much past 9:35 am to give yourself time and choices as they roll out the food starting at 9:55 and nil left at 10:00. If you have to leave before brekkie starts or arrive too late-the main front desk( open 24/7 during Fringe- will give you a boxed version of dried foods to take on your journey that day. Front desk- exceptional with their help- every time. The location is fabulous- walking distance of up to several miles of downtown. If you are into hiking etc- Holyrood park is less than 1 km away and if you are fit and adventurous and have some time- scramble to the top of Arthur’s Seat available. We did the Crags/ Craig’s a lower version of the higher climb- with plenty of Edinburgh city views. The city buses are excellent.Get/ download the city of Edinburgh transport app before you arrive( I did not) - lend it your location for your stay- and it will tell you the next bus coming near you and how far your walk etc. The Commonwealth Pools bus stop is the closest stop to the Pollock Halls residences and if you arrive by city bus- get off and walk 150 meters back towards city centre in front of the indoor pool complex towards a big intersection of Dalkeith Road and Holyrood Park Drive. Turn down Holyrood Park Drive( heading in direction of Holyrood Park)and walk about another 200 meters -and you find an unmarked road with a gatehouse and turn right again and another 100 meters and you are at the main reception for the Pollock Halls of residence. This is where you check in- not at the named Hall that Booking.com tells you will be staying at( I stayed at John Burnett house for 5 nights in early August/23 as Fringe began). The front desk will then give you an electronic key that gets you into your residence.
