Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaWhere to start. From the moment you arrive, Leia, the owner, is such an amazing host. She tells you all the right places to eat, sites to see, how to get around, and even knows the weather better than the weather radar! She will also make bookings for you, ensuring a seamless experience for your stay from a local. Another thing that blows you away on first impression is the view that you get from every inch of the property. Wow! Lush green rainforest draping the hillside below you out to the quaint little town of Lovina below and out to the spectacular calm blue ocean. We also loved the super cute and friendly cats and dogs on the property, all with their own unique little personalities, coming to greet us every time we came back through the gate. The communal eating area was fantastic, a nice long outdoor table with a cool breeze and a million-dollar view. The food cooked up by in-house chef Lilu was fantastic. Pro tip: try the Beef Rendang, a very generous portion that still left me yearning for more as it was so tasty. The room was huge and clean with everything one wants. Such a comfortable bed that I had to pull myself away from it to actually do things like swim in the pool or head down the hill to town at Lovina (a short 10 to 15 minute trip on our scooters). The bathroom was amazing too, with a nice big shower and glorious hot water. The pool is very well designed as an infinity pool to take in the view, and there are several sitting ledges and standing platforms to take in the view. We were lucky enough that Steve was also at the villa as well, and he explained the Singaporean influence of the building design, which became apparent and very well done once he mentioned it. Leia has taken great pride in her gardens, which shows and makes for a truly tranquil atmosphere when relaxing around the villa by day or night. I could not recommend a stay at Villa Mata Hari more; this is the only place I will stay from now on when visiting the north of Bali.

United Arab EmiratesI cannot describe how amazing this place is. From the moment we arrived, Lia and Steve have gone above and beyond at every opportunity to make us feel welcome, valued and at home in this beautiful property which is so well kept and in amazing condition. The views here are simply breathtaking I am convinced that no photograph could do it justice - it has to be seen to be believed and appreciated! I can honestly say this has been my most enjoyable stay at any hotel or guest house in the world. If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway then this is the place for you. The beds are so comfortable it’s hard to get out of them in the morning! The food is incredible and cooked with love and great care. The nature surrounding this place is everything you could ask for and more. The cleanliness is impeccable and the swimming pool and its views are spectacular. We feel incredibly grateful to have found this slice of heaven and are so glad to have stayed here - we enjoyed it so much we changed our flights and extended our stay!! It just feels like Lia and Steve have thought of every single little thing, to the smallest detail, that are important to their guests and have got it fully covered. We were even collected and dropped home from a wonderful local restaurant, the Secret Garden, all arranged thanks to our wonderful hosts. Their pets are absolutely gorgeous and you can easily tell by them how well cared for and loved they are and it’s easy to see the care and love that goes into each and every guest here also. Thank you Lia and Steve for everything you have done - we cannot wait to visit you again!

FinlandVilla Mata Hari is the best place for anyone who appreciates peace and quiet. The place is extremely beautiful, clean and well taken care of. The lady of the house Lia is an awesome hostess that takes care of all your needs and is great in planning daily trips around the north of the island. She makes the place feel like home. Pool is awesome! We will definately come back if we ever visit Bali again! Our favorite place on our tour around the island.

An exceptional luxury guest house in a quiet location overlooking the small coastal town of Lovina. I had a wonderful stay with Lia and her team. Lia organised my stay of 10 days from beginning to end. I loved the personal attention of her team. The smoothies are the best I had in Bali. The infinity pool is gorgeous and surrounded by a lush tropical garden.

PolandWe had the most wonderful stay at this villa in Bali! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the incredible host, Lia, who is one of the warmest and most helpful people we've ever met. She truly goes above and beyond to make you feel at home. The rooms were immaculate, furnished with such great taste that it felt cozy and luxurious all at once – more like staying at a friend’s home than a hotel. The villa is located in a peaceful neighborhood with stunning views, offering the perfect environment for relaxation. And the food? Absolutely amazing! Lia and her staff prepare delicious meals that truly elevate the experience. One of the highlights for us was the adorable animals that Lia has rescued and adopted. They are so sweet and well-behaved – they will shower you with affection if you want, but they are just as happy to leave you be if you prefer. We only stayed for three nights, but we fell in love with the whole atmosphere, including the animals. If you're considering staying here, you won't regret it. We definitely plan to return in the future as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended!

