Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The best hostel I stayed in Guatemala, hands down. Beds were good, there were only three beds in our room, everything was clean and looked new. There is also a locker for your luggage. San Juan is very small and the location was perfect, right on the main street.

GuatemalaThe bathroom was tiny. A bit uncomfortable, not to mention that there's only one for all rooms. There weren't major jams, but I could see it was an issue.
The place was clean, nicely furnished, and equipped. Water filter, fan, towels, and some nice common areas to read and meet other travelers. It is also well located, a block from the church and nearby convenience stores.

AustraliaThe top bunk bed really needs a rail for safety. A light next to the bed would be nice. It’s not very big and no activities so can be hard to meet people if the few others there aren’t social
Loved my stay at Chirris hostel in San Juan. I love that it is women-owned and run and employees are women. It was incredibly clean. The beds were comfy, safe lockers, the kitchen was fully equipped for cooking and the main street is next door so is the market. San Juan is much prettier than San Pedro and much more local it also is quiet agree 5pm do don’t expect parties or late meals out. There are also a lot of stray dogs at night and they bark so earplugs are necessary. But I would definitely stay again.

United StatesI enjoyed the cleanliness of the place overall. The women who take care of the property were courteous, respectful, and welcoming. Also, it is in a great location, just a few minutes away from the public boats and is surrounded by so much culture and beauty.

GermanyNice and clean Private Room and bathroom. Kitchen was small but good equipped. Bathroom was clean as well. Location was perfect, close to the water and shops. San Juan is nicer and more chill than the backpacker place San Pedro, but still close enough to visit during the day :) Staff was very kind.

United KingdomIt is on a road and on the Saturday night there was a big party somewhere that kept me awake-although granted not the fault of the hostel! Ear plugs essential.
Lovely small hostel in the heart of San Juan. Andrea and Marta were helpful and friendly and the spaces were always clean. Nice area to chill and meet people by the kitchen. The dorm is actually a 3 bed not a 4 bed and very comfortable.

United KingdomOnly 1 toilet and shower for the whole place but it was never an issue when I was there. Staff aren’t on site 24hours so although you have keys for access, if you need them for something else, you have to message someone or wait til the following morning to speak to someone. Both minor points though.
Friendly and helpful staff advised on things to do & transport options. The place is quite small with limited guests, but cosy and has nice communal areas to relax and hang out. A small and basic but functional kitchen means you can cook meals if you don’t want to eat out. Dorms have blankets or fans depending on temperature. Plenty of sockets to charge things and a big locker to store stuff.

CanadaThe room was kinda hot at night but they brought us a fan on my second night. There’s only one toilet/shower for people staying in the dorm and some of the private’s which is ok but not ideal. The shower is fine but is kinda dark and cramped.
Really great small hostel, very relaxing and good wifi. Perfect if you’re looking for a peaceful spot to rest after exploring all day. Excellent location. Great and helpful staff. I thought the books on the coffee table out front were very interesting. The kitchen is really good and there’s a nice chill area with a couch.

United StatesThe noise of the streets at night, but that comes with having a nice central location and is out of the hostel’s control!
There is not enough words in the English language to describe how incredible Hotel Chirris is and how kind the staff is. My two weeks at Hotel Chirris exceeded every expectation I had. Andrea, the owner, goes above and beyond to attend to every need and had done an amazing job making Hotel Chirris feel like a home. You can feel the love, vision, and passion she has for this place. From the small details like individual hand towels to the larger details like well-equipped common spaces, Andrea has made Hotel Chirris by far the best hostel I’ve ever stayed in and I can only see it getting better as it continues to grow. (P.S. I stayed in both the dorm and the private rooms during my trip. Both are incredibly well thought out with outlets near the beds, plenty of storage, and comfortable mattresses.) On top of that, the staff— Elena, Francisca, and especially Marta— made this experience so much better. As a remote worker, I spent a lot of the weekdays working from the hostel (note: there is strong wifi). Throughout the day of working alone, I was able to chat a lot with the staff, and they really became close friends. We shared meals, jokes, and stories, and they are really what made this trip *so* special. Everyone on the Hotel Chirris team is warm, inviting, and will be missed dearly. If you’re wondering if you should stay at Hotel Chirris, the answer is 1000% yes. The hostel draws a quieter crowd who is looking to make connections and have a less touristy experience and a warm place to spend the end of their days, so if that’s what you’re looking for, Hotel Chirris is for you. Muchas gracias a todo el equipo de Chirris— nunca te olvidaré y mi experience en San Juan.
