Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe downside was the lack of guests cleaning after themselves especially in the guest kitchens. Clearly this has remained a problem as the staff have posted signs everywhere stating it is the guests' responsibility to keep common areas clean. I would definitely recommend this place for a two night stay max, any longer and you're just suffering.
The concept is nice. Events every night, drinks and food on site. Locals tend to spend their time here chatting and Airwaves shows were hosted here too! Great location to the coast, Harpa, and bus terminal

SwedenThey didn’t clean anything, the room was also very dirty with a bad smell. Sheets were not changed and they didn’t believe me when I said it was used. Then someone came to check the sheets, which then was changed and also personal belongings were also removed such as medication. No information was given at check in such as Wi-Fi or information on the facility. They gave me the card and said it is upstairs….

Costa RicaMaybe a small oven is missing in the kitchen, that would be perfect!
Probably the best hostel I've ever stayed at. Friendly staff, (lots of) clean bathrooms, good location, great WiFi, lounge/chill areas, nice kitchen and laundry center. Stayed in the 42-bed dormitory and its not as bad as it sounds, it has 4 aisles with beds which makes it feel more like you're in a 12-bed dormitory.

PolandEverything but location. Dirty and moldy. Ridiculous loud. Staff unavailable most of time. No response to messages. Bathrooms cold. Old lockers that are super loud so no chance to open them without everyone hearing. Very uncomfortable bunks with difficult ladders. Kitchen checked maybe once a week, not daily as stated by hostel.

United KingdomI really didn't enjoy the shower situation. I think space could easily be made more useful. Communal showers are not at all used as many feel uncomfortable to do so. Having a toilet and a shower in the same room is also complicated as people will be wearing footwear in the same room as you're meant to be showering. The floor gets very wet and dirty. There didn't seem to be enough lockers for every bed as at least 3 of them in my room were broken and unable to be locked securely.
The hostel was fairly nice, the price and location cannot be argued in regards to Iceland. Having stayed in many hostels it definitely isn't my favourite but it was still a nice stay. I didn't spend much time here apart from sleeping which is often what hostels appeal is.

NetherlandsThe bunkbeds were very noisy, every move made the bed make noise. Also there are metal lockers in the bunkrooms, it makes a lot of sound if these are opened or closed. Even the door of the room closes very hard and wakes you up everytime someone enters or leaves.
Clean sheets. The bar and lobby area is nice and cozy, nice place to relax and meet other people. Pizzas are good!

ArgentinaThere are no plugs in the upper bunk bed which makes it inconvenient when you only stay for a night and need to charge your devices. The pillow is the thinnest thing I've ever seen and the bed it is not comfortable.
it is great that they have a 24/7 front office because most of the flights arrive late at night. The common space is nice, the deco makes a difference and it is warm inside. Good location

BrazilLooks like a dangerous location My car had the windows broken and my camera and cell phone were stolen in the middle of the afternoon IN FRONT OF THE HOSTEL. The staff were not very concern about my issue. Just sent me to the police station. And then, "next in line, please"
The beds are pretty decents. Bathrooms with good shower

BahrainThere was a smell in the corridor that can be avoided by adding some air freshers or supply of fresh air + exhaust system.
Staff was like wow, so supportive for anything and explain you in very much detail. I want to give 110 out of 100 to staff. Love all of you.

CanadaCleanliness. The corridor smells horrible because of cooking in the kitchen and there is absolutely no exhaust/ventillation. The rooms are dirty (almost never cleaned?) and smells funny. The washrooms are a hard pass as well.
Location is great. Staff is nice. The reception and bar is cool. Breakfast (2000ISK) is okay. Pizzas (2000ISK) are freshly made.

United KingdomThe rooms were very dark, especially the kitchens and bathrooms which had no windows and were poorly ventilated. Bathrooms were smelly, often dirty, and had mould in. Kitchen was quite small for the number of people it served and was busy around meal times, very dark and one of the lights broke during my stay. I stayed in a 6 bed female dorm, it would be nice if there were also curtains for the top bunks, and there were more lights - it was very difficult to see in the rooms throughout both the day and night. The lockers were so creaky even when opening them carefully, and certainly disturbed everyone in the room. There wasn't really enough space to put your things outside the locker as the room was very narrow. It would be nice to have more open storage shelves instead of the desk. During my stay, it rained a lot (not abnormal for Iceland) and the roof leaked badly in several places, including the kitchen and hallway. It wasn't a few drips of water (which I could maybe understand) but massive puddles that weren't cleaned up for many hours, and seemed to be a regular issue. This is inexcusable in my opinion, and happened on several occasions - this isn't what I expect when staying in a country like Iceland even if it is a hostel. Overall, the hostel is a cool concept, but it's clearly poorly maintained and some investment in the building is needed.
The check-in experience was great, staff were happy to watch my luggage in the day, and the bar area was really cool. I liked that there were girls only dorm options and the location right by the sea was nice. Kitchen was fairly small but had everything required and lots of fridge space. Nice that bottom bunks in female dorm had curtains and lockers were provided that could be secured (if you brought your own lock). It was also good you had your own shelf, light, and storage by the bed and they'd tried to make the top beds more private by putting a cover on the metal around the edges.

United KingdomI recently stayed at Kex Hostel, and I must say I had an absolutely terrible experience, all thanks to one significant issue – a leaking roof. The fact that this problem has not been properly addressed is not only disappointing but also dangerous and disgusting, especially considering the potential health hazards it poses. It's beyond belief that such a serious issue like a leaking roof could be left unattended. Water dripping into the common areas and rooms is not only an inconvenience but a genuine health concern. The dampness, mould, and potential structural damage that can result from a neglected leaking roof is simply unacceptable.
I must give credit where it's due. The staff at Kex Hostel, along with their associates from the Greek Mafia, were surprisingly fantastic. They were hardworking, very polite, and did their best to make our stay as comfortable as possible, despite the deteriorating condition of the building. I wouldn't hesitate to commend them for their professionalism and efforts in the face of such adverse circumstances.
