Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe room was dark, could do with more lights or perhaps an extra window. The AC heater wasn't great we had to keep it running for some hours for it to warm the room, the electricity bills must be high. It would be nice to have coffee/tea facilities in the room, we had a kitchen but no basic supplies to make a hot drink (this area gets quite chilly in the evening). A fresh lick of light paint would make it look less cavernous. The nightstand lamps were not very good for reading. Definitely needs more lights and sockets.
The room was on the basement of a beautiful villa with private garden and parking just outside the room door. It's more like a studio, with a double bed, a single bed, and a kitchen corner. I guess the kitchen is equipped only for longer stay as the fridge was not plugged in. We didn't ask as we were there only for one night so not a big deal for us. The room is really spacious, functional if a bit dated; some bits could do with more TLC (for example the shower). The breakfast was great: super fresh bread and croissants, salami, cheese, a mix of continental sweet and savoury. Very filling. And the breakfast room was stunning. We didn't explore the town as we were tired from the hike, but it seemed pretty well stocked with restaurants. The hosts are really lovely people, very friendly and helpful. Salvatore especially is chatty and quite funny. I would recommend staying there in summer, as you can make full use of the garden and the room will feel less dark. In winter I think it would feel too oppressive and cold.

MaltaNothing fell short during our short two night stay; for a longer stay it would be even better if the kitchen is equipped with coffee making facilities and more utensils. This said, with the breakfast readily available, the amount of restaurants nearby, and plenty of activities to do in the vicinity of Nicolosi, dedicating time in self catering would be a waste of time because there are a number of outlets that are reasonably priced.
Our arrival in the morning, some hours before the check-in window. The host Salvatore has kindly allowed us an early check in to the apartment with private bathroom. The main bedroom consisted of a matrimonial bed, and one bunkbed sleeping two persons; the set up was excellent as all the family could sleep in one room. The temperature in Nicolosi was cold, and Salvatore made sure that the apartment was cosy by providing a gas heater in the corridor of the apartment. The bedroom and the bathroom are both equipped with functional ACs. We could stay comfortable in such ambience. I was allowed to park in a gated area of the property so parking was never a problem and with added peace of mind. The breakfast which consisted of super fresh bread, salami and cheese, croissants of our choice, orange juice, milk, coffee; it was a good start of the day. The centre of Nicolosi is just 15 minutes on foot away from Rosso Vulcano, and it offers a good selection of restaurants and grab and go pizzerias. Mount Etna is a 40 minute drive away from Rosso Vulcano, and Catania centre another 40 minutes. Salvatore and his wife greeted us every morning and made sure to meet our needs, even patiently warming up the apartment every day before our arrival. Hospitality was a 10 out of 10.

United KingdomThere wasn't anything to dislike.
The hosts are really lovely people, very friendly and helpful. Parking is available and there is plenty of space. It's a very quiet location and there are some restaurants and a little supermarket within a shirt walking distance. Breakfast was very nice with a croissant, bread and condiments and a very nice cup of coffee. Mount Etna can be reached within 25 minutes. I can recommend this stay and would definitely come back.

United StatesKitchen could use some upgrading of pots, pans and utensils and needed a sharp knife and cutting board for cooking.
Owned by a couple, it’s clear they put a lot of love into the place. The breakfast in the dining room was simple but lovely, and there was parking on site. 5 min walk into the city centre area.

Delicious breakfast with lovely juice, served on a quiet terrace under the pines with pidgeons. My hosts were extremely warm and generous and made me feel very much at home. I was very happy here.
