Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI thought the dorms could have been slightly cleaner than they were - they felt a bit grimy generally. The bathrooms also smelt quite bad but otherwise were clean.
Very friendly and helpful staff that gave us some good recommendations, nice cafe/chill out area and very cool atmosphere. You make your own breakfast and all food is provided - bread, eggs, cereal, milk, jam etc.

I was in the female dorm and it was perfect. The bed is really comfy and clean. You have space for your backpack and the structure of the bed gives you some privacy. The toilet and showers are clean.

Germany- I felt it was not really social - the private room (there is only one in the hostel) is not really comfortable - the doors are the worst. It is so loud all the time when the doors in the neighboring rooms slam. Furthermore, there was a very loud machine outside the room which also made sleeping without earplugs impossible
- very clean - very friendly staff - good, safe and quiet area - much within walking distance - Onward transportation can be easily booked at the hostel - clean and warm showers

United StatesThe 1920s music is charming at first but gets tiresome after a while. Unfortunately, the more contemporary pop music played later is even more annoying. Why not silence, at least for part of the day? Everyone has their own music now (and earbuds!) and some want to read, converse, or just vegetate.
Tasteful decor, interesting theme, helpful service, generous breakfast, free drinking water, “free drink” coupon redeemable for coffee (not one of those ‘party hostels’ that base their business model on alcohol), free bicycle use, etc.

VietnamThe classic vibes of the barn, wonderful smell from the coffee shop, super chill and clean toilet behind it, amazing drinks on stays ❤️❤️; I totally fell in love with the helpful, beautiful bicycle; the flawlessly clean mirrors in the female dorm toilets; clean and calm vibes of my bunk bed 💕 wifi and phone signals hardly reached where my sleeping cubby was, thus it brought amazing quality of sleep and rest there! ✨✨ Staff were helpful and trying to support me, but I didn't feel that "smiling from the bottom of the heart" vibes... There're lists of rules to follow, from house keeping to bicycle's use and of course, fines and deposit. I understand that the owner(s) just want to make sure everything's well maintained, but that gave me a feeling of they're just waiting for you to make a mistake so fees/fines gonna be charged?!... But anyway, I had a nice stay and did enjoy the calm vibes it had to offer along with the rules to be mindful of.

United KingdomThe door to the room creaked very loudly, which got tiresome after the first night - maybe put some oil on the self-closing hinge? Stop the noise? The lock on the door to my dorm didn't work at all for most of my stay, then was updated, no longer recognised keycards or finger taps (discovered when I tried to get in), had to be reset again, and it still didn't recognise the keycards but tracked finger taps. It required a passcode. When you typed the passcode in, it dinged with each character. Imagine that during the bedtime rush or someone coming in after midnight. I think I'd rather have had a lockless door. The cafe was prone to mosquitos (the rooms were sprayed daily).
The beds in the dorms were pretty comfortable and almost capsule-like. They were almost enclosed, had lots of space for stuff and a locker next to the mattress. The mattresses are firm. There's a curtain for privacy. Cleaners went through every day. The breakfast was limited but nice to self-assemble for a change. You get a free drink each night of your stay, and those were much appreciated! I enjoyed the hot ginger tea drink very much. The cafe was cute and comfortable to sit in, and the cocktails were pretty good. There were racks for drying your clothing inside and outside. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Location was pretty good, walking distance to most sights. Not much traffic outside, so quiet at night (general noise levels are dependent on who else is staying - some guests are quiet, but some like to sit in the communal area and talk past midnight, then slam all the doors on their way to bed. Luck of the draw).

PakistanTowels and beddings must be changed for all after every 2 to 3 days since the guest can't get to put the towel out for sun . The preparation for the paid meals can be in the kitchen and the inhouse hostel breakfast can be arranged outside within the sit area.
The part i liked best was preparing your own breakfast, that was the amazing super part of staying at Barn 1920s Hostel , plenty salad and all just ready for you make your own meal in the kitchen. I like the tuna sandwich at the Barn 1920s that was believed to be the only menu I order during my 6 nights at Barn 1920s.

United StatesWi-Fi cuts out frequently. Everything is a bit run down. Water was usually warm not hot in the shower
Front desk staff was friendly and spoke English well. Food carts right outside the front door. Water dispenser. Free bike rental which made visiting Patuxai, COPE and Pha That Luang an easy and fun morning. Bikes aren't in great shape, but useable. Large lockers (bring your own lock). 10 minutes walking from the riverfront/night market. They (like other hotels/hostels) were able to book my train ticket to Luang Prabang - it cost double what was shown in the LCR app (but the LCR ticket office had the same price as the hotel 638,000 kip). Prepare your own breakfast (eggs, oatmeal, corn flakes, toast, jam, butter, bananas, orange juice). Next day laundry service for 20,000 kip/kg

MyanmarThe staffs from front desk need to smile a little bit more. Check in process took a long time too. They should check the booking information more in details. The step of ladder for upper room makes me hurt when i stood on them.
I am really impressed by free drink ticket, breakfast buffet, drinking water supply. It is really worth with the price. When i get to the bed, smells so nice, comfortable and cozy bed space. The bathroom and toilet are so clean too. The location is near to so many food stalls.I was thinking that’s why this place got so many stars. If i got a remote job , i might stay at Barn 1920s for a long time.
