Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomGrimsey is small, and an amazing place for wildlife. Gagga, the owner, was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble - she's obviously a local and knows everything and everybody. Brilliant host, great location and excellent facilities.

We absolutely loved our stay here. Gagga was at the ferry dock to pick us up and had delicious soup waiting for us at the house. The house was very clean and comfortable. We brought our own food for dinner but Gagga did offer to cook for us. She had breakfast ready for us in the morning. You can easily walk to the arctic circle sphere from the house. The airport is next door (there is not frequent air traffic so it is not noisy). We would love to return here someday.

United KingdomI had a blissful 25 hours in Grimsey. Just wished I could have stayed longer. Gagga such a wonderful host, and person. I had a lovely cosy room with a fantastic view. Everywhere was very clean, and the kitchen was very well stocked (including stove top espresso pot). Gagga picked me up from the ferry, explained the island’s history and gave me information on opening hours. When she took me back to the ferry she took me to see her flock of sheep - her husband is a shepherd. Thank you Gagga

United KingdomEverything about my stay at Guesthouse Basar was exceptional. I cannot rate it high enough. The accommodation was impeccable, warm and comfortable, spotlessly clean. Gagga my host bent over backwards to make my stay enjoyable and memorable. She picked me up from the ferry, took me on a tour of the Island, provided all my meals and on the day of departure drove me back to the ferry. She was and is amazing. I have no hesitation in recommending Basar to future travellers. They will not be disappointed.

United KingdomThis stay was fantastic, we had the entire guesthouse to ourselves and Gagga made us feel super welcome - greeting us off the boat and driving us to the guesthouse. Grimsey is stunning and it was the perfect base to go exploring and walk round the whole island.

RomaniaThe Basar guesthouse was perfect for us. Very clean and stylishly decorated. Gagga picked us up from the ferry and gave us a lift to the guesthouse. The lady is very nice and helpful, she even offered us how she could help us. We will remember Grimsey and the Guesthouse Basar for a long time. Gagga, we wish you, your family and Guesthouse Basar all the best!

NetherlandsRoom was small.
Extremely nice guesthouse with a great location on the island. Next to the airport, a few minutes walk to the town and the closest guesthouse to the arctic circle. From the kitchen in the guesthouse I was able to watch the whales feeding. It was a quiet location with all the things I needed. Great stay.

FranceThere were only two bathrooms and the toilets were in the bathrooms so sometimes there was a small wait to use the bathroom.....but this really was a small price to pay for the experience of staying there.
If you get the chance to stay at the Guesthouse Basar, take it - you won't forget it. Grimsey is an amazing place and Gagga is at the heart of the community. She could not have done more for us, including picking us up from the boat and running us into the centre when we needed to go in if it was raining and we didn't want to walk. In fact, one day someone from the island offered my husband a lift when he was walking down to the shop, it's that kind of place. You can see large numbers of puffins very close by, even from the kitchen window. Everyone was friendly and our two night trip was truly unforgettable - thank you Gagga!

United StatesYou cannot talk about Guesthouse Basar with out talking about the entire island of Grimsey. Magical and idyllic come to mind. The host, Gagga, is the heart of the house and the island. She picked us up at the ferry and the fairy tale began. She has a very lovely house at the airport. Do not worry about the noise. One plane a day in and out at 2 pm. She also runs the airline operation. The most interesting people come to her plane including the only person in his 20s to live on the island (and a former mayor) and an entrepreneur from Australia who is looking to invest on the island. You can look out a window at the guest house and see the Arctic Circle marker. At the end of our 24 hour stay (far too short, but we will be back) Gagga took us back to the ferry via a sheep farm and brought some bread so we could feed the lambs. Oh, did I mention the puffins? Literally thousands.

United StatesNothing, I had a fantastic experience.
It as an unforgettable experience. Gagga was a fantastic host who made sure we had the best time possible in Grímsey, despite being there for a short period of time in the winter. She knew every detail about the Iceland, showed us around, and was kind enough to find food for dinner since the town restaurant was closed when we arrived. The house was gorgeous, with a fantastic modern kitchen and a gorgeous dining room full of pictures of Grímsey. Internet was exceptional and the breafast was huge and outstanding. This is the part of my trip to Iceland that I remember the most. Totally recommended.

Guesthouse Basar is charming and cozy, perfect for exploring Grimsey! The room was tidily nestled under the eaves. Breakfast each morning filled me up for the day, and I really appreciated the ample hot beverage supplies available in the kitchen when I returned from hiking around the island. I was the only guest during my stay, it was a very peaceful trip.

ItalyIs there a way to make of an already wonderful place as Grimsey an unforgettable paradise? The answer is yes. At Básar Guesthouse. The hotel is at the airport facility. If you come by boat it takes some minutes by walk, but the owner Gagga came to pick us by car. She is a professional and attentive host, always available in case of need. Breakfast is majestic. What you need to spend the day making excursions and hiking around the island. Rooms and beds are super comfortable, warm and welcoming. Even if as an Italian prices in Iceland are quite high for me, I found the price very fair and the service outstanding. Don’t miss your chance to stay at the Básar Guesthouse while on the island. A diamond inside a larger diamond that is Grimsey.
