Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe hosts were fantastic - super helpful and accommodating. We ate a lovely dinner and breakfast there - traditional Sri Lankan food… delicious. Our room was perfect - everything was very clean, the AC was very effective and even the smell on entering was lovely and fresh! Great location near nice Ayurvedic treatment centre (great massage) and some nice cafes and restaurants. Within walking distance of Lion’s Rock too.

ItalyThe location in the nature was amazing. The bedroom was cozy and very clean. The owner, Lakmal, and his family were very kind, welcoming and hospitable. The dinners cooked by Lakmal’s mama were delicious; the best we tried in Sri Lanka! Lakmal was also available to arrange beautiful tours around Sigirya area and more. We felt better than home!

IsraelThe place is stunning. A large area with a stunning garden. The room was spacious, clean and with good energy. The hosts were charming and helped me with everything I needed, gave me advice and organized transportation for me. The owner of the place made sure I wouldn't return alone in the dark and accompanied me everywhere. The food was delicious. A short drive to Sela Aria. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

IndiaNothing as such. Just the wifi didn't work properly and there was only one plug point accessible in the room.
Lakmal and family were extremely nice and guided us throughout our stay at Sigiriya. Breakfast served was wholesome and perhaps one of the best spreads I have had at a homestay.

AustraliaNot related to this accommodation, but be aware that everything in Sigiriya is more expensive because a big tourist area!
A very spacious, clean bungalow set in a garden with terrace for sitting in front (we had the triple room), fabulous for the price. There is a lovely shared breakfast/dinner terrace, and good home cooking is available for breakfast and dinner. The owners were very welcoming and caring, assisting us with all aspects of touring and travel. Lakmal even gave us a lift to a restaurant one day when no tuk tuk was available. Location is in Kimbissa, a little quieter than neighbouring Sigiriya, but still close to everything. Good points: Extremely comfortable and good value, very helpful staff and good food.

AustraliaFirst off, if I could give Liyon Rest 11/10, I would most certainly do so! This was one of the best home stays I have ever had the privilege to experience. Lakmal and his family were so welcoming, warm, helpful and just generally all-around great. Our room was immaculately clean and spacious, everything was so well thought out. Lakmal has a beautiful garden which just made our whole stay so peaceful and kept the property shady and cool. For dinner, Lakmal’s mother cooked an amazing meal and breakfast was absolutely yummy too (both traditional Sri Lankan fare). The location was superb: super close to the entrance to Sigiriya and Pidurangula, and Lakmal was also able to arrange a safari trip to Minneriya National Park. Our only regret is that our stay was for one night.

IndiaNothing to mention.
It is a spacious and comfortable stay close to the Sigiriya fort. Their hospitality is commendable. We were received with welcome drinks as soon as we arrived. The breakfast was homely consisting of fresh fruits from their garden, local dishes along with a beverage of our choice. Everything was good about the stay.

We loved our stay here. Lakmal and his wife were absolutely fantastic. They welcomed us from arrival as if we were family. We were welcomed with some tea & lots of kindness. Lakmal then arranged a safari for us for that day, which was fantastic, we definitely recommend it. He also got his mother to make us some lunch quickly to have before we set off, which was amazing. The food here is the best we have had in the whole of our traveling across Sri Lanka. It cannot be missed. All the people working there were also very friendly and very lovely. Lakmals mother was very sweet and always said hello or smiled as we walked in or out, so did all the employees. The accommodation was very nice, spacious, big bathrooms. We were in the private hut and it was lovely, we had our own little deck chairs out the front that we both loved. It’s very quiet here so you can sit out on the evening and enjoy the nature, we seen lots of animals here! Even fire flies lit up the trees, almost magical. This was our favourite stay and we will definitely return to Sri Lanka & this lovely place to stay. Nothing was too much trouble, they were very accommodating and we felt welcomed instantly upon arrival. Thank You for looking after us! We loved our stay with You 🥰🥰

BangladeshThere is nothing that I didn't like.
Everything, I must say everything. The calmness and quietness is just fabulous. And if you want to know the ancient history of Sri Lanka, Lakmal, the owner of the resort, is the best one. His wife Shalini, and Lakmal's parents are so nice to get you the home feelings. They are not only so helpful but they receive you as a family member. The resort's main attraction is its tranquillity. The nature says you everything here. The trees, charming birds' songs, changing of color in every moment is just beyond imagination. One more thing, don't forget to see the breadfood of their garden. Mr. Lakmal is a true gentleman and well educated. He explains the history of Ceylon eruditely. For the archeology and history lovers, Mr. Lakmal should be the best choice with whom you can make a visit in Anuradhapura, the ancient city of Sri Lanka. For the spice garden (Cooking & Medicine) or any Ayurvedic treatment, Sigiriya is one of the perfect places in Sri Lanka. In that case, Mr. Lakmal is the best guy acoording to me. He can show you the best place for buying these things in reasonable price and the best quality. And one more thing, that is Janvi, the little Princess of Shalini & Lakmal. She is so sweet and adorable. In a nutshell, it is just an awesome and awesome...

NetherlandsWe really enjoyed our stay here. Lakmal and his family were super friendly and helpful. The accommodation has a good location in Sigiriya, we had rented our own TukTuk and we could park this easily in front of the house. Without a TukTuk the centre is reachable by foot. We had dinner twice at Liyon Rest which was delicious and each morning we enjoyed a different amazing breakfast.
