Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe said that we would not stay again which was purely due to the roads getting into and out of Pulruan. We found that the single track roads were very taxing when you met traffic, in particular the road to Fowey's vehicle ferry crossing was very challenging these roads were very dark, narrow and windy, passing through woodland areas where the road was often lined with dry walls and roads were muddy and slippery for much of the journey leading down towards the crossing point. The bungalow is located at the top of the village and it is only possible to unload your vehicle outside if you own a 4 wheel drive or SUV vehicle. We are pensioners and have a car, subsequently we had to make several journeys to and from the public car park with cases and baggage at either end of our stay; although not to far the path's were not surfaced (mixture of grass banks, coastal path track, and an uneven gravel and pot-holed road leading to the property), luckily we had good weather so these were not muddy or slippery underfoot. The village itself is very hilly and not suitable for the faint hearted/elderly people. The walk down to the shops, tearooms, pub and harbour area was steep and returning back to the bungalow was not always welcome at the end of a day out.
Pulruan is a beautiful fishing village with outstanding views across the estuary to Fowey. The bungalow itself was located at the top of the village and we found Battery Park to be a very quiet and peaceful area. The bungalow is very well equiped and adequate for two persons. The local shop and bakery were sufficient for day to day purchases, and the fresh produce in the grocery shops at Fowey were outstanding. The water taxi service to Fowey was excellent running very frequently throughout the day and well into the evening. Fowey was a charming town with lots of facilities including a good range of places to eat.

The kitchen has everything you need, very well set out and nice quality plates etc. , beds are comfortable and the rooms smell amazing! Great wifi signal. Lots of books to read, games too. Very quiet area and great for sight seeing. It was perfect for us as a location. We will return here. The owner is very quick to reply to message too :-)

United KingdomThe garbage wasn't collected, hence the gulls had a field day. The path to the property was overgrown and needs a better path , not cared for to well.
The property was good, cozy, lots of things left in cupboards etc.

United KingdomNothing really. You expect access to be challenging when you are perched on a hilltop. We probably wouldn’t have found it without the help of a neighbour though. It took us a day or two to work out the heating
Charmingly decorated and well equipped. Well thought out and we would have liked to use the scenic patio if the weather had been warmer

New ZealandJust go prepared with food at the trip down to the little (well stocked!) shop is lovely but very steep. Not really a problem but I am very glad we did a big shop before Polruan.
I was excited before we actually went to the property as it the location seemed perfect for a week with my two University aged kids. When we arrived we were really impressed with the cottage - it was warm, very clean with a fully stocked large kitchen (my two love cooking so they were thrilled). The beds were comfy, the view superb and the open fire was a real treat as it was easy to light and drew well. Being able to easily access Polruan (delightful relatively untouched Cornish village), Fowey across the harbour on the little local ferry, the coastal path and then only a 45 min drive to The Eden Project, Pentire was just perfect for us. It rained and was windy some of the time but this was not a problem as there was a whole cupboard of games, lots of books and good wifi. I have spread the word amongst my friends and family

United KingdomNo kitchen knives. Failed lightbulbs. Bath hot fill very slow. Heating controls locked. Noise from dog next door (another holiday let – not owner's fault, just bad luck!) Entrance via six narrow steps one of which has lost its edge. Second bedroom quite cramped.
Terrace with up-river view, also good views from bay windows, good shower, near to main car park, good price, quick response to messages, nice decor, comfortable, wood stove in lounge for winter

United KingdomIt would be better if we could park close to Pentire, but our car wasn't suitable for the rough road. The local carpark (£30/wk) was fine, but the walk to Pentire didn't favour wheeled luggage.
Pentire was well equipped and comfortable. We enjoyed watching the seagull chicks on several neighbouring roofs. The village of Polruan was very picturesque, the views of the coast were lovely, and the walk to the ferry was not to be rushed.

United KingdomIt all depends where you stay in Cornwall as it covers a huge area and some of the more popular family attractions were a good drive away.
The location is superb. There are steep areas to and from the harbour but all very pretty. Car parking at the harbour is at an absolute minimal so walking there is best. The cottage is lovely. There were some queries which we discussed with the owner by text and she was receptive and helpful. As the road directly to the cottage is unsuitable for most cars, we used the car park as recommended and it is yards away from the cottage. Good amount of sunshine to the patio area and it was interesting watching the cruise ships arriving and leaving, along with other types of vessels to the sailing boats and little passenger ferries. We saw a couple of low flying helicopters and light aircraft, so there was plenty to watch and see. There is not a lot of nightlife in the harbour unless you are lucky enough to go when the regattas are on, but we were looking for a quiet, restful holiday and that is what we got in beautiful surroundings with amazing views of the sea and the harbour. .

