Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing, we couldn’t fault it.
Great, small hotel just a few minutes from the old town. Quirky and interesting interior as housed the owners maritime collection. Quality of the decor was excellent. Really good outdoor space as well. We did not use the restaurant as we went into the old town but again it looked good. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Free private parking was a bonus.

United KingdomThe hotel facilities were disappointing. The restaurant was closed. The jacuzzi was not working. The hotel said it has spa but upon checking they said the spa and sauna was in the nearby hotel which is 500m away. The room layout was strange and inconvenient. The hotel did not even put a bottle of water in the room which is a basic service expected from a 4 star hotel.
The staff was kind, polite and helpful. The breakfast was decent.

New ZealandIt was an ok hotel but definitely not worth nearly €200 a night. There were big shower leakages and the extractor fan didn’t seem to work - hence there was a fuzzy mould growing on the walls. While I know the climate of Otranto is quite humid, they need to take extra care that the shower unit is watertight and there is some way to dissipate the steam. The AC unit did work but it was quite loud even on the lowest fan speed. Breakfast way feeble and the waiter who made coffees was super busy. I would’ve rated the hotel higher if I paid less.
Location and interesting displays for the curious-minded. It was clean minus the humidity problem is the bathroom. Reception staff were helpful.

United KingdomNo pool but large open terrace that was very hot. Room was a little small with small separate shower. But good value for money. Bed was a little hard but air conditioning good.
Well located for old town and castle with free car parking Modern with nautical theme with good varied breakfast

AustraliaI guess it was peak season but the high price did not reflect the quality of the room. The mattress was old and had no cushioning left on the springs. The bathroom had ventilation and drainage issues with a sewerage smell. The air conditioning unit in the room was really old and surrounded by mould. A refurbishment of the rooms would make this hotel so much better as it has a lot going for it.
Really interesting hotel with a nautical museum which we loved. The breakfast and restaurant service were really nice. The location we think was the best in Otranto - a short 2 min walk to the historic centre and much better than staying on the touristy main corso. The staff were very helpful - Paola in particular, who was lovely and helped us book a boat trip.

AustraliaArrived and weren’t told the aircon wasn’t working. Spent the first 45 mins trying to get it to work before calling down and were told it didn’t work. They should have told us. Wasn’t fixed until the next day. Very hot overnight. Weren’t offered any compensation at any point which was very disappointing for an expensive hotel where you are paying for a basic amenity. Also booked a triple room and were given a double. We didn’t have 3 guests so it didn’t really matter so we didn’t raise a fuss but the extra space was paid for and not received. Overall felt quite cheated for money out of this hotel.
Clean rooms.

AustraliaRoom was a lot smaller and less modern than what it looks in the pictures. The shower had cold water only at times (Not sure if they ran out of hot water). Wifi was a bit slow.
Great location, just a short walk from the main historic centre. Also, breakfast was really good and had a lot of variety to offer and the staff here were really lovely.

United KingdomFelt odd being in a disabled room but I suppose someone has to. Seemed wrong / mean to charge for water in the room when paying almost 200 euro per night.
Location - only a short walk to the old centre and area where you'd want to be. Staff - very keen to please and friendly. All staff - reception catering and cleaning. At breakfast I was shown the Frisella - just what wanted so thank you 😊

SerbiaHoly hell. At this price point, i didn't expect every single fabric - from the bedsheets to bathroom towels - to reek of vinegar. The AC barely worked, there's mold under it, and its ancient. The room and the entire hotel are a bit stuck in time, tbh, hardcore 80s furniture. Oh, and the pillows are giant and hard, neck hurts like hell. :/ TV is tiny, and ain't smart. Whoever is managing this hotel is trying to squize as much profit as possible with as little effort and investement as possible. Buying a normal clothes detergent would be a start.
The staff at the hotel is extremely helpful, kind, and amazing. The location is nice, close to the old town, and close to a bus station that can take ya to beaches like San Foca.

United KingdomThe breakfast was very nice but I do think for international travellers a few extra healthy and savoury options would have been nice. I am a huge fan of cake but but not really for breakfast… even though they were delicious!
This is a really lovely, quality hotel. I am quite particular and I would have no reservations about booking this hotel again for a return visit to Otranto. I wondered how I would feel about all the maritime objects around the hotel but it is authentic and interesting. The rooms are clean and crisp. The cold buffet breakfast is fresh and replenished. The staff are helpful and attentive. Parking is an extremely convenient bonus, as is the location, a 7 minute walk into the old town. I had a lovely time here.
