Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceThe establishment rented the first floor for a private party. It was a giant mess until very late. Walls were shaking and people were screaming extremely loudly. Impossible to sleep before they've finished, even with ear's plugs.
The decoration. The kindness of the lady Sunday morning.

United Stateslate evenings can be noisy at times but that’s ok
Ensure you understand this is a multi beds in same room hostel. Beyond that this is a great location for multiple types of travel. Wouldn’t recommend for families with small children just because of the setup other than that all are ok. Service: check in and check out process very smooth and detailed explanations received. The cleaning crew is doing an awesome job every morning making the place smell fresh and keeping everything stacked up. Great job, O ! The location is very easy accessible and quite centrally located and closed to everything. There’s a bar and breakfast is served in the morning (for a charge). I found the breakfast price a little too high for me , potentially different options like coffe and bagel for 1000 or something like this would attract more. The late evening rcan be a little noisy due to events happening downstairs but if you are tired from the daily trips you should be fine. Overall great concept and great location to crash, kudos to the owners. Speaking of the owners a little advice: there’s some renovation needed in near future hope you’re planning for it. Highly recommend this location!

MalaysiaI checked into KEX in mid March, not a peak season. However it was already quite crowded. The 40+ beds dorm.... I felt sorry to the guys in bed 1 and 2, hope they are deep sleepers! The shared kitchen is too small for the size of your hostel (even in March. And also the number of toilets and showers. You can see people queueing for showers from 7pm to 10pm (those came back from tours) It's slightly pricey, but this is Iceland.
The location is good, facing the sea and close to town centre. The tour desk is a helpful thing to have for solo traveller or those not self-drive travellers.

United KingdomThe bathrooms and rooms do need a deep clean :/
Perfect location, loved the interior, it is a bit noisy from the live performances but I don't mind lol. I went to a live performance of Ruby and Friends on my last night and they were amazing!

MyanmarOne very big minus are the doors of the rooms. Every time someone is not carefully closing them they just slam and make a lot of noise! This is extremely annoying at night and early morning when you're trying to sleep and the slamming door wakes you up every 5min. Whoever designed these doors was not thinking clearly! The doors are the only reason I rated my stay with 6 (because I want to sleep at night!) otherwise I would probably give a 9 (not 10 because the price is too high).
The hostel has everything you need; kitchen, several bathrooms, big common space, many activities etc. Location is perfect; right in the center. Thomas at the reception is extremely helpful and saved me from going to the wrong location for my golden circle tour :)

AustriaSome of this comes with the hostel experience in general, but I booked a bed in an eight-bed dorm to try to get better sleep. Alas, people came and went the entire time, some guy answering his cell phone and speaking at full volume at 02:00, waking up to the smell of vomit, which the trash bin was full of, and the cherry on top: an extremely drunken and beligerent man being escorted into the room at midnight by two police, a man who yelled and threw things around while I hid under the sheets. When I mentioned this experience, the staff member pretty much shrugged and said "It's a hostel, it happens." No mention of a complimentary coffee or breakfast or something...which shows that this kind of thing happens here often. And I paid 40€ per night for this experience.
The restaurant has reasonably priced food and drinks (for Iceland) and the staff were pretty friendly.

The hostel was great, I particularly loved the location and the creative interior design. You can read comics off the wall in the kitchen (also you can get some nice food/drink just by going downstairs).

IrelandThe toilets, showers and washrooms need more cleaning though. A few charging sockets weren't working around a few beds inside the room that I stayed in.
Good, budget-friendly hostel accommodation stay for a few nights. All cafes, shops, restaurants, and supermarkets were only walking distance away from the accommodation. In the front of the building, you can see a very beautiful sea view and can easily go for a walk there. The all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet was good and normal. Plenty of seats to sit and has a lovely bookshelf, full of books to read and to relax. The Wi-Fi connection was perfect too.

United StatesNot the most quiet place. Even in a single room, I could hear much of the activity around. The lobby is up 1 flight of stairs, and there is no elevator, so be prepared to be carrying your luggage up stairs. I was able to leave my suitcase there until I could check in, and when I went on a guided tour. The room is locked, but there is no labeling system, which made me a little nervous, but Iceland is a very safe place and my stuff was just fine.
Very cool vibe. My room was great, and the bathrooms were fine, and felt clean enough. Had a good breakfast, and the bar/restaurant downstairs is awesome and a great place to hang out. Very close to all the main sights and restaurants. Plus, most guided tours and buses will stop right outside, so you don't have to go anywhere else to meet them. I had a double room and it was very spacious, some sound leaked from the bar downstairs, but it didn't bother me too much.

CanadaI had bed no.1 in the 42-bed dorm so it was very noisy with the banging of the door every time someone came in or out.
The hostel is very well-located and the ambiance is great. It is also very clean and comfy bed.

CanadaI was disappointed to see the rooms and common spaces seem to be getting very old and falling apart. The fun, edginess of Kex seems to be shifting toward “run down”. Some updates and upkeep would help. We didn’t have enough outlets or lamps for each bed. The bathrooms/showers were always wet and had pools of water on the floor. Some small changes and updates would make a big difference.
I’ve stayed at Kex before and the staff, location, events, and fellow travellers are always lovely.
