Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWas placed right next to the door in the 42 bed room, with the door being quite loud it was difficult to get proper rest. The bed was also very squeaky and private bathrooms got very dirty. Over the weekend music kept going until about midnight which could be heard all the way in the bedrooms.
Great location, only a 2 minute walk to the Main Street. Outside seating area, bar with more affordable food options relative to Reykjavik, many spaces to relax whether you want somewhere private or with other travellers.

GermanyYou had to walk with luggage upstairs because there is no elevator. I didn't really have a problem with that but maybe some peolpe would.
The check-in was super easy, the service was always really friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the restaurant they have in the lobby - the pizza was great. The atmosphere is really great, I didn't expect that from as hostel to be honest.

SloveniaTotally worn out and narrow stairs and no elevator to lift Dirty bathrooms, toilets with no discretion, with doors on hallway with lounge, bed smell and no air in the room, my bed was taken by someone at my arrival. Constantly someone sleeping in the room, where no air and curtains down. The sign on the door was really rude to guests, something like "you need to check out by 10 am, because our amazing cleaning team needs to take care of 120 beds and it is really tight AT THIS RATE". Go and clean yourself first! Your "hostel" is a WAREHOUSE.
The kitchen has shelves with free food, where you can leave your food for others, so less waste. I liked free of charge ear plugs against snoring neighbours.

AustraliaThis is by far the grooviest hostel I have ever stayed in! The design and decor is so special and there is a really great vibe. Its perfect to meet people, the coffee is great and the facilities are super good - private and communal showers, luggage storage, outdoor seating, clean communal kitchen on each floor, luggage storage in rooms (BYO padlock). Great location with parking outside and not too far from the main bus stop either

GermanyThe bathroom was a little dirty but definitely not too bad. The pillows were way to small though and not comfy at all.
Easy check in, even in the middle of the night. Rooms are okay, the lockers are big enough to fit a small backpack. There was an output and some boxes next to the bed to put stuff in. The kitchen was okay, but not too well equipped.

SwedenThere was a party every evening which was so loud that you heard it in your room. The Saturday party ended after midnight, and I couldn't sleep because the noise gave me serious bad headaches :(
The location was perfect..just right in the city. Bed was comfortable. Hostels were expensive in Iceland, so I had to settle for this

SwitzerlandThe facilities are not always suuuuper clean, but they really try to keep them clean. if 8 people take a shower in a row in a 1 person shower, it just gets a little bit unclean (everything is wet), but thats it.
the concierge, guy at the desk, was very helpful in moving a bit the people around so that we were able to have a stay for 2 nights in the same room and did not have to change (/checkout and check-in again) after one night - even though we booked separately!

United StatesThis was our first hostel stay and it was such a cool experience. It had so many free spaces to gather and hang out and it was perfectly decorated to introduce us to Iceland. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were clean and private. It was easy walking distance to everything we wanted and it was a beautiful very of the water. The staff was helpful and gave great recommendations. There is a lively bar and outdoor space right below our room but there was no problem with the noise for sleeping. Would absolutely stay here again!
