Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesIt was a little hard to find the first time. But after finding it, it was super easy (just behind Corte San Pietro, on the main street to Piazza San Pietro Caveoso).
Breakfast - the best we had on the whole trip. Home-made panna cotta, stracciatella bruschetta, fresh fruit. Room - it's a cave. Really gorgeous design and warm (we went in winter). We slept so well after a nice soak in the huge tub that we almost missed breakfast. Location - perfect. Right off the main piazza. Loads of shops nearby, but still a little recessed so as to not be noisy. Hosts - Mima and Enzo were so warm and kind. We arrived early, so we took a 10:30am group tour after quickly dropping our bags off. It's easy to get lost when in the Sasso Caveoso area for the first time and I was grateful for Mima escorting us to the tour meeting point. If we ever go back to Matera, we're DEFINITELY staying here again. Big luxury hotels don't have their level of personal touch.

AustraliaNothing - it was amazing.
Location, beautiful owners, large and delicious breakfast, very unique cave accommodation, close to everything in the Sassi. Easy to get to from the shuttle bus in the square ( just a minute or two up the road from the piazza). Enzo is also an excellent guide and we loved learning about the history of the area.

United StatesWe really enjoyed our stay. Enzo and his wife Mima are wonderful hosts. Enzo was so helpful with recommendations for dining, transportation and providing some history of Matera. He also assisted us in arranging taxi service on our departure. The breakfast was prepared by Mima and was absolutely delicious! Our cave room was exceptionally clean and comfortable.

ColombiaIncredible place to stay at, wow wow wow!!! Great location to walk around Matera. The staff was incredibly nice, super attentive to our every need. They helped us set up a guided tour of matera as soon as we arrived. The room was spectacular, super comfy bed and pillows, spacious and beautifully decorated. The experience of staying in a sasso is one you should have, simply unique. This is a very special place. The breakfast is included and it is just amazing!!! best breakfast we had in our entire trip to Italy. The only thing that I found a bit difficult after a day was the smell of humidity, the sassos are naturally very humid. But still, would do it all over again.

United StatesAmazing location, right in the heart of matera. Following the hosts recommendation we took the shuttle from the parking garage to the piazza. From there, we did not have to carry our luggage very far at all! The breakfast was crazy in size, variety and flavor. So much delicious local foods!

United StatesThe humidity of the Cave was a bit uncomfortable, but not much can be done about that as it is a cave. There was a dehumidifier that ran constantly.
Enzo and Family were wonderful hosts! Breakfast was exceptional. The room was very quiet.

AustraliaAbsolutely nothing at all.
Mimma and Enzo were the perfect hosts in an UNESCO area, such an important location of Europe. Clear instructions on where to park and catch a small shuttle to the Sassi of Matera. On our arrival Enzo made us a coffee and explained the highlights of the area. Upon entering our room we were overwhelmed by the attention to detail of the fit out and comfort of the room. Now to Mimmas breakfast. A savoury artisan platter of the region, 10/10. A sweet platter of the region 10/10. A fruit platter of the region 10/10. All with the time to have the ingredients explained. Truely the highest quality breakfast I have had anywhere in the world. Can’t wait to go back.

SwitzerlandEnzo and Mima run a wonderful B&B. The breakfast was the best and most delicious we had throughout our road trip through Italy. The room was spotless and authentic, and perfectly located within the Sassi. The shuttle bus stop from the parking is close, and so are plenty of great restaurants and bars. Both owners where very helpful and made our stay in Matera one we will not forget. I would not hesitate to recommend Al Conveto to anyone heading to Matera.

United StatesWe liked it all. My husband was skeptical and at first glance he loved it. We booked the superior room. I would definitely stay there again
Sleeping in a cave was really fun. The renovation was well done with nice fixtures yet it kept the feeling of a cave which I wanted. Breakfast was overflowing and delicious! The owners are gracious and interesting. Mima met us at the taxi and helped carry our bags up the steps to the apartment. All Matera is steps! Property gets 5 + stars from us.
