Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IrelandBreakfast was poor, hot food greasy and tasteless, room was suffocating, no air conditioning, had to ask for fan and literally had to keep it on 24/7, not an enjoyable stay, sad to say, staff were pleasant, nice, but the hotel itself needs an upgrade in lots of ways.
Location was great, very central, every amenity very easy to locate and reach, best thing about the stay.

IrelandThere was nothing I didn’t like.
It was a lovely hotel in a great location - it was a short walk from the train station. The hotel itself was very clean. It was very warm and cosy and I got a great nights sleep.

IrelandReception a bit offhand. Bathroom bit small.
Staff at reception could be friendlier, bit of eye contact and smile would help ( apart from one lovely woman, philipina I think.) Help with room took some time until 2nd request to aforementioned lady.

IrelandIt was a birthday gift to my sister to stay in Athlone and see a show. As power didn’t work in our room we were moved to a penthouse and it was offered to move our bags for us. We had dinner in the hotel where we tried to order a second drink - didn’t get it and were charged. This was sorted eventually. When we arrived back to hotel at midnight our bags were not in the room and apparently lost. The night porter said he would find them and bring them to us. 20 mins later the poor man arrived at our door saying he couldn’t find them. We explained that we couldn’t go to bed with out them as we had no PJs etc. more time passed and finally they were found in a different bed room. We then noticed that we had no towels on the bathroom and the following morning called reception to explain we had no towels. We were provided with a hand towel until I brought the housekeeping lady in to show her we had nothing. That was rectified. Overall for the price of one night in the hotel it was not very relaxing. There was a vibe of haphazardness amongst the staff in general although we were greeted with a smile in all occasions
Location was great and it’s a lovely hotel

IrelandThe bacon could have been crispier!
Fabulous, spacious room with river view and the bonus of a bath! Clean and bright, with a large comfortable bed and all usual facilitations, plus the bonus of a coffee machine. Super quiet, allowing a good night's sleep. Staff were friendly, cheerful and helpful. The location was 5 mins from the train centre and similar from shops, castle, etc. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Bar and restaurant on site. A really excellent venue.

United KingdomI had a major problem trying to book at taxi for 5:15 a.m. Monday 11th November. I had requested this about 11a.m. Sunday 10th November. I was informed of the difficulty at 930 p.m. that night. I was astonished, and was assured they would keep trying...I needed that taxi as I was travelling back to the U.K. via CityLink Bus to Dublin Airport. A frantic phone call was made to my friend that evening, and her 80+ mother was dragged out of bed to take me to Smyths Toy Centre the next day. I rang reception after the conversation and as it was not answered (I could hear it being transferred), I put a coat over my dressing gown and went down to reception. A second receptionist appeared from behind, I was told it was difficult to get a taxi on a Monday morning...neither receptionist was in any way sympathetic. I questioned when the phone call for a taxi was made, and apparently it started about 3p.m. I have been a hotel receptionist and I know this is roughly the pass over time. It was evident, no effort was made to contact my room until that time, what was I supposed to do? My suggestion is that if a taxi cannot be guaranteed, guests should be informed at the time. I was the only person leaving that hotel at that time. If taxi drivers cannot be relied on then advice should be given. Do all guests have their own transport? I hardly slept that night, and had a long day of travel ahead. This is the second time I have used your hotel, I'm not sure of another stay. The Breakfast Manageress was lovely, couldn't be more accommodating. May be the hotel needs a refurbishment, but the room was fine, very roomy, but a little tired in places. Catherine Ballard

Reception staff very nice ...but unfortunately the lady we went to, I couldn't understand her english and I didn't want to ask her to repeat herself as her tone was already unwelcoming & aggressive... after we checked in we went to very friendly girl Daria for clarification on everything....
