Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe restaurant needs to improve. The food was just okay. The Northern Lights Bar was amazing.
The hotel is set in a beautiful location. You feel like there is no one else on earth except for the people at the hotel. The spa was also a big plus for us after a long day of sightseeing.

United StatesWe drove to the hotel from the airport very late (close to midnight), following Google Maps. 20min before reaching the hotel, the only road from out of the blue had a "no entry" sign, and turning back and taking taking another route would add over 1hr. We called the hotel for an advice - which was not very helpful, so we took the risk and drove pass the sign, which was ok, but a bit stressful not knowing where we were going. The hotel should have communicated better these details prior to the arrival. Vegan options on the menu would be appreciated.

United KingdomIt was just a bit more basic than expected.
It was a nice but basic hotel. The breakfast and dinner were lovely and there was a good wine selection. View from our room was very good but the power plant next door dominated the area.

United StatesMy room felt dated. For the price paid, I had a certain expectation. Even before entering the room, the damaged/dated door frame was concerning. The towel warmer in the bathroom was non functional. Our room was right behind reception and we heard loud noises of people talking and laughing late into the night. I knew the hotel was full so didn’t bother calling the front desk as I knew there was nothing they could probably do. The location of the hotel was spectacular. The staff were absolutely amazing from check in to room service, to check out.

IrelandThe hotel is very sucluded so the only food without travel was in the hotel which while absolutely gorgeous was quite expensive. Would recommend bringing snacks as there are no nearby shops.
We spent two nights previous to this trip on tours looking for the northern lights without luck. We spent two nights here and we were able to see them both nights from the window of our hotel room

I recently visited the Ion Adventure Hotel in Iceland, and it truly lives up to its name as an amazing destination. The fact that it's featured on the BBC's "Amazing Hotels" speaks volumes. My experience at the hotel was highlighted by a special and incredibly tasty dinner. The culinary experience here is top-notch. However, I did find that breakfast was a bit on the expensive side, and it might be more convenient for guests if it were included in the room price, especially given that the room rates are already on the higher end. One thing to note is that the hotel is currently undergoing expansion, which has the potential to be fantastic. Still, there's always a concern that such growth might lead to a loss of the hotel's original charm. I hope they can maintain the unique character that makes this place so special while expanding. Overall, the Ion Adventure Hotel is a remarkable destination that offers a memorable experience, especially in terms of its dining. Just keep an eye on the breakfast pricing, and let's hope the expansion doesn't compromise the hotel's unique charm.

United StatesAlthough we did not get to see the Northern Lights (which is why I booked this hotel), we very much enjoyed our stay! The scenery on the drive to the hotel is spectacular (if not a little scary if you're in wind/rain/snow), and the hotel is very, very cool! We enjoyed getting into the warm geothermal pool and sitting in the Northern Lights lounge after dinner. The food is fantastic and the staff was more hospitable than anywhere else we had experienced on our 10-day trip.

NetherlandsWe were looking forward to our stay at ION and it far exceeded our expectations. Location is remote and beautiful, the rooms are very comfortable, the restaurant was great and appreciated small touches like the welcome drink. But the highlight was when we got the midnight wake up call to go and see the Northern Lights - we could see them even from our room window! Truly spectacular.

IcelandThere was nothing we did not like
The ION is a special spot, with a gorgeous view from the Northern Lights bar, where you can sit and unwind after a day of adventure. The restaurant on site is exceptional, serving an amazing breakfast buffet, lunch, and a superb dinner. The selections are excellent, and the food was artistically plated. The room felt spacious, the bed was comfortable, and we had a fabulous sleep. All in all, we would highly recommend the IOn, from its helpful and friendly staff to its gorgeous location.

United StatesThe pool and sauna in their spa area were cold. The food was the most expensive we had seen in Iceland as well. You’re also staying right next to a power plant which is not apparent in the photos of the hotel.
