Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The rusty mackerel is full of character a real gem set in a beautiful area ,the staff are amazing ,the rooms are modern and up to date and very comfortable,we arrived late because of sat nav problems earlier in our journey and when we got there the kitchen had shut ,but the staff reopened for us and cooked us the most Fabulous meal ,the staff really go over and beyond to make your stay comfortable, and i would definitely return and recommend it to anyone who is thinking of visiting ireland ,we had seen many rainbows during our stay in ireland and had joked about finding a pot of gold at the end of them ,but we found our own little pot of gold by staying at the rusty mackerel .

IsraelThe room was too small, very small wardrobe, no place to dry up clothes.
Very good bar and restaurant. We came very late, and kitchen was closed but they organized some dinner for us any way. The breakfast was good and tasty. People are really friendly and helpful. Very close to Sleave League what was very important to us.

United KingdomStaff were welcoming and very friendly. Setting is extremely atmospheric and food is excellent. Traditional music was an added bonus. Rooms were noted to be sound proofed, however we were able to hear people in the next rooms during the night but only going to bed. This did not take away from the experience as The Rusty Mackeral was thoroughly enjoyable to stay in, in a beautiful part of the country where the staff most certainly lived up to Irish hospitality at its best.

United StatesThe only down side, the single room I had came with a bunk bed with not a lot of head room.
I chose the Rusty Mackerel because it's so close to the cliffs of Slieve League. I also found that the pub restaurant was a great spot to eat and listen to music. The rooms are in an area just behind the pub and are quiet though not with a real view. I was in a fairly good size single room which had an excellent up to date bathroom, great Wifi -- and which gave the resident control over the heating -- something I never saw in any of the other 10 spots I stayed at in Ireland. The breakfast choices were great, and made to order (an extra charge). The pub is popular in the area and award winning. And given how far you are from the more populated centers, that's all to the good. The staff tend to be busy as a result but are all quite friendly.

GermanyNot really a minus point, but rooms are small, functional and without a window. But this is known from the room info on the point you book the place. The Rusty Mackerel is about to feel the pub life, music and atmosphere. This is why we were here!
Perfect location to explore the Slieve League area! Only 5-10 minutes minutes drive away from the harbor to do a boat tour or to the parking lot to walk to the viewpoints (or hiking any further). Nice pub and bar, loved the atmosphere! Room was small but clean and functional. The food was really good and really exceptional if you expect the usual pub food quality. Also good breakfast! Would recommend this place if you want to go for the Slieve Leagues!

United KingdomDisappointed there was no live music despite the advertisement saying there was music 7 nights per week. Wwe understand this is difficult to sustain off-peak but would possibly have altered dates had we known. Bedroom was a little bit claustrophobic as there was no window.
Staff were super friendly and helpful on every level. Food was exceptional quality for a gastronomic pub.
