Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Sri LankaWaskaduwa Citrus has sadly declined in quality, going from a four-star establishment to having no stars at all in Sri Lanka. Upon check-in, they provided me with my room two hours later than scheduled. Similarly, during check-out, I had to wait an additional 1.5 hours. They practically wasted about 3.5 hours of my time out of 20 hours Stay . Why should we invest our time in something so disappointing? This hotel has turned into a complete disaster. To get anything done, you have to remind them more than three times, even for basic amenities like towels and a safe, which should have been included. When I made requests for these items, it took hours and more than three phone calls to receive a response. I urge you to exercise caution when you're with children. There's a water pipeline pathway that runs from the ground floor to the top floor. When we arrived, the door to this pipeline was left open despite our requests for it to be closed. Please refer to the attached photos. This situation poses a grave danger, especially if you're with small children. A fall could be fatal. Overall, everything was terrible.I would not suggest anyone consider visiting this place any longer. It's improbable that you'll have a favorable encounter at this hotel from now on.
This is my third time staying at this hotel. It was nice three years ago. However, it has significantly changed and is no longer comparable to a four-star hotel. It has transformed into more of a public hostel that happens to have a swimming pool. There are no longer peaceful swimming or relaxation areas. The place is crowded with people, and there are day outing programs with loud music. The customer service and front office management are of poor quality except hotel luggage cart trackers .

AustraliaI had a Superior Room with Balcony, and a Deluxe Suite for 9 nights. The Deluxe Suite is really nice but the Superior Rooms are absolutory horrendous. Everything from the floor, the fittings, all the way to the cleanliness is just garbage. The room was damp/musty, the mini fridge was not working properly, the phone was not cleaned for ages and it smelled like bad breath, the shower had a mind of it's own, and the door to the balcony was coming apart just to name a few. The service level at this hotel has declined way beyond acceptable levels since my first visit a few years back. In appears, that the senior and middle management are reasonably well trained, but the front line staff seem to have very little or no understanding as to how the hospitality/tourism industry work. It was evident that they had lost a huge portion of qualified, skills staff due to the unstable political and economic environment in Sri Lanka, and have resorted to hiring low skilled individuals to fill the void, which I believe is a recipe for disaster. In my humble opinion, the most important area the hotel should focus on immediately is sorting out their frontline staff, specially around knowledge, attitude, and customer experience. Frontline staff deliberately undermining their superiors orders right in-front of the guests, having a laissez faire attitude with guests, and overall mannerisms/lack of professionalism need to change. Even tough I have a ton of materials to complain about, it wasn't all doom and gloom. There were a handful of people that managed to change my mind from "not ever going back to Citrus Waskaduwa" to "I might consider". The first person is Mr Mohammed from housekeeping, who is an absolute gem! He was extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and goes above and beyond to provide an excellent service. Ms Abhirani from front office and the Operations Manager Mr Prasad Wijesuriya are wonderful people to deal with.
The location and the layout of the hotel was great. I had a Superior Room with Balcony, and a Deluxe Suite for 9 nights. The Deluxe Suite was new and the stay there was great, because it was recently renovated! Good clean beach, nice pool, and well maintained lawns.

United KingdomI loved everything.
The room was great and spacious. There was a giant toilet and a massive bed, four people could’ve slept comfortably on that king sized bed. It was really close to a beach and the pool was very nice as well. We went on all inclusive and all the drinks provided at the bar were no cost and exceptionally good. The food was delicious and there was a lot of variety, the deserts were very tasty and looked fancy.

location and room was fantastic. But night staff was not good and they need more training with how to deal with customers nicely.
