Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI thought I had booked a room with a double bed but turns out it was a twin bed. The beds were comfortable but the pillows were not comfortable. We were asked not to eat in the rooms which is unusual. The room said it had Netflix streaming but there was no TV in the room. There was nowhere to hang our clothes either, no wardrobe or rail (we were there for 4 nights). I was happy to have a private bathroom but the door was off the hinges and wouldn't close properly. There was a bench in the room which we put in the bathroom so we could put it against the door to keep it shut but there was still a gap showing. The location was absolutely fantastic and the price affordable but next time I think I will spend a little more money getting a more comfortable room in a hotel.
The location and the affordability of the room was about the best thing about this property. It's very close to Rainbow Street, The Harbour, City Hall. It's a central location.

RomaniaAs bad as it gets. The reservation was for a room with a bathroom, I received one without one. They managed to get me one with a bathroom after two days. After this problem neither the property manager nor the booking customer support did something to reimburse me with the difference. The bathroom used in common was not clean. Very bad experience!
Nothing.

BelarusI stayed in this place two times in two different rooms. The first time, my room was much better: it had a sink and was bigger. The second time, the room was right under the roof of the building with no sink. It was also really close to the bathroom and the kitchen, making it a loud corridor. You cannot sleep without earbuds at this place. The second time I was there, the room was a mess. When I checked in, the window was open, and the room was cold. I tried to close the window, but it was broken. Again, it was February, and I believe it is completely unacceptable to invite guests to a room with a window that does not close. I used the blanket to stop the wind. When I returned to the room, it heavily smelled like cigarettes, so I had to open the window again. When I went to sleep and turned the lights off, the light continued to blink every 10 seconds. It was super uncomfortable to sleep. The sheets had holes in them. Finally, the door handle was almost fully broken, and the door was really hard to lock. The bathrooms and the kitchen are dirty. The bathrooms have a shared towel for everyone which I think you shouldn’t do. In the kitchen, the guests did not wash dishes properly after themselves, and the fridge was smelly.
The location is right at the center of Reykjavík. I traveled in February but it was warm in the rooms. The Wi-Fi worked without issues. The bed was clean and really soft. The bathroom had a hair dryer.

PortugalThe only thing I missed was a mirror inside the bedroom. Since the bathroom is shared and there was only one, having a mirror would have helped to reduce the time spent in there.
Top rate for cleanliness. I've been to more expensive places that did not have this level of cleanliness.

United StatesWe got in quite early and stopped by just to see if by any chance we could check in early. Our host seemed annoyed by this. We didn't feel welcome at all. The room was in bad condition, or at least the bathroom was. The door was busted and so difficult to open, we were afraid to shut the door to pee as we often struggled to get back out. The track for the door seemed to be hung by a couple of loose screws. There was a single hook in the bathroom and one wedged right by the door to the hall, making it difficult to dry our towels. We weren't expecting 5 star accommodations, but this was by far the worst of the 4 places we stayed in Iceland, and it was not the cheapest.
The location was nice - right in the heart of the city, with easy access to many sights, shops, and restaurants.
