Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

It's a good stop after the ferry from Westfjords. It offers what a hostel offers. The wifi did not work very well in my room. Generally, it's a good stay.

NetherlandsShared toilets. I have a problem with it. We did not use the kitchen but it seemed a little bit small, so, specially during the summer, might be a little complicated to find a spot and cook in there... But I don't know, just guessing. I wish I had a kettle in my room...
Very charming guesthouse. I loved the interior styling! Nice staff. Bed was very comfortable. We had a big window with a view to the ocean... Great showers. Common areas are pleasant. There is even a piano you can play (from 10 to 22 it is allowed)! Good breakfast. Parking for free in the front. Beautiful location. Stykkisholmur is the cuttest little town!

United KingdomThere's a walk to the shower, but no problem.
My kids (aged 32 and 30) rated this among the coolest we stayed - really homely lounge and kitchen and dining space. Helpful hosts were there to welcome us. All clean and comfortable. Most of all, the location was outstanding, and the value incredible. Really nice stay.

GermanyI think the price could be lower in comparison with other hostels in Iceland.
The guesthouse is a good option for staying one night, which is more affordable than other accommodations in the area. Bathrooms and kitchen were clean and check in was easy by door codes which were sent to your smartphone before your stay. Bedroom was little and with no further equipment, like a wardrobe for jackets would have been nice, but the bed was comfortable.

HungaryUnfortunately the shower head cannot be moved, it is fixed at the top. On the ceiling in my room there were metal tubes going through and I had to listen to some loud weird noises (gas? heating?) the whole night, which is not so cool when you would like to - I am so sorry, but - sleep! Check out time is 10:00, which is kind of "OK", I suggest to change it to 06:00 so everyone can just leave early and catch that worm.
The location is the best feature of the guesthouse. Right at the harbour, close to the ferry to the Westfjords and Flatey. Lovely painted house with a unique interiour design and a plethora of bric-a-brac. Easy check-in.

SingaporeMy room felt like Van Gogh’s room in his St Rémy Asylum, only worse cos I have a basement room with views of gravel and cars. A constant noise of machinery running was coming somewhere. I’m not sure if it was the heat or if it came from outside. There was an overwhelming smell of artificial fragrance from cleaning agents. Kettle was malfunctioning.

IcelandMost terrible experience I have ever had at a guesthouse. I received an email the day before check-in asking me to download an app to use electronic keys for the front door and door to my room. Okay, no problem. When I arrived at the property, the keypads turned green, indicating that the electronic keys were working, BUT, the doors to the property were still locked. I called two customer service numbers for the property, but there was NO ONE WORKING THERE or answering the phones. After spending 20 minutes just trying to get into the building, I finally started pounding on the door in hopes that another guest would let me in. When someone finally opened the door, I told them I was having trouble with the keys and asked if they could direct me to the reception area. They said there was no reception area and there were no staff members in the building. Okay. The guests told me that they also could not open the doors to the property from the outside; they had to knock on the door and wait in hopes that another guest on the inside would let them in. "Then how do you leave?" I asked them. To which they replied, "We don't. We have had to just stay in the building since we entered." This is absurd! Who wants to go on vacation only to be TRAPPED INSIDE THEIR HOTEL because it is NOT POSSIBLE TO OPEN THE DOORS TO THE PROPERTY FROM THE OUTSIDE? My partner and I ended up needing to book a last-minute, very expensive room in another hotel in Stykkisholmur. No one from Sjávarborg has responded to my request for help or explanation. Awful experience all around.

United StatesOur room was up two flights of stairs from the parking area in the back. Difficult to get luggage up the narrow stairs. Showers were in the basement (down 2 floors from our room). Staff in the cafe was only able to offer minimal assistance with lodging issues. Price was too expensive to not even include breakfast when there is a cafe on site. Also, very noisy in the evenings.
Nice location close to the harbor and walking distance to restaurants and grocery store.

TaiwanThe service is really bad. We booked two rooms, but the host just gave us the code of one room. And also, because of some accidents happened, some of our friend could not live in room, we try to texted to the host, but the host didn’t answer me any messages until midnight we arrived at hotel ,and we get the what’s app number and called to the host. The host told me it is ok to refund of one of our room and ask us to sleep in four people’s room which in fact we have five people. However, tomorrow morning, the host said they could not do anything about it, and they could not refund to us.

United StatesUncomfortable beds and too noisy for our party.
Location is next door to a fancy restaurant and across the street from the harbor and a fish and chips and ice cream food carts. The hotel has a nice cafe downstairs. This is more of a hostel style place. We did have a private toilet. Room was bunk beds and double bed close together. Showers were in the lower level (3 total). We had a lot of stairs to carry heavy luggage but managed fine. None of us 4 slept well as the beds were uncomfortable and we could hear people in our halls as they used a shared toilet. The breakfast was very good and filling. Recommend walking across the way to the lighthouse.

BelgiumA lot of noise from other tourists at night. Breakfast too late when you have to take the ferry. And very crowdy at the same hour - because everyone needs to take the ferry.
This hostel is perfect for one night. Especially when you need the ferry - just in front of the house. There is a shared kitchen available in the basement and a coffehouse in the front.

CanadaBreakfast should be included for the high price paid. A 2 star hotel for a 4 star price. But that is the cost of rooms in Iceland today. The check out time was early: 10:00am. I asked to use the <free> wifi at 10:05 am but was told to go outside and use a network that was not available.
Ease of check-in.
