Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe staff in the restaurant were unwelcoming and unhelpful. They had to be cajoled by the hotel manager into providing food for our evening meal even though we had booked a table. That made us feel like second class citizens even though we were resident guests with nowhere else to eat that evening. Luckily the manager sorted out the situation for us.
Lovely location and pretty riverside gardens

United KingdomWe were asked to prove out green credentials by not having our room cleaned! I don't mind not having my sheets or towels changed but I would like someone to make the bed, clean the bathroom and replenish tea and coffee.
Great location and convenient for visiting. Restaurant food was good.

United KingdomIt was a little awkward to carry luggage to the room, as there are no lifts but lots of corridors and fire doors. However, this is inevitable in a hotel of this age and is part of its charm.
Location and views. Staff were generally pleasant and helpful, some very much so. Rooms were clean with good views and enough space, although the bathroom was slightly cramped. Food was good and plentiful.

United KingdomBreakfast buffet not always stocked up on things like eggs etc. I like a good supply of tea with my breakfast, which was difficult to get when only a small teacup and teabag were offered rather then a pot, or a reasonably sized mug, which appeared to be a perk only for a coach trip who were staying at the same time. Difficult to reserve table for dinner at a time we preferred, apparently because of said coach party. Long wait for service at dinner for the same reason. Room not attended to although sign was up, so had to find items to top up hospitality tray elsewhere.
Lovely breakfast, location next to the river second to none and absolutely spectacular. Surrounded by beautiful gardens. Lovely, warm pool and gym. Pleasant and helpful staff. Nothing too much trouble.

Fabulous location, lovely restaurant and bar. Great staff. We booked two rooms, one had been updated and was lovely even if it was a bit of a maze to get to. The second was tired and in need of an update . However because of location, staff and restaurant would definitely stay again

United KingdomMy room was below the standard of the communal areas. Paint had peeled off the radiator. Door trim and baseboards needed repair. The furniture in tge room-desk, table, wardrobe were more typical of a much cheaper hotel. And there was a large cobweb across the bathroom doorway. The radiator didn’t seem to come on either. No shower gel or shampoo, which I would expect in a hotel of it’s ambitions
The communal areas of the hotel are done up very nicely - the lounges, the bar, reception. Breakfast was good

United KingdomStandard rooms small but nice decor and furnishings. Shower only a trickle. Very poor water pressure. Warm pool and good jacuzzi but changing rooms scruffy. Need a refit. No towels in spa area. Had to go all the way to main reception where I was given towels. Evening meals both nights were excellent but breakfasts poor. Overcooked hot food on buffet. Coffee machine woefully inadequate and impossible not to burn toast.
Location superb overlooking river North Tyne. Dining room / bar area beautiful and overlooked well kept gardens then the river. Staff in bar dining room excellent.

The staff absolutely make this hotel. During my stay the reception staff and restaurant staff were so chatty, friendly and welcoming. As someone travelling alone, this makes me feel very safe. The location was also absolutely beautiful and I enjoyed sitting in the garden looking at the river.

United KingdomDecoration in room a bit tired - but it's the end of the season and there was nothing that a fresh lick of paint won't cure over the quiet season.
Beautiful location, and quiet peaceful room. Food excellent (dinner and breakfast) and very friendly, obliging staff - even lent us an OS map to help our walking! The riverside garden is beautiful - a great spot for a cuppa, and the walking in the area is good.
