Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

EstoniaOur dearest memories in Sri Lanka. Quiet place for nature lovers. They made us feel like home. Food was delicious and in large amount. We also booked Sinharaja rainforest hike with them. Guide was really knowledgeable. We saw so many animals and learned a lot. Thank you!

EstoniaWe enjoyed our stay at Sinharaja Rest very much. Maps may not for some reasons show the exact directions as there is a newer road uphill that one should take to reach the place. Relying on map directions we ended knocking on the neighbours' door but they kindly showed us the right direction : ) The place is an excellent starting point for a rainforest tour. The host organized a six hour rainforest tour for us and also took us to the bus station when we left, so we were very well looked after. The rainforest tour was awesome! We saw lots of birds, some monkeys and some snakes and our guide was very knowledgeable. Special care should be taken to keep leeches off as they are hungry and crawl faster than you might imagine. We were provided leech socks by the host that kept most of them away, but I still donated some blood to a couple of leeches. It may be a good idea to take some adhesive bandages with you to stop the bleeding. Sinharaja Rest is located at the edge of the village, so one can sit on the terrace and absorb the village sounds and listen to birds singing. They served breakfast and dinner, as well as tea and beverages. I have uploaded a 6 minute clip mostly filmed on the terrace one morning: https://vimeo.com/1070835704

ItalyIf you’re looking for an immersive nature experience, this hotel in the heart of Sinharaja Forest is an absolute gem. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality, making our stay nothing short of perfect. The property is beautifully integrated into the rainforest, with wooden bungalows offering breathtaking views of the lush greenery. Breakfast was one of the highlights of our stay: fresh tropical fruits, natural juices, aromatic coffee, and traditional dishes made with local ingredients. Lunch and dinner were equally exceptional, offering the perfect balance of authentic Sri Lankan flavors and high-quality, fresh ingredients. If you want to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature while enjoying outstanding food and service, this is the place to be!

United KingdomI loved my remote cabin in the forest, sitting outside drinking tea & listening to the birds singing. The host was really helpful, sending the location on Google maps & arranging a tuk tuk to take me to the bus station & make sure I got the right bus. Dinner was cooked for me both nights and the standard was really high, some of the best curries I’ve had in Sri Lanka. The breakfast was plentiful & delicious. On the day of my forest hike the guide picked me up at 6am. Nelum (the host) was up and had made an amazing packed breakfast to take with me.

GermanyThe stay was super nice because the room/cabin I had felt like my own apartment and it was perfect to be so close to nature and do the day trips to Sinharaja forest (which the host organized for me) and everything was cared for like a lunch pack and super delicious dinner on request- and great food every morning anyways:)) all of the people working at Sinharaja rest were so kind and helpful! Unrelated to the host, just about the experience in the immediate area: The area around is like a village, then town with paddy fields and everyday life happening, no jungle, that’s only when you enter the Sinharaja reserve with a guide. But that’s the case for all stays in that area.

Also being in such a wonderful environment with the bird song, forest noises and 'the nature' has been a joy. THANK YOU Nelum, Bandula, and your great team.

United KingdomArrival was a bit hard due to the poor roads and the patchy accuracy of the maps in the immediate locale.
The welcome we received was wonderful. The hosts were friendly and generous, and knew the local area, transport drivers and nature guides well. The location on top of a hill afforded some lovely views from the rooms. Our room was basic but spacious with AC, a fridge, and a mosquito net for the bed. The shower and bathroom were outdoors, but sheltered.

SingaporeNothing to fault. We actually booked another of their accoms some distance away months ago, but realised it was removed from Google and booking days before our stay, and thought we were scammed. We rebooked another accoms (this one), and was later clarified by the host that it was just a misunderstanding (he was recently married and closed the other house (opps). Congrats!).
Really liked our stay here. Spacious apartment on a hill. We had complimentary tea over sunset and a generous breakfast spread of assorted fruits, toast and omelette. I slept really well! We didn't go with their Sinharaja tour, but learnt that the host's family were one of the pioneer guides for the rainforest. The host still kept the first book of past patron's comments since 1995! Would have loved to stay for a few more nights for the serenity and warm hospitality. Maybe next time! 😉

FinlandThe perfect launch point for tours in the forest. The owner was very helpful, and his cousin an excellent guide (be sure to ask the tours from in-house). Also, they cooked perhaps the best rice & curry we had during our 4 weeks in Sri Lanka. Thank you!
