Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe stayed in a garden pod...the closest Mr M will ever get to camping. The gardens were "shabby chic", which on a beautiful May day were delightful and inspiring. However, the mat into the pod was a bit grubby, the curtains at the round window were unhooked and hanging untidily. After the initial clean of the pod while we were at breakfast, there was no extra time spent... a coffee cup we had put down was still on the outdoor table the next day. Really, bird poo on outdoor tables and chairs should be cleaned off every day... They are only very small gripes as overall we enjoyed our stay, but attention to cleaning and maintenance details could really lift the place to a 9 or 10.
Beautiful quiet location. Well cooked, tasty food. Great breakfast, especially the vegetarian, which didn't fall into the vege-sausage trap, but offered wonderful alternatives. Lovely gardens.

United KingdomI stayed in the out buildings, it was very small. It was also so cold which meant I didn’t have a great sleep which was a shame as the price of room was quite high

United KingdomFood was a bit restrictive. On arrival and departure the staff could have been a bit more welcoming, and there was no ‘thank you for staying’ as we left, or ‘ we hope to see you again”. We does make a huge difference.
Room was very pleasant, quiet and nice to go downstairs for a drink

United KingdomThe room we stayed in was very noisy. Walls must be very thin. We could hear people snoring in the room one side and the TV coming from the room the other side. We didn’t sleep particularly well because of this. Ear plugs recommend.
Lovely location, amazing staff and great food.

AustraliaThe cottage was extremely small - around 8m in total. This was not evident from the photos. Whilst the space is used very well - when you are travelling and have two suitcases in was basically impractical. The shower in the toilet is also a bit confronting.
the restaurant was terrific. breakfast was really enjoyable.

United KingdomThe lighting outside could be improved at night time, the large room (not the bar) is a little cold until the fire gets going.
The property itself is beautiful, and has been lovingly and tastefully restored, the facilities are clean and comfortable and the rooms are lovely. The food is excellent, high quality locally sourced and the chef really knows how to cook simple dishes really well. It is of a consistently high standard. The breakfast is of a very high standard. There is. I thing in the immediate vicinity and so it is a hidden gem.

United KingdomWe stayed at The Pear Tree Inn in Wiltshire as a couple from 20th June 2022 to 24th June 2022 somewhat overpriced at £152.50 per night with dog, and breakfast included. I did not write a review straight away as unfortunately my husband and I became infected with Covid while staying in Wiltshire and it has taken a long time to recover. Too small for a couple with only one armchair. There were no facilities for the dog, no fenced off area to let her out. The cold water tap always ran with hot water, and the bathroom radiator was constantly on, with no means to turn it off. There was supposed to be bottled water in our room, but there was none left. The back terraced area was unkempt, full of weeds and the outdoor chairs and table were unclean and corroded, so obviously unsuitable for use. On the first morning, I chose scrambled eggs which were undercooked, so I avoided scrambled eggs the following mornings. Also, on the first night, we ordered two cold drinks from the bar. I said to my husband that there were strange bits floating in my glass, which made me reluctant to drink it. There was a ‘comedian’ Jared Christmas, performing on our last night. He heckled us with a tirade of offensive and bullying comments with much of his audience looking and turning towards us and laughing while we were passing by and walking the dog outside in the garden. My husband described him as a loud mouth bully, a yob with a microphone. Apparently this comedian attends The Pear Tree Inn every month, so if you don’t want to be heckled, I suggest you avoid this place when he is performing there. Paying guests seeking a quiet retreat hotel stay should not be subjected to such behaviour and when my husband complained to a manager in writing the response was unsatisfactory, snooty and patronising. I cannot recommend this hotel.
Tosca room was well presented, pretty décor, and a comfy, well-presented bed.

United KingdomThe room had a layer of dust on top of the headboard and other areas where cleaning could have been more thorough. This did trigger a dust allergy in one of our group.
What a wonderfully setting! You do not expect the Pear Tree Inn to be as large as it is from the outside. But once inside you notice that not only is this a pub and a restaurant but it also has beautiful gardens with plenty of outside seating and it has a number of rooms for guests. Ours was a duplex room with two single beds at the top for the kids and a double bed down below. We were really comfortable in the spacious ensuite bathroom. Even better is the doors open to the lovely gardens, which is fantastic on a summer's evening.

United StatesFood was great with the exception of one meal, where the steak was sent back because it was tough as old boots. Upon check out this meal was not removed from the overall bill and compensation was for a dessert only. The reaction of morning staff when checking out was “well that’s all I can do, this is what the manager did…”
