Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FinlandIt was a bit weird that the dorm door wasn’t locked all the time but the building and our own cabinets were so I guess that was okay. It was also still cold in April so remember your wool socks!
It’s a old historic building so it’s cold but comfy. There’s decent showers in the bathroom and a kitchen where you can store your own food, cook and eat or use the yard to have a morning coffee. The dorm rooms and beds are fine for the price. You get your own cabinet where you can store your stuff and valuables. Also the hostess and her daughter are friendly so all and all it’s good value for money.

United KingdomWalls are a bit thin, but you can tell the gests to tune it down a bit. Otherwise no problems and it's a very lovely place :).
super lovely owner who explained the map of the city on the arrival, free to use large kitchen, two very clean bathrooms, help yourself shower gel if you need, gigantic locker wardrobes, fast WiFi, window shutters for a dark room sleep, comfortable beds which were made every day by the staff, awesome location very close to Academia stop

GermanyThe only thing I would have wished for was the bathrooms to be cleaned every day.
Great Location next to the Academia Bridge yet very quiet. The beds were super comfy, lovely outdoor area, good internet and even a kitchen to cook in. Perfect for a Solo-Traveler like myself who wants to share a room but does not want to stay in a crowded hostel.

IrelandUnfortunately, we did not have a good experience at the accommodation (to put it mildly). Despite the accommodation advertising en-suite/private bathrooms, the rooms only had external bathrooms. To access the bathroom, we had to cross the reception area and walk down the corridor. To make matters worse, the bathroom, which was supposed to be private, was used by other people. This was incredibly frustrating, as we were not expecting such an inconvenience or misleading advertising. It's also important to note that the "garden view" from most rooms is actually a view of a wall. The experience was further aggravated by the loud noise in the morning, with people checking out right outside the dormitory door, which also serves as the reception. Furthermore, as we stayed during the winter, I must say that the room was quite cold as the heater was not operative. The final straw was the overall state of the accommodation, which was in very poor condition. The garden seemed abandoned, and the bathroom was full of mold (black mold). Since my daughter has allergies, we decided to leave the accommodation and request a refund for the unused night. However, to our surprise—and bordering on dishonesty—the accommodation refused to refund the money. There was no apology for the inconvenience, no restitution of the money—nothing. Truly regrettable. I believe a hostel would be a better choice than an overpriced accommodation with shared bathrooms and a deplorable state of upkeep.

United StatesA bit difficult to find and the hosts don't speak English. I searched so many locations for our 2 weeks in Italy, I made the error of booking a room without a private bathroom. This was a deal breaker for my wife and we wound up not staying.
Very Venician in its decor. Hostess was very nice. Lovely courtyard.

United KingdomMessaged the staff twice, once on my way to Venice and another to ask when check out was and I didn’t hear anything back, not very good at communicating. Had to phone in the end and the language barrier proven to be a bit difficult

United Kingdomthis is nothing to do with the hostel itself but I couldn’t sleep at all any night due to others in my dorm snoring and being really noisy :(
really friendly staff, good amount of bathrooms, everything was clean, really good location, food available to use in the kitchen was thoughtful and a nice touch.

New ZealandIt was stormy one night and all the doors and windows kept flying open. I also fell down the stairs and broke my ankle the morning I left hah! Not the hosts fault, but I’d watch those stairs.
Pretty peaceful to come and go from. nice place to stay.

Australiano fan or aircon in our room so it was hot, we had to keep the windows open to cool the room down so it was also a bit loud outside at times
great rooms and a fun vibe with an awesome outdoor area and kitchen.

Latviathe bedbugs. it was impossible to sleep due to their biting and we had multiple red bite marks the next morning :( I get it, guests come from different places, some must have brought them, but a good spraying and cleaning of the mattresses would have been great.
i really liked the location, the staff, the overall interior design of the place (lots of beautiful knickknacks and pictures). I loved the staff as well, very kind.

AustraliaA couple lived in a room attached by an accordion door next to the dorm, they would walk through the dorm at all hours of the night and day. Made privacy difficult (if you thought you were in the dorm alone, they could come out at any moment) and there was no communication that a couple were living in the room attached to the dorm. The "cooling" in the ad for the stay is a fan, the room was very hot and I shared a fan with another guest which wasn't ideal. Told me I hadn't paid, even though I checked and had paid through booking.com and wanted cash. Ended up leaving early to another city and forfeited a night there.
The location was good, away from the tourists and centre. Really nice courtyard/garden, 2 bathrooms meant you didn't have to wait. Wardrobes were useful as well.

United StatesThe bedsheet was itching, can't avoid mosquitos, couldn't lock the window because it systemically can't but the screen seems broken so I had to keep fighting with mosquitoes at night. The room itself looks nice but the price is a bit much for sharing 2 bathrooms with 4-6 people. for this price, it is better to have at least one own bathroom...
Nice location, nice garden, room decoration

CanadaWas not aware when booking that there was a room connected to ours, and I think they had to go through our room to get to the washroom. This made it feel as if it were more than a 4-bed room. There is no AC which means it gets extremely hot, but you can't open the windows unless you want mosquitos (of course, this is more an issue with Venice itself than the hostel). Even if we closed the windows during the day though, because it was connected to another room, it's still possible for mosquitos to come in
Truly a great deal for Venice, recognizing how expensive the city is. This hostel has a great location- it's a little annoying getting to and from the train station, but the location of the train station is not as central as compared to other cities I've been to anyway

United StatesGuests didn't interact much with each other, which I would have enjoyed. I got a lot of large bug bites (10+) sleeping there, so I think there may have been bed bugs.
It was a great location, a quiet area but not far from any main sightseeing locations. The bedroom and bathrooms were clean and nice, and each person got a large locked wardrobe.
