Nobody warned us that the pub closed early and we had to locate our room in the dark when we got back at 22.20.

Nothing, I would highly recommend The Crab and Boar. An observation would only be the occasional traffic noise from the road immediately next to the property but it did not spoil our stay

Staff and Manager were all lovely. They were very hospitable and very welcoming, We had an evening meal from the weekday menu and an inclusive breakfast. The food was freshly cooked and very tasty. The bedroom was exactly as shown on the website.

the kitchen closed early the day we stayed, so we couldn't eat there

The room was nice, good size. However needs some TLC. Paint flaking off walls, windows are old & don’t shut well. Furniture not moved when cleaning, behind bed was filthy with dust & under furniture not cleaned.

Really liked the location of the property & the food was great, if not a little pricey.

Previous reviews mentioned the road noise and on the warm day the window needed to be open so the car noise was very obvious. When the secondary glazing was used it did help but lack of fresh air then. Breakfast was impressive on the menu but was a bit too clever - simple ingredients for cereal/muesli/fruit/yoghurt should be available to order in any combination - lack of choice and all too sweet. One was at the whim of the chef apparently as to what was available. Cooked breakfast was good

Warm welcome from the 2 staff members when we arrived. shown to our room and on request provided with more bottled water, fresh milk, and good tea bags to make afternoon tea. Room large with wonderful views over the countryside. The bed very comfortable. slight lack of furniture - found a suitcase carrier in the cupboard - should be out to use immediately, no dressing table which would be useful. Bathroom large and spacious. Dinner was excellent - lovely table in the window - service by Elouise was friendly and very efficient, the food delicious. Good choice of non alcholic drinks (beers) which we appreciated.

Some front facing bedrooms have traffic noise from the nearby road

Staff were helpful,attentive and tolerant of our two small dogs. When we discovered a leaking pipe in our room the problem was dealt with promptly and sympathetically

There were lights in the room that couldn't be turned out which affected my sleep. The price for beer and food in the restaurant was very expensive.

The location is a nice countryside place. The room was a decent size with good bathroom.

Obviously an old building that in areas inside and out needs quite a bit of tlc. Breakfast menu good but would maybe benefit from having a bit of a buffet selection for cereals, drinks etc for guests to help themselves before having their chosen cooked food. Am sure this would benefit the staff too reducing their time serving.

Great location. Stayed in feature signature room after visit to Newbury races. Lovely spacious room with large bathroom, large comfortable bed and great views across the surrounding country side. Food was good and dining area again very spacious with tables not being crowded together as is often the case. Staff very attentive, friendly and polite. Although not used on our visit the outside area looked nice. Would definitely revisit.

Good breakfast, the fact that we could stay out late and still get to our room when the pub was closed. We attended a wedding evening and were out til 12.

Room next to the road. Motorcycle went past late in the night at speed. My adrenalin was pumping because of the noise so couldn’t go back to sleep.
