Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BelgiumThe rooms were clean but rather basic. Not the ‘luxury rooms’ we had envisioned when booking.

United KingdomWhile we loved our stay, there were a few small practical issues (doors didn’t close properly, windows couldn’t be secured, power supply was disrupted so AC cut out for a short while both nights we were there).
Incredible location just a couple of minutes from the buzzing North Cliff. Anita was the absolute friendliest and most helpful hotel manager and gave us some great recommendations for where to go and how to get around. Room was basic but clean and comfortable.

SwedenTwo single beds put together is not ideal for a couple.
The location and the complimentary breakfast really made our stay wonderful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The facilities were very simple, but not much more is needed when you have this paradise beach right out the door.

United KingdomThe hotel’s yoga teacher has left, so there is currently no yoga which is a shame, although it’s easy to find and join classes around Varkala.
Lovely retreat a few steps from the cliff in Varkala. The staff were very helpful even though we arrived late. The rooms are spacious and very clean, with big bathrooms, and there’s plenty of shady hangout areas around the hotel. We loved the included breakfast at the cafe next door.

United StatesThey will ask you to pay for the whole accommodation up front (which is fine) but I had a very hard time getting confirmation of payment. I had to follow up for weeks before I got a response. Once we arrived at the property, everything was fine.
Location is the best part of staying here. You are right on the beautiful cliff and beach. The breakfast at the restaurant next door is also very nice. Yoga on the top deck of the building (for an extra charge) was also appreciated.

India"Perfectly Located Varkala Homestay with Relaxing Vibes and Morning Yoga Bliss!" I recently stayed at this amazing homestay right on the main street of Varkala, as soon as you step out, you're right at the vibrant and lively North Cliff, with all the bustling energy of this beautiful coastal town. The location is perfect, easily reachable by car, though do check ahead to see if parking is available, as they can only accommodate a few cars. The property is conveniently located next to a popular In Da cafe, making it easy to grab a coffee or enjoy a delicious meal whenever you like. One of the highlights for me was the morning yoga sessions. These classes are the perfect way to start your day, and if you're looking for something more personalized, you can even request a private session. The rooms are spacious, immaculately clean, and come with a lovely balcony where you can relax. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, with a chilled-out crowd that makes the place feel both welcoming and safe. I also appreciated the thoughtful amenities, like the common area with a kettle, sugar, and green tea, which guests have full access to throughout their stay. Overall, this homestay is offering a perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and a touch of the local vibe. Highly recommended!

United KingdomThere wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
The location was great for us, so close to everything but still felt secluded. The people that run it are lovely and really responsive. The cafe connected and breakfast was amazing . We had a room with a balcony and loved the shaded areas to relax in. Loved doing yoga in the rooftop.

AustraliaIt was a bit tricky to find the property (especially since we were self-driving) but when we did it was easy to park the car and get everywhere on foot or tuk tuk. It was a shame that we couldn’t do yoga because it was the low season so wasn’t running.
Great location! And super friendly, and helpful staff! We loved our little room, which was basic but comfortable (and great air con!!). The owner gave us some great tips (including Cafe Sarwaa!) - I recommend using the Whatsapp brochure guide they’ve developed! Communication was always quick and helpful! Thank you for a great stay!

Breakfast at the Sun Francisco was excellent. Varied, and served with a smile and a chat. The view as you tucked into breakfast was incredible. The yoga facility on the rooftop was amazing. As was the location. The room itself was a great size, lots of space, the balcony area was fabulous for an evening read. We found the vehicles coming into and out of the property quite distracting and invasive. It disturbed the peace and vibe of the area. Maybe people could carry bags into the property from the gate area in future. Other than that, we very much enjoyed our stay here. The reception staff were efficient and helpful.

United KingdomThe included breakfast was nice, but I was longing for one of the amazing smoothie bowls at the cafe but it wasn't included. I had granola, fruit, honey and curd which was really delicious too.
Perfect location right on the cliff front, but far enough back to be peaceful and tucked away. I loved the feel of the place, with the friendly reception and chill area with water, books and snacks. The Sun Francisco cafe happens to be one of my favourites and I love the menu and the vibe of the place. My room exceeded my expectations, really lovely and the bed comfy, also a beautiful balcony with a table and hanging swing chair. No AC but the fan was enough, and the room was kept cool with shades/curtains.

GermanyI wished I had a mosquito net in my room. It got very hot at night and I needed to open a window. That of course attracted quite a few mosquitoes too.
I stayed three nights at Mad about Coco. The room and bathroom were both clean and spacious. It was very close to the cliff and beach. The restaurant served great meals and it was also a good place to spend some time at.
