Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesIt was a pretty noisy place. Construction during the day and partying at night.
The location was good. Views from the windows were great. Close to the center of town. There was a really good band playing on the weekend. The staff was wonderful and the kitchen had good food fairly cheap. I will stay again if in Reykjavik.

United KingdomThe bedroom doors are metal and would bang through the night due to how fast they closed. Also it's my own fault but I didn't realise that this hostel was more of a 'party social' hostel so it was a bit loud at night - this stopped at about 11pm. I did wear earplugs through the night so this was fine with me.
My first impression of the Hostel was how beautifully it was decorated, it had such a cosy and welcoming vibe! I unexpectedly got upgraded to a private room despite only staying for one night! I loved how the bathrooms were spread across the main hallway and they were all large and private (also uniquely decorated). It felt like no other hostel I had stayed in before, and the staff were lovely and accommodating. Strong wifi throughout and a lovely bar with an amazing view of the sea.

United Kingdombut as i was carrying a large suitcase, I was surprised that there was no lift at the hostel, so when i was dropped off, i was entering the hostel from the bottom floor, so i need to carry my suitcase to ground floor to the reception to check in first and then one more floor to the rooms. bathroom was not that clean but acceptable as i understand its a public facility and there were no cleaners during the night. water was not too strong.
location was good - i got drop off from the airport bus at the hotel, only a few mins walk to the main street. around a few mins walk to bus stop 9 (where a lot of tour and airport transfer pick up points). room was ok, the lamp at my room was broken so it was always dark. there was a storage locker for everyone in the room but it was a bit old and rusty and made a noise when you opening the locker. the design of the hostel was stylish. seeing a lot of reviews saying the bathroom was a public one, but actually there were around 4 private showers on each floor so you could definitely take a shower in a private one. and actually as everyone wants to take it privately, the public one is always empty. bed was ok, i was located on the upper bunk so i did not have the black curtain, did not feel as private as the lower bunk. there was restaurant at ground floor, they do breakfast starting at 7:30am. not too busy and noisy. staff was helpful. you can store luggage in here after checking out. the view was good.

United KingdomSome of the beds were noisy due to all being metal, in a dormitory this can be a bit noisy at times. But even in the 42 people dormitory I found everyone was respectful and trying to minimise noise as much as possible.
Everything was on site. Breakfast was good and good value, there was also a laundry room which was really useful when all my clothes got so wet after the tours.

NetherlandsThe floor and some bathrooms were a bit too dirty and the rooms didn't smell that good.
The viwe when you leave the hostel was amazing and really well located. I could do everything in Reykjavik by just walking. The hostel had everything I needed and more. Unfortunately it wasnt really neat and clean, but despite this, I would definetly recommend it.

United KingdomThe kitchen lacks basic equipment. Two years ago, there was no can opener, to my shock horror, the is still not one. The kitchen is cleaned well in the morning, but due to messy clients it's a bit untidy by the evening. The toilets and showers could due with an upgrade
This was my second time in the hostel. Two years ago, I booked a Northern Lights tour. I did not get to see it but the company who the hostel booked honoured the agreement to allow to have another try for free. I still have not seen it, so will be back next year. Some of the staff were nice and helpful. A shout out to Boa, for being so. Unfortunately other members of staff need to smile a bit more and have a more cheerful attitude while on the job. The bar is a lot of fun and the location is OK. The breakfast might seem like a lot of money, but for Iceland prices I think it was good value for money. Especially if you like to eat a lot. Otherwise if you are not a big eater I would suggest a snack in the kitchen to save on money
