How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Do not clean the room Ants near the swimming pool- you cant sit

No fridge in the room. The place was very understaffed and the food was not very good.
Loved the pool and view. The one staff member who was around was helpful when you could find him.

There were a lot of mosquitoes because it was right next to the lagoon, so it's a good idea to bring some insect repellent.
The pool and lagoon views were amazing, and the big shrimp I had for dinner from the lagoon were delicious.

Describing a room ‘deluxe’ is exaggerated and they’re building a new restaurant so a lot of noise and dumptrucks coming and going..(july ‘24)
Except for the occasional, low flying airplane… quiet place with nice view of the lagoon

Towels were not clean. They charged us 3 percentage extra. Did not provide dinner . They gave a very simple English breakfast. Not enough toiletries. Not good .

Would be nicer if there was more of a set up around the pool area to relax. The sunbeds are dirty and not comfortable at the moment.

everything suited us.
Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Did everything to make my stay pleasurable and helped with all my travel arrangements for my onward journey around Sri Lanka. I highly recommend. Nico and Lucky truly went out of their way to make our stay and our entire Holiday amazing.

It's a shame they don't offer breakfast before 7.30 am. If you have a mid-morning flight then you can't get breakfast. As proximity to the airport is its main advantage, this is disappointing!

The manager organised a morning tour of the town and markets for me by tuk-tuk...it was great ! :) Loved seeing the pelicans, fishermen and flying foxes in the evening over the lagoon.

The pool wasn't the cleanest one, also the rooms need a little renovation.
Good for a short stay, food was good, tasty. Rooms are clean, and spacious. Location is a bit too far from everything, but just for the info - just check it on a map.

Everything was very good.

We had a real good time there. Staff was extraordinary friendly - special thanks to Lucky :-) ! Breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious! Our room was spacious. The pool is very nice. We would come back again!

The pool. It had an amazing view of the sunset. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to swim in it as I was only staying there for a night. I’d definitely recommend the hotel to others. It’s in a beautiful, quiet location with amazing views and amazing friendly staff.

The place is far out and you need to take a 30 min ride to the city. There was nothing close by. It's a great place to chill out if you plan to stay in the accomodation and just relax. If you want to do touristy things and have some options around you, it's better to stay closer to negembo city.
Very kind and accommodating staff. Nico was helpful and understanding when we changed our trip from 3 nights to 1 night

the rooms were super big but not very well well finished (poor plasterwork & painting). if you do not have to high standards, you are fine though!
the pool near the lake was the best for our kids (12,14) to temper the jetleg. lots of birds super close by. they had a canoe with we were could use.

Meal can be improved.
We enjoyed to see birds at Lagoon especially at early morning. This hotel is located at right in front of lagoon. At night there were light bugs! We enjoyed boat trip to see birds and monkeys at Lagoon. We feel grateful for staffs to help us to arrange many things.

The room didn’t have a view - but the outlook from the communal area is great.
Nico Lagoon is a quiet hotel with functional and comfortable rooms. Despite arriving at 1am after a flight, we were greeted with cool drinks. It’s further than some other hotels from the airport but we liked its setting in a local village, with fisherman either side quietly going about their business. The pool looked lovely.
