Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwitzerlandIn general it is also a bit noisy ( tuned scooters early in the morning etc.) - if expecting s.th different from this remote place. We had a lot of trouble with the communication before and until arriving at the lodge. Especially around the transfer. The road was not a problem for us, but all this confusion about this pickup point, even in connection with the events. The events we booked ( market&cooking and snorkel) were unprofessional and lousy organized. Especially the beach/village next to the hotel is very messy and dirty (choosen for snorkel). Amed beach is still worse, but might be the better choice. And without events it did get a bit boring after 2 days up there in the mountain…
We booked a private pool lodge (No. 10) which was very nice, near by the restaurant. It has a great view down to the ocean, but has still a lot of privacy. We also liked the restaurant and the food, especially the breakfast. The staff was great, all very service minded and friendly. This part was 10 of 10.

The rooms and its attached outside are are just stunning! Super spacious and luxurious — it is so good that it makes you not want to leave (which you can because of their room service). The pool area is so relaxing and has the best view. Breakfast and the food in general are excellent.

United StatesIt seems that the elements have taken its tole on the Mathis. While the inside of the cottages are lovely - beautifully decorated and cozy. The outside elements are in need of repair. Also, the grounds seem to be in need of some care as well.
The staff at the Mathis was the very best part of our experience at the Mathis. They were always smiling and friendly and caring of us during our stay. The rooms were comfortable and the food was very good as well.

AustraliaThe family lodge is too small for a group of five like us, we had to share one bathroom - not pleasant, the room had all sorts of insects and animals....frogs, scorpions, spiders funny enough that really speaks of the nature
Breathtaking view and relaxing mountain hotel

BrazilThe only thing i wouldnt recommend is the fishing activity- boring and also not for kids (they should specify this).
The decor, details, food, rooms and the view were amazing. It is not the easiest place to get to, but it made our stay in Amed worth it. Price was also very good, and the staff was very helpful and nice going.

RussiaThe food is generally good, though it can be a bit heavy at times, and choice is quite limited, also the mini-bar could use a better selection of snacks. Reaching the villa might be challenging for some due to the steep climb, but the experience is absolutely worth it.
The highlight of this hotel is undoubtedly the view. It feels like stepping into a peaceful paradise, where you’re gazing at a masterpiece painted by an artist. The stunning mountains blend seamlessly with the endless blue ocean, dotted with rooftops and surrounded by serene silence—just you, the mountains, and nature. You can take in this breathtaking scenery not only from the long, pristine swimming pool but also from your private jacuzzi, your bed, or the dedicated relaxation area on your personal terrace. The opportunities for unwinding in this hotel are truly limitless. If you're looking to immerse yourself in nature and tranquility, far from the noise of cities, this is the perfect choice. We had a wonderful time disconnecting from the chaos of urban life and embracing the sense of harmony with nature and the tropical mountains.

United KingdomThe pathway to the restaurant is steep and requires careful navigation, which may not be ideal for everyone. Additionally, there is no direct road access to the lodge. Guests are transported via a buggy that runs every hour from 7:30 AM to 10:00 PM. If you’re out for dinner beyond this time, you’ll need to exercise caution. Another limitation is the absence of online taxi apps like Grab in this area. Guests must rely on local taxis, which can be expensive. Renting a scooter is highly recommended to explore the beautiful surroundings. The food was decent but left room for improvement, particularly lunch offerings. Overall Experience: Mathis Lodge is an ideal choice for nature lovers and those seeking tranquility. While there are some challenges with accessibility and dining, the stunning location, peaceful atmosphere, and lovely rooms make it a memorable stay.
Mathis Lodge is beautifully located on top of a hill, surrounded by nature, offering breathtaking views of the mountains. The lodge provides a serene and quiet environment, making it an excellent choice for a peaceful getaway. The rooms were lovely, with an open-area bath and a balcony that offered stunning views. The staff were warm and accommodating, adding to the overall charm of the place. If you love nature, this lodge is the perfect retreat.

GermanyThere were a few small inconsistencies during our stay. Insects were noticeable in the evenings, which was a bit inconvenient. The cleaning was done very quickly, and towels were not replaced unless specifically requested. These were minor issues but worth mentioning.
The service was excellent, and the rooms were beautifully designed. The food was delicious and nicely presented. The staff were very polite and friendly, making us feel welcome. The shuttle service was well-organized and flexible, which we really appreciated. Having a jacuzzi in our room was a great highlight, especially on rainy days.

United StatesFor me, the property was too remote from the rest of Amed. It took too much time to go down the rather bad roads to leave the property and then to come back.

AustraliaSpa was really average, plus we need take the shuttle bus to reach the hotel, it was around 20 minutes very rocky and steep road up and down hill. The shuttle bus only runs every hour, and this is the only way to reach and leave the hotel. So it will be a limitation to consider when u want to leave or get back to the hotel.
Great location great design , amazing view, and really peaceful vibe with very good design of the room and hotel.

GermanyThe food at the restaurant was delicious, albeit a bit more expensive than in many other Bali restaurants. Additionally, a 12% service tax and a 10% gratuity charge for the staff were added to the bill, which made dining slightly pricier compared to other places in Bali
Mathis Lodge is a wonderful place nestled in the heart of nature, perfect for a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby villages. The garden and pool are beautifully designed, offering a stunning view that is hard to match. The hotel staff were always smiling and incredibly friendly, making the stay even more enjoyable. Note: This place is surrounded by nature, with plenty of wildlife that can be noisy or curious at times. It's a perfect destination for nature and animal lovers! Overall, it’s a serene and beautifully designed lodge ideal for relaxation, with warm hospitality and excellent dining options.

South AfricaWe had an amazing stay at Mathis. The team went above and beyond to make our time as hassle free as possible from providing us with a 4am shuttle, well out of their shuttle times, for our sunrise fishing trip to organising all of our transport to Gili Meno as well as storage so that we did not have to take all of our luggage with for that leg of our holiday. The lodge itself is beyond amazing from the bungalows to the restaurant no detail is too small for this team. Thank you for making our stay so amazing.
