Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomGap between headboard and bed made it slightly uncomfortable. A kettle and cup in room would be nice, even if tea and coffee isn’t provided, would be nice to have the facility to make them

United KingdomShared bathrooms (approx 1 per 4 rooms) were OK, no problems with availability and generally clean and tidy but mastic in one I used needs to be replaced due to black mould growth.
Good location for Edinburgh Fringe events - 25-30 min walk to old town venues. Pleasant parkland-like setting with backdrop of Arthur’s Seat. Good buzz with lots of young people around. Simple but adequate study bedrooms. Good breakfasts but don’t expect fine cuisine. Might be struggle for veggies and vegans.

The accommodation was basic but very clean. The breakfast was excellent; something for everyone. Good value for the price. Out of town but an easy bus ride to the centre of Edinburgh.

AustraliaThe water pressure in the shower could be better.
A unique experience to stay at the student accommodation for Uni of Edinburgh. Simple but comfortable rooms with all the essentials for a short stay. Good location to explore the city centre and go to some fringe shows. The buffet breakfast was also good.

United KingdomThe lift was out of order; it was repaired, but we didn’t use it (making an odd noise!), and then out of order again. The exercise did us good….and lift problems can happen anywhere.
Clean, comfortable, quiet at night. Shared bathrooms were not a problem. Breakfast was plentiful, lots of healthy choices, plus good cooked breakfast. Canteen was very well run. Bus stop nearby.

United KingdomThe reception staff are mostly students, so they can be a bit vague on things in relation to attractions, and transport, but you 'll be offered a map on arrival, and most attractions are on it. I wish someone had mentioned that the bus 30 and 33 arrive at the Common Wealth Pools, which is a 5/10 walk with a carryone to the property. You can take buses from the opposite side of Edinburgh Waverly station to the summer stay at the university and not walk with a carry-on as was suggested by reception staff, unless you have superpowers. It was disappointing that the restaurant didn't offer lunch and only evening meals. I had to resort to lunching at M&S and Pret, which was a bit boring due to my non-meat, gluten-free, and dairy intolerance. There are restaurants near the stay and please don't ever eat at Thelounge, as it was the worst and most expensive lunch I've ever had in Edinburgh.
The location is really good as you can walk to the Scotish Museum and to the Royal Mile to visit further attractions by foot. I was a solo travellor and felt very safe at the stay. The morning breakfast also catered for my non-diary and gluten-free preferences, even though it would've been nicer to have had more options than porridge, which I like, but not every day. The bathroom facilities were also very good for the price, and my twin room had a TV and kettle, which were a plus. For an economical option near attractions, this stay is value for money. I always visit Edinburgh on a five year cycle, so I'd look into staying here again if I decide to come back in the next five years.

GermanyAll excellent
Really unbeatable in terms of value-for-money. The rooms are basic but have all you need + fare includes a ginormous breakfast selection. Staff is very helpful and friendly and all sights are easily reached by bus. Really recommend to hike to the top of Arthur's seat from there (trail starts very close to the accommodation) for an amazing view of Edinburgh!

Czech RepublicNo housekeeping for stays shorter than 6 days.
Location is good, about a 20 minutes walk to the Old City and a 5 minute walk to Holyrood park. It's student dorms redesigned into a hotel for summer holidays, so don't expect too much. If you get a room with a private bathroom, then it sort of passes as a 2* hotel room, which is not bad. Reception is 24/7, very friendly staff. The breakfast buffet was the real hero of this place, it was simply superb (and they served delicious haggis, too). Overall, considering the astronomical prices for accomodation in Edinburgh, this was quite a good deal.

United KingdomNo option for single rooms when I booked. Whilst the rooms are fine, the noise in the corridors is very apparent. From 7an the ‘fire doors’ in bedrooms and corridors slam shut regularly inevitably waking any sleeping resident up with a bang! This happened every morning so sadly wasn’t a one off…
Facilities were very good, breakfast was varied (mostly English breakfast) but a good selection of fruit and other alternatives. Staff were very accommodating on arrival. There are taxis readily available by local/ Uber drivers and if the weather is nice then the walk to the city centre is between 20-40 mins depending on your destination
