Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIt was a bit expensive for what it was. The bathroom was very outdated (there was rust in the handles etc.) overall ok but a bit expensive for what it was.

BelgiumTHE BATHROOM and room design. Agreed it is original style, but it definitely needs a modern remake! Very cold staff at reception! The hotel is in a remote place, nothing to do after 10pm. Keep that in mind.
Being surrounded by the tea fields in an old tea factory, with staff that used to work in that same factory, you feel completely submerged in the tea world. The spa was nice. Special thanks to the two ladies there. Special note: the train master and the gastronomic experience on the train. A must do!, the gardener and his exceptional collection of flowers. The amount of care given to those plants is amazing.

United KingdomThe rooms could do with a makeover and a higher standard of cleaning. The bathrooms need updating and walk-in showers would be a bonus. The dining options are limited and although the buffet was large the food was not the best quality. The mountain road up to the property is narrow and steep/bumpy so a good car is required. If you are arriving at night/early hours of the morning be mindful that getting into the hotel can be tricky and security is tight.
The staff were very friendly and helpful especially the manager who got out of bed to check us in at 4am. Our triple aspect room was large and offered great views over the tea fields. I love the history of the property and how the tea factory features have been retained.

United KingdomOrdered the same food on two different days and it was made completely different to the first. Seems like that’s a trend. The breakfast options were average and not quite extensive. Also it’s a tea factory but at check in the lady was quite faffy. She wasn’t really clear on what was around/history/amentieies and did not explain anything. I had an issue with hot water in the room and an engineer said it was fine I had to run it for 10mins and the water would be hot eventually. Which I then had to explain reception that for a 5* property it was unheard of that I had to run water for 10mins to be able to shower + they have a poster stating a minute of a shower equates to 11litres of water to try conserve water. However, running it for 10mins before going in would defeat the purpose. The manager did sort that out immediately by changing and upgrading our room to a better one. The property is quite remote from Nanu Oya, took quite sometime to travel and there isn’t much around as it’s in a remote hilly region just to make others aware
The tea and nature around is beautiful! A great location. The staff are friendly and accommodating. They sorted out the problem after having a conversation but it took prompting. Staff are quite friendly. Dhana our bartender/waiter was really sweet and explained everything really well! You could tell he loves his job. I do think he deserves a promotion as he was better than the ladies at reception who stand around doing absolutely nothing The BOP tea is incredible!!

RomaniaI felt like in a museum here 😂 and what I did not like it is that the personal is too kind, I mean it is exaggerated, they have a person who opens and closes the door after you, the personal is lowly , which would not be a problem, but I felt an excess here, that is only my opinion and hm overall it is too pricey for Sri Lanka.
The idea that you can sleep in an old Tea Factory it is brilliant,it was clean, everything just like on the photos, the room was big specious , the spicey tea was great, I loved it, they are the best in making it,the food was also truly good, buffet and you can go to tea pluking and learn about the process.

We had very high expectations of this hotel- the most expensive of our trip by far and was booked one night as a treat. The location was stunning and the hotel itself a design triumph - it truely was unique. But this did not justify the price. The service and hotel staff were great but the rooms were old and tired and needed updating maybe ten years ago. There were none of the nice extras you would get at a top hotel- they even charge extra for using the pool table which is frankly outrageous. The dress code is not enforced at dinner so not sure why that's a thing. The food was very good but the bar and library again old and not comfy so nowhere really to relax after dinner. Highlight was the nature walk with Mohan who lives in the village and taught us so much about the area and the surrounding plants and animals - this was a real highlight. I rated this hotel disappointing as the quality and comfort of the stay does not justify £200 plus a night.

United KingdomThe food is appalling. It’s shameful that a 5 star property can serve such bad food. Items on the menu were not available, orders came with 30 minute delays so we were effectively eating alone. When we gave feedback, instead of making a gesture, the manager stalked us for the entire next meal, all the way to the lift to ask if the food was ok. It was incredibly uncomfortable. The staff try hard but the manager should be sacked as he doesn’t have a clue. Aside from that, the entire hotel has passed its prime. Drains take hours to drain shower water, there are no mosquito nets which are badly needed due to no AC and therefore a need to open windows at night. The room fan sounds like a nuclear reactor. You can hear it in other rooms even when yours is not on. The carpets haven’t been changed since the 90s. On the whole, avoid staying the night here. Come up for a visit of the place and rush back to a place that’s worth the money.
The location is very special and truly exceptional. It’s the only reason to go.

United Arab EmiratesSuper over expensive and the only thing that redeems it is the view. Rude chefs, front desk not great. Over expensive drinks/food. If you come, come for 1 night only for the views alone. The hotel really is not worth half of what they charge. Paying so much money my first night I got a great view of the car park. I was moved 2nd day to a better room but front desk really didn’t care.
The view is outstanding. Sitting outside having clouds swirls around me was magical.

United KingdomThe bedrooms are nice but the bathrooms are a little tired. They could do with a refresh, especially given the price and ⭐️ rating of the hotel. It was a challenge to book excursions in advance of arriving to the hotel. Booking in at the spa also cause a lot of confusion! Could do with a few more activities as the hotel is very remote. For us, 1 night would have perhaps been better suited.
The look and feel of the hotel were like nothing we’ve seen before. It was a little piece of history! Very charming. The staff weee exceptional, in particular the F&B staff (Norbert), the spa ladies and the lady who did the tea tasting and picking experience. The food was very good, great selection and reasonably priced. I would recommend a la carte over the buffet - we tried both. We like the sustainable Christmas decorations too!

Netherlands- Staff forgot our welcome drink - Got a high tea but had to wait an extra 25 minutes before the tea arrived after serving the food - Food is very mediocre. For us it was the worst food of the trip (dinner) while they charge the highest prices - Uncomfortable thin pocketspring beds - Only 1 bottle of water in the room, all other hotels did 2. In addition, when we asked to fill up our bottles the next day they wanted money for this water...
- Absolutely stunning location, venue and surroundings - Amazing tea - Beautiful interior, although the bathrooms can do with a refreshment - Very friendly staff

IsraelThe beds were not comfortable- innerspring mattresses. It is a task to get into the shower since it is placed very high. The dinner was a disaster. The worst dinner we had in Sri Lanka. It was pricey yet not satisfying. There was no buffet and the options were meager and not tasty. The cook tried his best but it simply was not it.
The hotel is in an old tea factory. The scenery from the room was amazing.
