Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomJohn Paul Jones pub was over priced and overated food wise . I had the crab linguini chefs special, l couldnt even find the crab the overloaded chips were abisimal with a tiny bit of cheese and onion in it . The food is very disappointing . The beer is also charged at London prices.
The apartment was lovely and clean , also Bay Filey is a lovely place situated near the beach . We have also recommended a couple of friends to book as well .

United KingdomNear the pub there isn't a pavement to walk on. Looks like parking can be an issue if you booked another cottage that was near the pub. We did see a rat near the pub that was crossing the road.
Stayed in a comfort cottage, which was a downstairs apartment on the corner (36 Oyster Way). It was very nice and had everything you needed except the sofa wasn't comfortable and there should have been a shower mat to put into the bath so as not to slip. Apart from that, we would book again. Loved the location as it was very near the beach. Loved that it was holiday houses and lodges and not caravans. There are good facilities on the site such as a pub, café, shop, arcade, swimming pool and archery to name a few. Very easy to find. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Great location near an amazing beach. Good facilities onsite and close to Filey and other places to visit. Overall a really good place for a long bank holiday weekend.

United KingdomWe felt the property could have done with a little work on it especially the bathroom the shower was not good at all & a lick of paint wouldn’t hurt… also no WiFi which we think this day and age the property should have it! Also I came to cook breakfast Sunday morning & there was no tin opener very annoying!
Location was great very peaceful

United KingdomCould be a little closer to filey itself . The pub is very expensive we don't live down south so shouldn't pay like it .and the four cats restaurant was really bad The guy there would not let me have a take away because the bay owed him over 400 pound for pizza boxes and even though he had some boxes he wasn't doing take out so it was my fault someone owes him money I guess .
Friendly reception staff and clever and unique holiday homes and apart from four cats all staff was nice and friendly.

United KingdomThe lack of pillows, soap and toilet roll. Just take your own.
Ideal location for a family stay with children or elderly relatives. A short walk to the beach and a few miles from Filey . A great bolt hole to explore Yorkshires coastal walks or just unwind.

United KingdomSome items in the apartment weren't in good working order, the washing machine and hairdryer. I did report these to reception upon checkout, along with the door handle which was loose. My parents visited us Tues 15th and we went to play boules on one of the courts onsite. My father (81 years) fell down the 4 wooden steps from the court onto the paving below. The steps are very uneven and could be in a better state of repair.
Great location, friendly staff and efficient check in/out process. Site is clean and gardens etc are generally well kept. Lovely walk to the beach. Pool is basic but good option for rainy days.

United KingdomI think it’s overpriced for what it is. The restaurant prices are quite high. The children playground could have a bit more games, not much for toddler age which is a real shame. The pool and the pool facilities need some improvement in my opinion and increasing opening times.
Lovely apartment and its a nice walk to the beach. The place has everything you are likely to need with a little shop and pharmacy on site.

United KingdomI wouldn't choose that flat in the future. It was quite difficult to park, where it was positioned. Which was difficult, unpacking with a dog in tow. There were 1 or 2 minor things wrong in the apartment. There were no egg cups or grater( I just happened to need one 😊). There was no hand-wash or washing up liquid( I'm not sure if this is standard). These were the 2 things I didn't bring with me. When I arrived, everything in the kitchen/apartment was switched on. I filled the fridge and bought 2 items for the freezer. In the morning, the freezer had defrosted. There was water in the bottom of the fridge. That's the only switch that wasn't on. Unfortunately,I had some gluten-free food,in the fridge, it was a bit soggy( which they dont sell in the shop). When I left the apartment ,I left the freezer on. I mentioned this in the office, and they made a note. Everything else was great.
The apartment was very comfortable and well equipped and nicely furnished. I slept well. It was very clean.

United Kingdommattress was a bit lumpy and there was only 3 of everything in the kitchen so we had to get our dinner guests to bring their own plates/cutlery etc. as we had other family members staying close by. Also, the internet access was abysmal! Though that could also go in the like section, there were a couple of times I needed to attend online meetings which was very difficult
a very short walk to the beach which was nice. Apartment was clean and well equipped. * I left a pair of shoes in the airing cupboard when I left and contacted staff who advised me how I could get these returned to me! Both Molly and Martha sorted this and I was very happy with the service they provided 10/10

United KingdomI think if there were menial products such as hand soap, kitchen towels, tin foil, anti bacterial wipes; this would have been easier as we had to buy them from the on site shop. This wasn’t an issue except it was a bit on the expensive side! The apartment we stayed in was on the ground floor and next to the main doorway so it was very loud when other guests were slamming the door especially late at night.
We liked that it was self catering as we prefer to cook for ourselves and allergies mean that I feel awkward with having to mention my allergies to someone. The location was perfect, we were 15 minutes walk from the beach and 10 minutes by car to Filey.

United KingdomI was very disappointed that there was no entertainment. We were told they are trialling a singer next Saturday. I would like bingo, karaoke and music. Food overpriced and nothing special and not enough parking. Is a lovely site but spoilt by lack of entertainment. Drinks a bit pricey. Edges of grass were not trimmed. Arcade small and had to wait ages for any issues for someone to come from the bar. Some of the stock in the shop was dirty and dusty. If you would like to invite me back with the issues resolved I would love it.
A lovely clean environment just like a little village. Staff very friendly surroundings lovely. Accommodation was brilliant and lovely and cosy.

United KingdomThe cleanliness could have been slightly better on arrival. For example, there were crumbs on the dining table still (which should have been wiped as a basic requirement) and there were marks on the kitchen cupboards. Whilst these cleaned easily with antibacterial wipes, I shouldn't have to do this on arrival.
The house we had at The Bay was very homely and decorated in a modern, beach hut style. We had access to a quiet grassy area outside (which was ideal for the dog and an evening drink in the sunshine). The shower was brilliant, the kitchen was well equipped and the beds were really comfy. We had free WiFi access and the staff were really friendly at guest services. I would stay again.

United KingdomAt the time of booking, if you are a clean freak like I am, there is an option for a no pets cottage- I wish I’d seen this prior to booking! Don’t let it deter you, the cottages are lovely!
The cottage village. Lovely and modern! Had everything you need location wise. Easy to get to different places but also remote at the same time stunning place- definitely will go back