United KingdomAs others have pointed out, access could be tricky if you have limited mobility, and there's no on site parking, however the car park was less than a minute walk for us, and this is fairly typical for fishing village accommodation, so not a problem for us at all.
A charming well equipped cottage which was perfect for the restful holiday we wanted and a great base to explore the region. Stunning views and walks from the cottage, and we loved sitting on the outdoor patio at night watching the harbour lights and boats, bats and baby seagulls. Michelle's information was really helpful prior to our arrival. We travelled over on the little ferry to Fowey a few times for dinner and shops, but we were glad to be in the more peaceful Polruan. Beds were super comfy, as was the couch, and loved the views from bedroom and living room windows.

United KingdomUnfortunately when we arrived the cottage was very cold and felt damp, even though we were told that the storage heaters had been left on for us so it would be warm on arrival. On the second day when we had contact with the host, she asked us not to overuse the plug in heaters as it was costing her a lot in electric bills (£30 in 24 hours) and to use hot water bottles to keep the beds warm, even though only one was provided. Unfortunately the storage heaters were not sufficient and the property remained cold, which with two young children this was not ideal. Due to this we had to keep the heater on in the kids bedroom overnight to keep them warm. The coal that was left for the fire was damp along with the matches which made it impossible to light. Also the wood for the fire was left in the shed which made it damp and unusable. Upon arrival we noticed black mold marks on the wall in the main bedroom next to the window and mud around the bottom of the toilet. I took photos of this but didn't send them to the host as it was late when we arrived. The second day the fuse blew in the shed making the washing machine unusable. I messaged the host who was quick to respond and told us to check the fuse box. Even after flicking the fuse this did not solve the issue as the socked had been damaged through damp so we used an extension lead from the cottage to fix the issue. By the time we had solved the issue it was late and didn't message to inform the host (with it being Christmas Eve). On the last day of our stay I took more photos of the damage caused by the damp and sent them to the host. On doing so she not only blamed us for all the damage but also called us bad parents for having a young child in that environment. In hindsight I really wish I had sent the photos on the same day, but I did not want to start off our holiday on a bad note and deliver bad news to the host as nothing would have been resolved at that point.
The cottage was in a lovely location and was only a short walk to the car park. We were left clear instructions on how to gain access to the cottage and a welcome folder was left with useful in formation.

United KingdomAccess to the property is by foot only (road repairs outstanding) and the area is poorly sign posted. Directions provided were inadequate. We arrived at dusk and it was dark by the time we located the property and unloaded our luggage etc. Not a good start. The picture shown is of the rear of the property and the garden is so overgrown that you can't spot it from a distance. The property needs a good tidy up and deep clean, the windows, kitchen but particularly the patio and outside areas. Weeds & stingers are growing all over the patio and around the outside of the property. The view from the patio attracted me to this property but sadly in it's current state we felt unable to relax outside. The Wifi instructions were out of date but thankfully a phone call to the host in France resolved the issue. Our biggest problem was the lack of hot water. We were advised the problem had been resolved before our arrival. Sadly, it had not and we spent our week with no hot water for the kitchen and bathroom sink. There is an electric shower in the bathroom. On reflection, we were disappointed the hosts made no offer of compensation for the lack of hot water.
Polruen is a quaint village facing Fowey with a reliable bus and ferry service and helpful, friendly locals. The key safe access to the property and internal night lights worked well. The double bed was comfy and use of freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer was appreciated.

United KingdomThe bedrooms and bathroom needed a deep clean. There were hairs everywhere, the shower head was dirty and it felt generally grubby. A Welcome pack would have been very much appreciated as the shops shut early we couldn't even get a cup of tea, just some longlife milk perhaps.
Once we had located the property which was not easy, the keys were easy to find. The property is up a steep hill and although only 10 minutes down to the village was quite an effort back up. If you have any health issues this might be an issue.
