Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI have stayed at Kex many times so this review is painful to write. The noise throughout the night was excessive, to the point that I left and stayed elsewhere for my second night. Kex is often voted one of Reykjavik’s best live music venues so if this does not suit your wants and needs, stay elsewhere. I fear this is my last time at Kex.
The location is unparalleled, especially with a sea view across the mountains.

NetherlandsKitchen was dirty in the evening. Stacks of dirty cups, glasses and plates left behind. Not all the guests clean after themselves.
Proximity to the center of Reykjavik. Kitchen had everything needed for proper cooking. The mattress was great 👍 and the sheets were clean.

CanadaI can't recommend Kex enough to anyone who wants to make Reykjavik their base to explore Iceland. It was my home for 5 nights and turned out to be the best decision I could have made. Fabulous location, lovely facilities, made some great friends, both hostel mates and locals at the bar, and the highlight was the warm and helpful service. Definitely staying here again on my next visit.

United StatesKex is undergoing renovation and it is extremely lound and lots of banging from the heavy machinery. At night the people entering the floor level can be clearly heard since the door slams shut everytime. The electricity turns off from the main bathrooms starting arround 9pm so you cannot shower and have to go in the dark. Because of these things i dont think its a good price for the money spent.
Good location and bar.

GermanyHowever the dormitories are huuuuuuge! So zero privacy and silence. There is always some walking around or snoring.
The location and the facilities are good. The crew was also very thoughtfulness. After the check out I could left my luggage in the store for a few hours.

The place is huge and of course the design is a plus. So if outside is too cold you don’t mind staying here! Everything perfect. Very central and close to the only supermarket in the center and from the pick up point of most of the tours.

United StatesDon't get me wrong, I can tell the staff works unbelievably hard. They will clean your room every day in a hostel dorm, as someone is usually checking out. I see them always cleaning the floors. For whatever reason, and maybe the facilities are slightly old, I find the bathrooms are not the cleanest hostel bathrooms I've been in. However, this could be due to the amount of people that use them, or the color of the floor. Everything else is fine about them. Maybe I'm just psyching myself out, as I dislike having to wear any shower shoes... But this is my ONLY negative thing I would say about Kex. Otherwise, I love KEX!
I love staying at Kex. Every time I come to Iceland, if I want to be in the center of the city, this hostel has the best location. I am actually a huge fan of their vegan pizza, as well, and would happily argue that it's the best in town! There's a kitchen, as well as cafe/bar in the hostel. It's also conveniently located around the corner of a few markets, other restaurants, and one of the main shopping streets. I also used the laundry services on my last visit. It cost me about $14/Euro, but at least the machines were user friendly and didn't shrink my clothes and actually dried them (and I generally run mine on a lower setting). I also love the staff for being super friendly and accommodating and coming from all over the world. I think I will always stay at Kex when I'm traveling by myself.

United StatesThere were broken tiles in the shower that were a safety hazard. The bottom hinge on one of the shower doors was completely off the door jam. Toilet paper in the bathroom was empty almost my whole stay. No privacy in the bunks.

JapanOne day I came back to my bed and I found socks that was not mine(mans socks), so I assumed someone used my bed. It was disgusting, and I asked reception to change the room but they didn’t allow it. I know it is not their fault, but this is the only thing I was uncomfortable. I recommend girls to stay only woman room.

Went to reception, guy wasn't there immediately, but took a few minutes and caused a bit of panic about missing my bus to airport

ChinaThe room for 42 people is too big, and people will come in and out at night until after three o'clock at night. Starting at five o'clock in the morning, people started to set off for the next day's trip one after another. So the room was not quiet all night. Since the layout of the 42-person room also has three sub-rooms, it is recommended that it be divided into three rooms.
The location of the youth hostel is very good, cost-effective and the sanitary conditions are also very good. The hostel is also equipped with enough toilets and bathrooms, and it did not feel crowded. There is also a fully equipped kitchen.

GermanyStaying in a big hostel could always be a Russian roulette, one must have luck to not end in a noisy dormitory. Unfortunately, that happened with me.