Lia and her team went out of their way to make our stay so wonderful. The villa is beautiful, super clean and the pool and gardens are absolutely beautiful. Everything is so tranquil as you’re in the hills above the town of Lovina it made for a perfect stay. Lia is super friendly and organised transport to local sights and for our onward journey and was so helpful throughout our stay. The home cooked meals are delicious too. We also really appreciated that each room has its own water filter, with fresh ice cold water on tap. A really lovely touch and great for our environment too. We had a truly delightful stay, thank you so much and would recommend this gem to everyone!

AustriaThat we could not stay longer than three nights.
We had a truly exceptional experience at Villa Mata Hari. The villa, the garden and the pool is perfectly designed and maintained and you can feel how much work and love the wonderful host, Lia, and her great staff put into this and that it is not just a hotel but a home. We were truly treated like family. Lia organised great tours for us (snorkeling with dolphins, short hikes to waterfalls) and we very much enjoyed Lia's cooking (beef rendang!) and especially our conversations with her. We loved the area, which provided us with the feeling of really experiencing Bali (sounds from hindu ceremonies and roosters included). The view from the villa over the sea is superb. Its too far to walk down to the city center or the beach, but Lia's driver got us there in no time.

AustraliaVilla Mata Hari was simply perfect. The room was beautiful, extremely clean and really comfortable. The pool and the garden were marvellous and Lia is such an amazing hostess. She was always up for a good chat and was full of helpful recommendations and tips. The rest of the staff working at the villa were also very nice, especially Nilu (I don't know if it's the correct spelling). The villa is located in a privileged spot very close to the beach, with lots of dining options available. However, you can also dine at the villa for an extra charge. Food is delicious 😋 This place is a hidden gem. We didn't want to leave and are looking forward to coming back!

PolandWe loved the garden, the view is absolute perfection. The wonderful Lia (the owner) arranged for us all the trips and transports that we needed, so it was easy to see all the places we wanted (in the north of Bali, is hard to find taxi but with Lea - everything was super easy and fun). The rooms where very clean and nice. The best part was the garden and the pool - so comfy and beautiful! and those beautiful butterflies and dragonflies! We had so much relaxed and fun time there. Lia is super nice and very welcoming and warm. We couldn’t ask for better stay :) Thank you for everything. We will definitely come back.

The view, the decor, the quality of the furniture and linens, but most especially our host Lia. She was so incredibly warm and welcoming and we learned so much about Indonesia from her. The property itself is also the best we have experienced on the island. As soon as step into the property, you can tell straight away that Lia and her husband have put a lot of time and work to ensure the property was build and furnished to the highest quality.

DenmarkThis is truly a gem! First of all, the rooms have beautiful interior, fantastic view over the ocean and are well equipped. Pool area, infinity pool and gardens are just beautiful! From the dining area there is a spectacular view of the ocean. My wife had to pintch herself upon arrival. Location is quiet and peaceful as it is located not in the town but it is very common to get a driver to take you to desired excursions or restaurants. Very happy with the food as well. There were many breakfast options (included and some for extra fee) and we did not tire of the selection over more than two weeks time. We also had lunch and dinner (extra fee) on numerous days and everything tasted very well! For a small size business the menu is quite big! It is not a restaurant but will cater for additional meals is planned. They have filters installed for water which was very important for us as we travelled with a 5 month old baby so we were relived that we did not need to buy mad quantities of bottled water, e.g. for brushing teeth. They were even kind to borrow and refill the jug of drinking water from the kitchen for us. And last but certainly not least the hosts are very nice and warm people. Lia and Steve were very involved in making our stay comfortable and easy. They helped us with suggestions for excursions, booking the drivers, massage and transport to and from the hotel. We actually extended our stay at Villa Mata Hari just because it is such a wonderful place to stay. At the end of our stay we felt like we had been staying with family and are happy to have had a chance to meet them and stay at their villa. I 100% recommend booking it as you will not be disappointed!

Villa Mata Hari is one of the nicest places we have stayed. Lia (& Steve) was the best hostess. She planned our daily activities and went out of her way to make sure I had an awesome birthday dinner and massage! She even dressed us up to go to a Full Moon Temple ceremony. We couldn’t have asked for a better hostess. She treats her guests like family. Breakfast every day was delicious and her dinners/lunches were some of the best food I had in Bali! The grounds are beautiful and each room is very private, spacious and comfortable. Best of all, they have 4 friendly pups and a cat to brighten your day. I can’t recommend Villa Mata Hari enough!
