Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWe felt like the property wasn’t exactly upfront about our room. We paid extra to stay in the main house based on reviews. While it was nice to walk to breakfast, we were put in a converted barn below the main building. It was “eco-friendly” and we found it to be very basic, cramped, humid, and not comfortable for a four night stay. It was not on the examples of pictures of rooms. We do think the property needs to show the difference between the rooms because we met many people that loved their stay in the main house. It was much more comfortable. The floor was also extremely dirty and we had to have them fix this (they were very quick and accommodating about this). Had we known this ahead of time, we likely would have chosen to stay somewhere else due to the price of this room vs what we got. WiFi was also a challenge (believe it’s the area) so don’t expect super fast streaming. The property doesn’t allow drinks or food in rooms which we were also annoyed with given we are paying guests.
We loved the property overall. There was a fantastic view, the on-site restaurant was great to have, and everyone was insanely friendly. We really loved the cooking class we took. It was fantastic.

AustraliaMy stay in San Gimignano was nothing short of spectacular. The property was set against the picturesque Tuscan landscape, offering breathtaking views of the rolling hills and vineyards. The pool was the ideal spot to unwind after a day of exploring the historic town. The service was impeccable. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and well taken care of. As for the food, it was an absolute highlight. Dinner was traditional tuscan dishes and their wine was equally impressive, all made on the property. Overall, Poderi Arcangelo in San Gimignano was the perfect blend of luxury, relaxation, and authentic Italian charm. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a peaceful retreat with top-notch service and food!

United KingdomRooms are traditional and therefore basic, they charge double the cost for their own bottles of wine in the restaurant when ordered with dinner when you can buy them for half the cost in the shop. This wasn't properly explained to us until check out and we were still charged double the price.
Location is ideal, in the middle of Tuscan Italy surrounded by vineyards.Cooking class was fantastic and a definite must as it was educational and fun. Learning how to make pasta was the highlight of the stay. The food served and prepared in the restaurant for dinner is a culinary delight, it felt like eating with the family.

The staff is very nice, especially at the reception. The estate is in a great location with a beautiful view. The continental breakfast and the dinner is delicious. They also produce and offer very good wine.

CanadaNo glasses in the room. However, we were told to go get our own in the kitchen area. If you want to go into the San Gimignano town at night and don’t like driving in the dark… come back before sunset
Beautiful view. Swimming area. Quiet. Welcoming.

United KingdomThe bed in our room (Francesca) was very hard and we were only provided with one pillow each, although more were quickly provided when we asked for them. I asked if an extra blanket, topper or duvet could be added to the mattress to make it more comfortable and although this was quickly provided, the bed wasn’t re-made by housekeeping - I had to do this myself, removing all the covers and sheets - and the blanket was too small and thin to make any difference. So I had to re-make the whole bed using another blanket I found in the bottom of a wardrobe. A proper mattress topper, and some assistance from housekeeping to remake the bed would really have helped. There were also some issues with the water in the bathroom - on two mornings we were unable to have showers or flush the toilet for several hours. Breakfast was very nice but there wasn’t any variety each day and this could have improved it a little. The wonderful lady serving us at breakfast didn’t speak a word of English so we were unable to communicate about simple requests for boiled/poached eggs etc for our children. And although we loved the walk up to the main house for breakfast, we hadn’t realised it would be quite such a walk. The pool where we were was also much smaller than at the main house so I would recommend booking there instead.
Spectacular location and views and such a beautiful walk up to the main house each morning for breakfast. We also loved the infinity pool and the wine tasting and this was the perfect base for exploring the local area. What a special place and we will certainly recommend!

PolandWe had a room with attic accessed via shared (thus unusable) kitchen and living room. One night during our stay it was occupied by other guests, and we could hear all sounds coming from there, conversations, footsteps, etc. It was uncomfortable. Also because of the attic construction part of the room had low ceiling and was cramped.
Spectacular views from form the main restaurant on top of the hill on surrounding area. Good quality breakfast. Nice infinity pool. Close to San Gimignano. Helpful staff.
