How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

A great budget-friendly option! The room was simple but had AC and was very clean. The shared bathroom had hot water and was always well-maintained. The location is not far from restaurants and cafes, and Fauzan helped us arrange a transfer to Surabaya after our stay. Everything was easy and stress-free!

Great value for money! We booked a twin room with a fan, and it was simple but comfortable. Ara was very welcoming and gave us lots of good tips for food and transport. It’s in a quiet neighborhood, but only a short walk to cafes and restaurants. Also, they sent us recommendations via WhatsApp after check-in, which was super helpful.

This hostel is insane. By far the nicest hostel I’ve ever been in. The beds are huge. You have so much space for your bags and can basically unpack without intruding on anyone else’s space. They’re very comfortable too.

After travelling for more than 3 months we can say: Zzz (Ijen and Malang) is the best place to stay in all Indonesia!! The place is super clean, beds are comfy, beautifully decorated and with great area to hang out. Staff is absolutelly perfect, give all the tips, organize tours and are great people to spend time and talk <3 I got sick and they did everything they could for me. Thank you so much!!

Nothing really. If I had to pick something, I would say there is nothing to do/see in the immediate area.
There were many places to hang out and meet people. The staff were lovely and the Tour was an amazing experience. Within 15 mins drive to Train station.

This property was lovely. Amazing location, 10 min walk to the main strip of Banyuwangi, but a bit peaceful. No air con but powerful fan that made me very comfortable, even in the hot wet season! My room was dark but that made it nice and cool and easy to sleep! Perfect. Great wifi. Lovely to pet some cats and to enjoy a cup of Indonesian coffee every morning.

Very welcoming and accommodating staff. (We had issues with the boat and arrived in the night, hours after the check in closure and she came back to receive us.) The location is great, in a "calmer" side-street, minutes away from the pulsing hearth of Banyuwangi. With loads of very good restaurants and shops nearby. Very nice garden as well.

Comfortable bed, clean room, kind and friendly stuff. When you enter the room, you can feel the fresh vibe immediately. They are an amazing, kind, helpful, pure-hearted person. We talked a little bit about Javanese culture and they shared interesting stories. The location is also great, in the Banyuwangi center and a 10-minute to Train Station. The room was cool, I used a blanket :) Thank you for everything 🌞

Had a fantastic stay at Zzz Ijen Banyuwangi! The room was spotless and very comfortable, and the staff were exceptionally helpful. I joined the Ijen tour, which was well-organised and truly unforgettable. I also took their shuttle to Bali, and the whole process was seamless. Booking was straightforward, and everything ran on time without any hassle. A brilliant service and highly recommended!
