Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Staff very friendly, room spotless and a good size with a very good view, very comfortable beds and an amazing shower. The breakfast was delicious and seemed to be all cooked fresh to order with what tasted like very good quality ingredients. The location is absolutely perfect for sightseeing, hiking, climbing, watersports as all this can be accessed easily. It's even on a bus route.

United KingdomNothing.
It’s well located just outside Grasmere, from the moment we arrived the staff were friendly, helpful and charming. Our room was excellent and spotless and our evening meals were also superb as was breakfast. It’s also very attractive inside now, it’s obviously had a face lift since our last visit and much improved but the staff stand out especially for praise. Thank you.

United KingdomNothing at all ! It is a perfect little getaway place & there's not one thing I would change ! Perfect !!!
Everything was just perfect ! The room was lovely & the shower was the best we've used on a short break ! The TV was excellent as were the tea and coffee making facilities but the bed ? Wow so comfortable & the room temperature was just right ! Wi-Fi too was excellent so we were mega impressed ! The food was beautiful & plentiful & honestly I could have cried at how good the rice pudding was ! Just like my Grans from when I was a little boy ! Last but not least the staff were all incredibly nice & so kind & efficient ! I was actually quite taken away by how perfect our 1 night stay was & we will most certainly be back As will our little dog Bear who was made to feel so welcome & he got so much fuss ! Heartily recommend people to stay here the car park is big & it's a lovely walk from the inn into Grasmere ! One of the best places I have stayed in for a little break ! Wonderful wonderful place we all loved it !

United KingdomThere isn’t really anything If I wanted to be picky is the standard rooms you can only use with a dog, I would have preferred a bigger room. And no glasses for a drink of water.
It’s our second visit. We really enjoyed it the last time we went. It’s in a great location with amazing views. The food is excellent and the staff can’t do enough for you.

United KingdomNo major complaints at all - just a few tweaks would have made it perfect! Traffic noise was disruptive at times - during the night it was lovely and peaceful and we had no issues sleeping at all, but first thing in the morning we were very aware of the busy road outside. No water glasses provided in our room - this would have been a nice touch. Not many places to hang wet towels in the room - could have benefitted from a couple of door hooks, maybe. Bar prices (especially for spirits) were definitely on the higher side. Vegetarian breakfast (additional cost) was slightly disappointing as it featured a very 'old school' veggie sausage (peas and carrots inside - not ideal for first thing in the morning!) A switch to Quorn or something similar I think would be favoured by my fellow veggies. Scrambled eggs were quite underdone - I know this is a personal preference for some, though! There was a bit of a mix-up with breakfast payment - we were given the option to pre-pay this the night before, but then we received a phone call after we'd checked out saying we needed to settle the bill! This was solved with a quick phone call, though.
We spent a lovely long weekend at The Traveller's Rest. The staff were so welcoming, attentive and friendly and went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as it could be. Our room was great - very comfortable bed and amazing shower. We had a lovely dinner on our first night (menu was varied and had a few veggie options) and the pub area was cosy and welcoming each evening when returning back from a hard day's walking in the local area. Whilst situated slightly outside of the centre of Grasmere, it was around a 10-minute walk in and there were regular buses heading into Grasmere, Ambleside, Keswick etc. with a stop right next to the pub. Views from our room were beautiful - mountains, hills and sheep! Wouldn't hesitate to return and would recommend to others looking for reasonably priced accommodation in Grasmere.

United KingdomTo be expected with an old building, but the shower is a challenge for tall people as the ceilings are low and slanted. But again just an fyi as its to be expected.
We booked the travellers rest for the 2nd night of our stay for valentines. The location was gorgeous, surrounded by views. The hotel itself is cosy and full of charm inside and all the team who we encountered were super friendly. If you have a fur baby with you, this is an amazing choice. The bar and section section of the restaurant are dog friendly. As for the food, I cannot recommend enough.
