Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

We had such a great stay at The Traveller’s Rest! From the moment we walked in, the staff were super friendly and welcoming. You could tell they actually enjoyed being there, which made the whole atmosphere feel really positive. They were also more than happy to make small adjustments to ensure our stay was just right—for example, they gladly swapped ham for bacon on a breakfast dish without hesitation. Big thanks to the whole team—you made our visit extra special! The location is spot on, especially if you’re into hiking. Gorgeous surroundings and a peaceful setting—it really doesn’t get much better. Absolute chef’s kiss!

United KingdomOnly a couple of very minor things! Rooms face out over the main road, so just be aware that there will be some noise from vehicles if you want the window open. Also the blind didn't go all the way down to the windowsill so there was some light coming in at night.
Small but comfortable room, nicely decorated and very clean. Lovely big shower! Delicious food, exceptional and friendly staff who made our stay as comfortable as possible. The breakfast is well worth it, they provide packed lunches if you need, and dinner was so tasty we ate there multiple times! It's in an ideal location - a 15 min walk from Grasmere with great walks starting right on your doorstep.

United KingdomGreat location, close to the fells. I stayed on two occasions and ended up in the same room, which was a nice size room with a great view of Stone Arthur. Staff very friendly and helpful.. highly recommend. Modern rooms, yet old charming interior downstairs in the bar area. A nice building and a great place to stay if you're visiting Grasmere.

United KingdomThe stairs were a bit steep, but not insurmountable.
The staff were friendly and professional, and nothing was too much trouble. Everyone made a fuss of our dog, Pippa, which was nice for her. Our room was clean and tidy, and amenities acceptable. The bed was comfortable, and the shower was serviceable. The food was superb, and breakfast was tasty and well cooked and served. We will be returning to the Travellers Rest again.

United KingdomThe generator is a little noisy, however isn’t on during the night. The bed is very comfortable but squeaked a little. The hairdryer is useless, bring your own.
Love the building, the staff are lovely and friendly, the food is absolutely gorgeous. We stayed in room 8 which is clean, cozy, dog friendly, and has a view of the hills at the back of the property. Breakfast is served between 8:15 and 9:30, you can help yourself to cereal, toast, yoghurt etc, and there’s a variety of cooked options to choose from. The property is situated on a main road, with a substantial car park, a bus stop 1 minute away, and it’s a short walk into Grasmere. There’s a beer garden to the right, we sat with our morning coffee on the benches at the front of the property.

United KingdomIt is best if you choose to stay here to go to bed by 11pm & awaken by 7.30am, as the sound of local traffic can cause some a disruption to sleep, but between these times the noise reduces considerably & a restful night's sleep is guaranteed. My room was proficient for the length of time I stayed & was very comfortable & extremely comfortable & very clean. The bathroom was a little cramped but functional, but be mindful when taking a shower as the screen is designed for a larger shower unit & often the power of the water pressure would cause the water to spray the bathroom floor, maybe a shower mat or slip mat would be advisory. I enjoyed both nights eating in the restaurant & found the food to be delightful & extremely tasty. The bar provides plenty of local brews & spirits which I enjoyed on the settee by the environmental log fire, the staff are extremely friendly & helpful if or when you need to make choice decisions.(Please remember to tip generously) Breakfast was basic for a buffet choice, as the European pallet usually enjoys cheese & hams as well as fruits for their start in the morning, but as a national choice is very suitable for this in the UK, hot breakfast choices where more than acceptable & very filling for a days venture or walks.

The staff were lovely, and the evening meal food was great! They have a couple of fab fireplaces to sit next to, great for when it's cold outside. Parking was free next door so you didn't have to go far. The shower was also brilliant - didn't know when to get out :)
