The food was delicious but there's too much, I was concerned about the food waste. We wanted to be out of the way so the remoteness was a benefit to us. Beyond that, you couldn't hope for nicer staff or a more beautiful setting.

One of the most beautiful hotels we've ever been to. Facing a lake, surrounded by mountains and jungle, it's genuinely breathtaking. The naturalist kindly arranged multiple safaris where we saw hundreds of elephants and a trip to Lion's Rock all of which was seamlessly organised. The buffet and food is delicious with many live cooking stations. One of my favourite moments was going on a walk around the property in the morning, spotting the monkeys, giant grizzled squirrels and having to turn around early because wild elephants wander there in the morning.

Staying at Heritance Kandalama was an unforgettable experience. The service was impeccable—truly, I’ve never felt so pampered. The location is straight out of a postcard, nestled near Sigiriya Rock and surrounded by lush jungle and the serene Kandalama Lake. As for the wildlife, let’s just say the monkeys and birds kept us entertained, practically dropping by for afternoon tea! But the highlight? Watching elephants wander by from the balcony of our room—it was absolutely breathtaking. A perfect blend of luxury, nature, and just the right amount of wild charm.

Location is exceptionally unique, attractive and tranquil. Possibly one of the best locations in Sri Lanka. The food and service were second to none. Sajith,Shalani,Rebecca, and Apsara were helpful throughout our stay. Every member of the staff greeted us saying’ Ayubowan’ wit a pleasant smile on their face all the time! We plan to come back again in a few years' time. This is Sri Lanka’s most celebrated architect Geoffrey Bawa's hidden masterpiece in nature. You don’t want to miss it! Surprisingly, I met an old pupil from my former secondary school who is now the chief engineer at Heritance!

Food prices in the bar area are a little steep, and hotel could do with some small cosmetic updates in places (bathrooms a little dated) but all that is outweighed by the wonderful views, excellent food and friendly and attentive service.

The setting is stunning and the staff were wonderful from start to finish. Good pool facilities and a decent gym onsite, the best buffet style hotel menu I’ve experienced (both in terms of taste and variety), and a wide array of excursion options available via the travel desk. Both drivers for the trips we booked (Sigariya, Minneriya, Anuradhapura etc.) were great and took the time to answer our questions, share local knowledge, and provide a memorable experience. Front of house always eager to say hello and make sure everything was okay. And housekeeping constantly keeping rooms fresh, including some very inventive decorative towel designs! All in all, the place is an excellent base to explore Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle and relax all at the same time.

Toilets in the rooms are a bit too old. Better to renovate the toilets for more cleanliness.

Everything was excellent here especially the service! We needed to leave by 6am for the Safari tour but the hotel breakfast doesn't start until 7, but the front desk provided our breakfast in boxes before we leave! And the lady in the Gift Shop called Padmini is so nice that she's helped me to wear my Saree. I would definitely come here for a longer stay if there's a chance.

We had an unforgettable experience at this extraordinary hotel, an architectural masterpiece that exceeded our expectations. The breathtaking views and stunning infinity pool were truly unforgettable. The staff were warm, friendly, and went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. A special mention to Apsara, who curated a fantastic excursion around the hotel, sharing its rich history and significance. Her kindness and attention to detail, even offering to capture memories of our tour, made it a truly personalized experience. If you're looking for a must-visit destination in Sri Lanka, look no further – this hotel is an absolute gem!"

Mildly out dated interiors. We had a leak in our bathroom, which the staff were incredibly prompt to fix and considering the hotel is over 30 years old, it’s about time a company as large as Heritence, invested in some refurbishing. Especially when the staff are so dedicated to providing good hospitality.

Really unique stay, friendly and welcoming staff. Beautiful scenery, and fresh food each day. Live music each evening which was superb, and a fantastic driver who took us to the elephant safari and drove us to our next stay in Kandy. The driver really went above and beyond for us, and we are very sad we cannot recall his name. He had worked for the hotel for 27 years, and genuinely appeared to love the job.

Nothing / could not fault it.

I thought I had died and gone to heaven! This place is expensive but you get everything you would expect for the price. We loved every minute of being here and made the most of the facilities. The 3 swimming pools are gorgeous, especially the one of the main entry floor, the buffet lunch and dinner were exceptional, with amazing choices, the same for the breakfast. This is the place to come if you want to treat yourself.

Make room facades more creative than plain walls. In keeping with main architecture build rock facades for room walls.

This hotel was one of my best stays on my trip to Sri Lanka. The building is old in a good way with many nature essences of Bawa. We could see many wild animals like birds and monkeys in the balcony and around. The staff at the main restaurant was very friendly, she was very kind and welcomed my family every time we go. Although the service of the hotel itself wasn't the highest level compared to other luxury hotels, but many of the staff were nice and smiling. It was definitely one of our great experiences to stay in Bawa's hotel.

Not very many sun loungers especially considering the size of the hotel. Prices for drinks and snacks are very high and have lots of taxes added on top. Watch out when paying because they take payment for your room before you arrive - we incurred unwanted credit card charges.

the food wasn’t great and was overpriced. As you are far away from anything else you are a bit captive so don’t have much choice but to eat at the hotel. Strange vibe in some areas like they aren’t quite sure what to do with the big space they have!

    - Rooms are a little dated and the hotel probably needs a general touch-up, but this isn’t a major thing. - Soundproofing wasn’t so good in the room. The inter-connecting door never helps. We had a loud family next door and could hear them very clearly. - It is really cool to see so many monkeys and langurs, but be careful as they sometimes try to take food (e.g., we saw a few monkeys make a dash for a family carrying plastic bags which appears to have food in them!).

    - Great setting. Lake, forest. Hotel is a spectacle in itself. Really fun to walk around (hotel is 1km end-to-end!). - Nice staff. Friendly and attentive. - Good buffet, especially for dinner. Lots of choice and overall decent quality. - Three swimming pools. - Rooms are nicely designed. Balconies with good views, although watch out for monkeys!

The food at the 7th floor restaurant was disappointing, though well presented. The staff were attentive and helpful but were definitely let down by the food. Also some staff were standing long hours. It seemed very tough for them and was hard for us to see though they didn’t complain at all.

Obviously the views, the aesthetics especially the architecture and the swimming pools. Kaveesha was very helpful at the big pool. Seeing monkeys from our bedroom and the restaurant was a treat for us. The magnificent trees all around. The cakes at afternoon tea were delicious.
