Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaNo internet or tv reception in room. It’s advertised as having a pool bar, but this was never staffed. Rooms are big but a bit outdated.
Nice pools, great menu for breakfast lunch and dinner. Golf cart to room if required. Great jungle views.

United StatesThe internet WiFi was horrible. Connection was very poor. We stayed here for our wedding for a couple days and trying to maintain contact with family attending was challenging. Also we tried to add photos to social media for friends and family and the WiFi being so slow presented quite a challenge. Other than that, the visit was great.
Loved the setting, location was beautiful. Rooms were adequate. Comfortable. The breakfast and room service wad excellent. The staff was very nice and very helpful when requests were made.

IndiaLittle bit of an issue with the water in the shower, toilet. Not all the staff is warm as you expect in Bali. Some of the staff needs serious training.
Property is nestled in a jungle kind of environment. Peaceful stay! We stayed in the luxury suites. I am sure independent villas must also have George ours views.

FranceThe room (furniture, walls...) looks super old, from another time. They need to renovate everything to make it more modern. I was very surprised because they market the place as a 5* hotel, but the place doesn't meet the standards of a 5* hotel to me. Jungle Retreat is different from Kupu Kupu Barong. Jungle Retreat are old buildings and Kupu Kupu Barong are private villas. There was a bad smell in the room when I came in, like mold smell. I had to open the window to have some fresh air. The pressure from the shower head is good but there isn't enough hot water to me, I had to take almost cold showers. Even when it's hot, it's not super super hot. When I checked out, I didn't pay attention, I paid the pressing bill and it's only few days after that I saw the amount of my bank account: 78 euros, approximately 1,248,000 IDR for the laundry of a single person, that uses laundry service every 10/12 days ! It's the most expensive laundry bill I had in Bali so far ! The laundry weight was not more than 5/6 kilos. Also they ironed my brand new yoga outfit and I was pissed off. The prices of their spa is way too expensive: around 1,600,000 IDR for a hot stone massage. I passed. After the check out, I realized that my yoga mat and my emergency phone battery was missing. I texted them and told them: I never lose my stuff. I am an organized person and I know where my stuff are. I told them that I had no memory of having my yoga mat in the room, even though I checked in with it. And my emergency phone battery was charging in the room and I never had to use it during the 2 nights that I stayed in this hotel. They found my yoga mat: it was in the reception lobby. They indeed forgot to bring it to my room when I checked in. For the emergency phone battery, they told me they didn't find it. I told them that I do not lose my stuff and I think that someone took it. The manager said no, I lost it. The audacity ! Until now, I can't find it.
The hotel is surrounded by nature and to me, that's its biggest asset. You can go trekking around, it's beautiful. The view from the restaurant is on the nature and that's beautiful. I appreciated the fact that the restaurant tried to find vegan solutions for me because there is no vegan options on the menu at all.

AustraliaNearly every facility listed on the website or in the hotel guidebook was either broken or no longer manned. Very misleading. No bar, no pool bar, unkept swimming pools, no steam room, no sauna, only one restaurant, not three. Food and drink was average at best. One of the people answering the phones at hotel reception didn't speak a word of English. Upon arrival, we were told there was a free cocktail per person per day, but this wasn't the case. The spa seemed overpriced compared to others in the area, we would have had a massage but decided to go elsewhere as we were worried it would be as neglected as the rest of the hotel. Thankfully we were only staying for four nights, had it been longer we would have asked for a refund and stayed in another hotel. There are plenty of hotels around for a similar price that deliver way above kupu kupu barong. It's disappointing as pre covid I'm sure it was an amazing place, but it's obviously struggling to keep up with its competitors now.
The staff were awesome, well trained, friendly and eager to help. The views of the jungle were amazing.
