Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIt's a bit cold at night, so one blanket wasn't really enough. The place was a little less clean and tidy because of the dogs. Also it would be good if they had soap in the bathrooms.
Really good, sociable hostel. I enjoyed my stay here mainly because of how easy it was to meet people. The dorm rooms are fine but a bit cramped. They do a family dinner every night, and there's plenty of good spaces to hang out. They have 3 dogs and some really cute puppies, which were great to pet, although they did make the place a little less clean and tidy. They have good suggestions for things to do. We hiked the Pekoe Trail, which was great.

New ZealandJust note it is a little far from the city centre but easy enough to get a Tuktuk.
Such fun staff who are super friendly, super fun and social vibe with other backpackers. If is very much a hostel, so facilities are relatively basic, but are clean. Not sure why there is such a low average on Booking, I loved my stay. They have puppies and a few other dogs which I loved as well!

Sri LankaThere about 7 to 8 dogs open and running around the hostel which is okay but it was continuing to bark at us which was kind of scary and frustrating for people who are scared of dogs and they have not locked up them. it's always open in it comes to you which is kind of scary
The hostel is always full and a very nice place to network with people and socialize. The staff and everyone were really nice, the place was beautiful and very big. This could be the best hostel in Nuwerliya.

PhilippinesThe only thing i wanna mention was one staff shouted at me around 2 other guests which i was caught off guard. I thought he was joking and then continued to shout because he said i was putting him in trouble. He felt bad after and called my phone and apologized. So it was all good. I just didn't expect that and i even felt embarrassed in front of the 2 other guests but i just let it go. I didnt respond the same way. It was just not nice to do that esp because i was a guest and i wasnt a friend or a common person working there for me to be treated that way. But then my stay was still great overall.
It was great staying at Laughing Leopard esp if you are a solo traveler coz you will meet a lot of people. I really didnt have the chance to go with them because i went on my own to the tea plantations and waterfall by scooter and the rest of the time i was either working or sleeping. It has really good vibes. The family dinner (veggie curry) was so delicious!! Staff were great! They were friendly and helpful. I also appreciated that I rented a good scooter. There was no issue with it so my drive around Nuwara Eliya was enjoyable.

SloveniaThey took more than one hour to bring me breakfast. The location is a bit far out of the city center. The bathroom needs some adaptation because it doesnt look very appealing to walk into.
Loved the family dinner they prepared for us, I liked how everyone socializes outside all the time, there are many card games available. The staff are all nice and fun guys. They own four dogs and they are always around for you to cuddle. The beds are comfortable, there are lockers in the rooms and the rooms are very spaceous.

United KingdomAs said, party hostel and loud music until late in the night when other people were in bed. Some hostels have this vibe, so it's not a criticism - just be mindful when you book you may have some disrupted sleep. Also, there are several dogs at the property. All fine with me, but I did hear them barking loudly at other guests
Incredibly spacious private room in hostel. Really well thought out shared spaces, with a friendly and welcoming vibe from all. Location is so-so - a bit of a walk into town, but closer to other bits. Did have a great sleep the second night, as it wasn't so loud, but bare in mind it seems to be a party hostel.

New ZealandMusic goes on for a while in the evening. The location is a bit out of the way from the town centre, however it is closer to other sights.
Great for getting to know other solo travellers around a campfire. Staff provide train timetables and advise on local activities. The option of female only dormitories was great.
