How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Booked a 7 people dorm and was in a 8 people dorm. Bathroom was not very clean, could be better. My bed was 1m next to my neighbour and very far away from AC, it was very hot at night and needed to hide under my blanket for a the smallest privacy. That was a huge bad point for me, I have no problem sleeping in dorms but it seemed like a twin room with an unknown person.
Big space and well located!

It was very noisy. The 4-female bedroom is right next to the pool/common area/kitchen and it's very noisy. Also you don't have curtains so the privacy was very little.
The swimming pool was good. The breakfast pancakes were nice and you could get as many as you like. The staff was friendly.

Ignorance of most (younger) guests to cleaning up after finish their meal or party. . Common kitchen is a bit too dirty. No good wifi on the upper floor
Good place to connect with other travelers. Good location. Worth for the money. Ideal for young Backpackers. Very kind staff.

Not much privacy, no curtains and rooms were hot. Cold showers only and wifi a bit slow. You get what you pay for, but it's great value.
Social, great pool and great value for money. Has a kitchen, free water and great banana pancakes for breakfast!

I left early because I didn't matched Kuta vibe, the staff was nice and offered a refund for the nights that I cancelled. It was overall a good stay, bathroom a bit dirty, but as usual when you have a lot of people. It was supposed to be a 6 beds dorms, ended up being a 7 beds dorm. My bed was on the first floor and too far away from the ac to be able to sleep in good conditions. Kind of a noisy place as well, but it goes well with earplugs :) Good value for money

My first bed had bed bugs I was bitten all over so moved to another bed and let the staff know. They changed the bedding but then put someone else was put in the bed with bed bugs. I’m allergic to pancakes and there was no alternative for breakfast. Fridge was really dirty and smelly. The water refill station was warm water.
Relaxing pool area and the rooms and bathrooms cleaned daily. Hot water in the showers. Staff were friendly.

Wasn’t that clean. The kitchen bin wasn’t changed in the 4 days I was there so it attracted a ton of flies. The hangout area is good but worn out, old and not clean.

Bathrooms weren't the best: cold showers with low pressure, no toiletries, no hairdryer Wifi was bad in the dorm and kept disconnecting Could be cleaner A bit of a shame as I'd heard Botchan was great - still a good place overall for the price though

There's no curtains for the dormitory beds. I think it's just me who didn't feel comfortable with it.
Nice staff, free breakfast and very social. There's also a billiards table that you can play with the other guests.

The beds, they werent that comfortable.
The location is near to the main street and restaurants. Also the comun area is really cozzy and comfortable to be there and just chill.

the water from the shower and taps was very dirty so we couldn’t shower here for a couple of days.
really nice place to chill out for a couple of days, nice pool and breakfast included which was great.

Our room was really noisy due to bad insulation, the mosque nearby and endless dog fights at night, so we had trouble getting sleep.
Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and there is a great social crowd. The pool and garden area is beautiful, there is a common kitchen and a pool table. The private rooms are spacious and got everything you need.

Water pressure in the bathroom was low
Botchan Hostel is a super nice option to stay in Kuta :) The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable, there was even hot water to shower. Breakfast is included and delicious. The staff can organize any trip for surfing, Rijani, snorkeling and transportation. You can rent scooters cheaply. Center or beach is ca 25 min footwalk or 5min scooter away. Hostel vibe was amazing, pool and surrounding plants are super nice and relaxing.
