The coffee shop is extremely expensive. During community events, they don’t offer discounts to guests staying there, and with the added service charges, it becomes quite costly. There’s no hot water in the evening, the power cuts happen quite often, and they don’t clean the rooms unless you ask them.

The location is perfect, just seconds from the beach. The staff is really lovely and helpful. I stayed in a private room—it was very simple but comfortable. There’s a nice community vibe.

Chill, quiet hostel with comfortable private rooms. Great location, right across from Kabalana beach and close enough to the main drag in Ahangama that you can get to by long walk/short drive, but far enough that you're away from the noise and crowds.

During my stay, the hostel did not have a social vibe and it was difficult to meet other travellers. The dorms rooms also felt a bit pricey.

The hostel is well-run and the staff are so helpful and accommodating. The location is ideal as it is directly opposite a beautiful beach and close to many restaurants and the club Trax.

Staff felt very cheeky in terms of taking money- eg advertised in WhatsApp group yoga classes, without mentioning at all that these had a cost. Coordinated family dinner and advertised for a certain price, then added a service charge, brought round cakes afterwards and didn’t mention cost. Felt a bit cheeky and more like a business with beds opposed to a hostel. Not best social atmosphere.

The beds in the newer dorm were very comfortable, spacious room, lovely grounds and incredible shower.

I had a bit of a problem with the cleanliness of the place specially the kitchen, otherwise it’s the perfect place to be at specially for surfing.

Loved everything about Mellow - if I ever go back to Srilanka this where I would stay!

Damp smell in the room, also I had stomach troubles after eating yogurt bowl for the breakfast (my friend from the hostel had the same problem the same day after the same food)

Some dorms are very humid. The prices are a bit more expensive than the rest around.

It was very good vibe in the Mellow Hostel. The garden and the Café are cozy, the beach is very very very close. There some nice yoga, brunch and community event. The people who there are nice. I will come back soon.

Bathroom fixtures had some issues in all 3 rooms. Menu is restricted (possibly due to us travelling during off season) but wasn’t too much of an issue as it is central to other restaurants.

Perfect location! Close to the beach and Trax. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. The building itself is pretty, filled with plants and cute decor. Staff were beyond helpful and very accommodating. Would definitely revisit if we’re back in ahangama. A perfect fit for friend groups travelling casually. (Plus points for the adorable dogs!)

We visited during the off season but that's not the hostel's fault! Only thing to fault is the cleanliness in the kitchen but really nothing to complain about at that price point and bearing in mind all the great things.

The room was really nice and comfortable and the hostel had a great vibe with awesome views. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Overall fantastic value!

The kitchen was a bit dirty and we had to go out and buy dish soap and sponges to clean. Could definitely do with some new pans etc.

The room was lovely and the shower was fantastic - cold and hot water at any time of day. The location is right across from the beach and right outside the bus stop which was really convenient for us. Wi-Fi is great no matter where you are around the property.
