Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe house is simple, but it has everything you need. The avocados that fall on the roof of the house and make a lot of noise were a bit annoying.
We had the whole house and a private area to ourselves. The best thing about this accommodation is the host Jonathan, the classes that are offered and the community. Besides classical yoga classes, there were many unique movement, dance and acrobatic classes that we really enjoyed.

Jonathan and the vibes. Jonathan gave great recommendations and our stay wouldn’t have been the same without him. He knows the town inside and out and has excellent recommendations.

CanadaIt was hard to find when I arrived at night. If the name of the accommodation was at the door, I would have seen it easier. But as I mentioned, it was in a great location. I wanted to stay a little bit after check out to see a bit more of San Marcos but they don't have a storage for guests' luggage and also they don't have a reception so I just left Lake Atitlan early than I would have wanted.
Very well organized kitchen space for everyone staying. Filtered water, toilet paper, towel, clothes hangers, and piece of apple are appreciated! The place is well maintained and cleaned everyday. Location is in a great location — walking distance to everywhere and is in a quiet street.

El SalvadorThe cleaning or at least emptying of the bins especially in the bathroom needs to be more regular.
The location could not better just a few minutes walk from the main street and less than a minutes walk to the shore and perfect clean swimming spot. The hosts were super friendly, warm and welcoming, you really feel the community spirit but all very respectful and calm. We loved the cosy but fresh rooms, lovely deco and extra homely touches

IrelandThis is a hidden gem, beautiful room, great community vibes, I felt so welcomed and included as soon as I arrived. There are a great range of fitness classes on once or twice a day that you can join, and as a resident, you get a huge discount. I had my own room, very comfortable, little welcome gestures of fruit, water were great. Overall I would highly recommend staying here, the location is perfect, just off the main street, but it's peaceful at night, you can join in with as much or as little.as you like, great kitchen, relaxing hammocks to chill in and only a few steps away from the beautiful lake. All staff were friendly, helpful, and on hand if you needed anything at all. Thank you all, I will be back to visit x

NetherlandsThe hygiene could be better, although the sweet house keeping is very lovely and working the best she can. It is mostly the other people in the cabins who are not always taking care of keeping things clean. The pots and pans in the kitchen and the cuttery needs improvement, it is all very old and not good anymore. When I left Jonathan was taking care of some things in the kitchen so I am sure things will improve. Advice would be to keep an eye on the little things that keep laying around which makes things messy.
Beautiful place near to the lake and close to hippie highway, with a nice private garden and not to many people at the location so this makes it feel pretty quiet. Jonathan took some feedback really serious and is working on making everything close to perfect. Don't expect luxery, Unicorn Reborn has a relaxed vibe and perfect for when you are happy with all the basics you need. I was really happy to have a private room, which for me was big enough for a 3 weeks.

United States- Jonathan the owner was disrespectful and defensive - Stained towels (photo) - Stained walls (photo) - Broken items in the room (photo) - Inaccurate description of the room and amenities (photo) - Not so clean bathrooms >> Back story. This place was recommended to me by a friend of a friend. When I looked at the room description it says “this double’s room standout is the sauna”. Also says “garden views”. When I got there, I was surprised to first see that there wasn’t a sauna for the room, but one sauna for everyone and they told me they only run it on Tuesdays. That information wasn’t in the description. I also thought the room looked way darker than the photos. The whole property really liked way better in the photos, all photos are highly edited. The manager was doing the check in. I told her about my concern that the room wasn’t what I had booked. She also asked me to send them the photo of the saying the room had a sauna, so I did. The owner came in. I heard them talk. They called me in. Immediately I could tell he was annoyed and not authentic. I tried to explain the sauna situation but he cut me and told me that I did not have to pull my phone and we could just talk directly, in a pretty aggressive tone. I felt unsafe. My eyes started to tear up. I told them I was feeling unsafe and uncomfortable. I told them I was exhausted by 24h of traveling and did not want to feel welcomed that way by my host. He said he was having roof issues and that’s why he was upset. I told him the roof issues weren’t my fault and I wasn’t here to be his punching ball. He said to me that the fact I was tired from traveling wasn’t his fault. I find this to be really wrong coming from a hospitality owner. You’re supposed to take care of your clients, not blame them and gash light them. He said that the sauna description thing was Booking.com’s fault and he could not change it.
- Taina the manager was really sweet, available and understanding. - Location. It’s in the center and close to everything.

United StatesThough no fault of the guesthouse, dogs in San Marcos bark all night long. The bed is very comfortable, so sleep quality is good if you wear ear plugs, use a fan, or use a white noise app.
The Aguacate Bungalow felt like home after just a few days. This fabulous place, nestled in the heart of San Marcos, is a peaceful retreat with all the comforts of home. In addition to a fully equipped kitchen, there is a nice, private outdoor space. The bed is very comfortable, and the space is cozy.

United StatesVery very basic. No new or clean bedsheets. The toilets and shower very far from the room. Dirty and untidy but so overpriced for what it was. The pictures did not give the right idea of the situation.
The property is way over priced for what it is. I don’t think there is anything worth the price apart from The location. The toilets were always dirty and my room was cleaned one day out of the two days I stayed there. The bedsheets were not changed before I arrived judging from the smell. The shower closest to my cabana was cold water and no light was there. When mentioned to the owner, he claimed that he didn’t know that was the case. I went back home with my legs full of bed bites.

United StatesWe recently stayed at casa limon, and while I appreciated the privacy it offered, my experience was marred by numerous issues that made it far from enjoyable. First off, the noise level was surprisingly disruptive. What should have been a quiet retreat turned into a cacophony that made it difficult to relax. The condition of the property was alarming. Termite dust and signs of infestation were everywhere, which not only raised concerns about hygiene but also made the entire place feel neglected. Honestly, the house is in such disrepair that it should be condemned and torn down. See photo for just one example of termite dust. The shower was another significant letdown. The owner attributed the lack of hot water and pressure to the town's infrastructure, but we discovered that even the cheapest hospital nearby had great water pressure and hot water. My friend didn’t shower during our entire stay because the water was tepid at best, and the pressure was practically nonexistent. Additionally, the steep stairs leading up to the accommodations were hazardous without a handrail. This poses a serious risk, especially for anyone with mobility issues. While the owner tried to project friendliness, it felt insincere. He prioritized a spiritual ceremony over checking us in, which felt disrespectful given the amount of money we had paid. Furthermore, he constantly pushed for a five-star review, explaining why he believed he deserved it, despite the glaring issues with the property. Lastly, the photos online are a misleading representation of the house. They appear to be heavily edited, as the reality was far less appealing and much more rundown than depicted. The windows can't open and there is no airflow in the whole house. In conclusion, I cannot recommend this property. It needs significant renovations and better management. I suggest looking elsewhere for a more enjoyable and honest experience.
