Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe had a leak in our room when we arrived and there were bugs from the light in my sons room. The staff were excellent in getting both issues dealt with immediately which is a credit to them and that the hotel knows what it's doing and the staff care.
Nice pool overlooking the ocean, great private beach with sunbeds and table service, good ocean views and decent breakfast and good food from the menu reasonably priced.

India- Air conditioning in the TT and pool table room was mostly turned off making it too hot to play there. - Lack of sea activities like kayaking which are expected to be available in such resorts.
The view from the room is nice from the upper floor rooms. A beautiful and a clean swimming pool. Adjacent beach is great with some part surrounded by rocks thus having a controlled flow of waves, making it a perfect spot for swimming and enjoying the waves at the same time. Food is amazing and so is the staff. Loved the fact that everyday breakfast had some different items unlike some of the places which have same buffet everyday. Other facilities like Table tennis, pool table, archery etc. were in decent condition too. Dilshan from the reception was very helpful in making our stay comfortable and addressing our requirements.

United KingdomWe absolutely loved the property and staff’s attention. We have been on a 9 day trip to SL and this was the best property that we stayed in. The room was huge, with excellent design and decor, and lovely ocean views. The staff were friendly and very helpful with everything we asked of them. The range of breakfast options was great for a hotel of this volume (low). My partner’s dietary requirements are gluten-free / dairy free food… and she generally struggled throughout our trip, but the chef did their best to provide alternatives . The private beach and the swimming pool were definitely worthwhile It is away from the hustle bustle of Ahangama’s hotspots … but that was a positive for us.

United KingdomJust that the food was often cold when it should have been hot!
Modern hotel with a sparkling clean pool. Beautiful private beach - not too busy. Rooms cleaned daily with fresh bedding and towels. Very helpful staff who could speak English and help in any way they could. Quiet area but only a 500 tuk tuk ride from the town where you could buy cheap locally made pottery, baskets, coconut mugs and sculptures. Fresh fish laid out - you choose they cook at DILS. Buffet food was ok but tended to be cold. Breakfast was excellent with western and Sri Lankan offered. Comfortable bed. Balcony with a sea view. Restaurant on the top floor with 360 view through ‘all glass’ surround. Lift to easily access everywhere. I would come back!!!

HungaryThe location of the hotel isn't ideal if you want to explore the culinary scene in Ahangama (and believe me, there is much to explore from this amazing casual East Falafel, Turkish Sisters, to the fancier Tel-Aviv style Citra resturant). The main surfing beach along with all the attractions are a 10 minute tuktuk ride away, and we simply didn't have energy for the haggling (the hotels never help you find a driver who would give you a fair price; it's like their in cahoots to get you for every dollar), so we chose to have dinner at the hotel restaurant, which we regretted. The place was almost empty, and the atmosphere was sad. I had a Caesar salad which was just mayo mixed with bacon chips and lettuce (no parmesan at all) and some weird-tasting prawns. My partner had some stir-fry, which was really lacking in terms of sauce. I had an extremely salty and equally expensive margarita. We left wishing we had gotten out for dinner. Their Sri-Lankan style dishes looked good, but after 3 weeks of curry, we just wanted something more familiar. Breakfast was ok.
The hotel is situated on what looks like a lovely private beach. There is a pool overlooking the ocean and we had the room on the ground floor which gave us private access to the pool and beach area. The staff were very friendly and the lobby area was beautiful.

AustraliaFurniture is a tad run down and could do with updating.
Absolutely loved our Panoramic View Room with direct views of the ocean and the private beach. The sounds of waves were magical and great contribution for a deep nightly sleeps. We also enjoyed the pool next to lapping waves. Some of the best foods we had are served at the hotel restaurant. Staff were all amazing, hospitable, polite and friendly and they made our stay. Super comfy beds. Great location as only a few minutes away from the fabulous Kabalana Beach.

United KingdomThe weather, but that's not the fault of the hotel. We read some comments beforehand about the road noise, which from the one side of the room with the doors open you can hear the road, BUT there is a second balcony in the Panoramic Suite overlooking the sea and is better anyway. However if using the hotels beach area and sun loungers, noise from the road will not lead to a peaceful experience. The mattress was very uncomfortable, which after complaining the manager had it replaced for one that was very comfortable and made a huge difference to our stay. We had an experience with Tuk Tuk driver territory wars with the so called designated hotel driver angry with the driver we had booked in from outside. We booked someone else because the hotel driver wasn't available, and suggested to do so by reception staff. It ended with the other driver being evicted and we had to use the hotel driver, which was also far more expensive than others. He did however have a change of tune, apologised, was very kind, gave us a free drink at sunset. Therefore all is forgiven. The hotel staff should have been clear and more helpful when the situation escalated.
It was a lovely stay at Gartons Cape. We booked the Panoramic Suite, which is huge and has two balconies looking out to sea. The hotel is on the coastal edge offering a fantastic view. We went in late April, which was a very quite period, at one point we were the only guests there. The food is good, room service was at times slow but very hospitable. The staff are very nice.

United KingdomIt was very dated. Holes in sheets, doors to balcony didn’t close, pool area was uneven and full of water that was so hot you couldn’t walk round pool.
Right in a lovely beach with sun loungers under the trees. Very helpful waiter at breakfast (on day one I asked what the Sri Lankan breakfast option was. There wasn’t one so on day two he organised one for me without my asking). Lifeguard very attentive.

United KingdomJust that it was a 30 min walk into the middle of Ahangama but there were still good food options approx 10 min walk away. Also the pillows: too flat with one but too high with two! Maybe consider some slightly firmer pillows.
Gorgeous hotel. Right on the sea front. Lovely big rooms with beautiful view of the sea. Delicious breakfast and other food ordered in the evening. Such friendly, helpful staff. Gorgeous swimming pool with view of the sea. Would recommend.

IrelandLocation, felt you had to get a tuk tuk everywhere
Pool area was lovely but felt the staff were never there to order from, always had to walk into reception in my bikini to order food and drinks to the pool. We also booked massages in the spa thinking it would a proper spa like vibe but turns out it’s only a room rented out by other spas. We really enjoyed the massage but just didn’t feel like we were in a spa. Breakfast was very good and had something for everyone on the menu. Over all comparing to other hotels I stayed in around Sri Lanka i felt the staff could have been more friendly.
