Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Czech RepublicThis was an absolutely amazing stay! The family hosts welcomed us with such warm heart and care, we truly felt like home. We met amazing travelers and enjoyed a really great time! The location is superb, quiet and local. The room was perfect and had exactly what we needed. The view was spectacular, breakfasts and dinners truly delicious! For the price you are getting sooo much value - we can’t recommend this place enough! When we are back in Sri Lanka we are definitely coming here again!

GermanyI had a very nice stay at the White Monkey. The room offers great views over the hills and all the way to the coast. The hosts were super friendly and helpful. They shared a lot of their experience and also invited me to a family birthday. It felt like quickly becoming part of the family. The offered dinner was very tasty and a good way to get in touch with fellow travellers. Thanks a lot for everything! Would highly recommend!

United KingdomViraj was an exceptional host. He was great at letting us use the home stay as a base to explore the area of Haputale, before our late train. His Mum’s cooking was some of the best meals we had in Sri Lanka. It was a very warm atmosphere and the sunrise from the room was glorious. Great value for money with a million dollar view.

Czech RepublicI had a wonderful stay at this guest house! The owners are incredibly friendly and honest, making me feel right at home. The dinners were the best I’ve ever had, with at least 8 delicious curries to choose from, including meat, eggs, and vegetarian options. Breakfast was also fantastic. The location is perfect – nestled in tea plantations, close to both the city and authentic villages, tea plantations, offering a peaceful retreat with easy access to local attractions. Highly recommend this place for anyone seeking great food, beautiful surroundings, and a genuine experience!

United KingdomNothing - everything was perfect
I don’t know where to start with this review because everything was perfect! The location is incredible especially with the views, the food the mum makes is insanely good, the family are so nice and welcoming and want to make sure you had the best time, Hiran and Viraj are lovely too and so are the dogs Benny and Molly. Also, they really took care of me when I was sick, took me to the local doctor, gave me plain food for the first night and regularly checked on me. I highly recommend!

Czech RepublicOur best stay in Sri Lanka. Amazing landscapes and views in the middle of mountains and tea plantation. Great breakfasts and dinners, everything home made cooking. Very friendly owners, they helped us with everything and also organized full day trip by tea plantation, tea factory and waterfalls. You have a feeling, you live together with them. I can strictly recommend this stay, you will enjoy it

LithuaniaDuring the night it was very cold, because houses are old, but this is what we expected for the price we paid, so its quite okay. Good breakfast and dinner, but should be cheaper for what you get. During the breakfast was not enough food for everyone.
The views were amazing and family that owns the property is really nice, friendly and helpful. We got nice tea and cookies when we came, people were very welcoming. The beds were comfortable enough.

FranceIt is the best guesthouse. I recommend this guesthouse to all people who desire a real Sri Lankan family experience and to eat the best rice and curry in Sri Lanka. The Dias family is wonderful. I look forward to going back to stay with them.

United KingdomWe loved our stay at Dias Rest, which is a great family run guest house! The rooms are very basic, the shower was cold but everything was clean and we had all the essentials. This minor negative was more than compensated for by the incredible hospitality of the Dias family! We are travelling as a group of 5 and we went for the very reasonably priced home cooked dinner for 1500 LKR. The dinner was amazing, Fareenah cooked an incredible potato curry and fried rice which tasted amazing (we think the best rice in Sri Lanka) and was eaten family style with the other guests. Best of all, one of the sons Shirodh took us on a tour up to Liptons’s Seat for sunrise and guided us on a hike down through the Dambatenne tea plantation! Highly recommend Dias Rest!

FranceWe came here because a friend recommanded the white monkey Dias rest and we absolutely loved it! The place is super clean with an amazing view of the vallée below! The family is amazing, so helpfull with everything ( booking tuktuk, offering 5o be the guide for the day, the food served is just sooo good, for diner and breakfast!!) It was a pretty amazing stay, we love it and would come back anytime to stay longer! Perfect option to stay in haputale instead of busy Ella which is only 50mn drive away. You can access the lipton seat and the diyaluma waterfalls for the day. Thanks again for your warm welcome!

BelgiumThe views from the rooms are amazing, but also the foggy clouds, which tend to pass by occasionally, add to a unique experience. The place is run by a lovely and welcoming family, and it was a nice experience to be part of this familial Sri Lankan atmosphere. We took Farina's cooking class, which resulted in a wide variety of amazing curries. Definitely would recommend this place!

Costa RicaNothing worth mentioning.
I absolutely loved staying here! The location is a bit outside of town which makes the views breathtaking. I enjoyed group dinner and meeting people to team up and explore the area/tea plantations. Hiran, one of the sons, is a sweetheart, so kind and mellow, I enjoyed talking to him, and he accommodated me on his bother's beautiful ecolodge down the mountain when the homestay was full on my second night. Amazing experience!

United KingdomJust a few small things: the room was a little damp, our clothes / bags felt wet after our stay. No hot water. No Wifi available.
Very welcoming and informative family hosted us. Traditional Sri Lankan meals freshly cooked by the lovely Mum and served at a big dinner table with all other guests, like a big family. Beautiful location with lovely views (when the mist lifts!). Lovely big glass view from our bedroom. A great little tea shop just outside the accommodation.

United KingdomSuch a great location for a calm retreat taking in the incredible views. Perfect location for walking amongst the hills and villages. The family running the guesthouse are so welcoming and knowledgeable of the local area. They also offer a great dinner/breakfast, cooking classes and handmade clothes. We planned on staying 4 days in Haputale but extended to 6 and was sad to leave at the end of it!

GermanyWe stayed at the homestay because one of my friends had recommended it and it didn't disappoint. The family is incredibly nice and tried to make our stay as comfortable as possible. It's situated in a beautiful scenery and from the room and bathroom you can overlook the teaplantations and mountains. They provided us with a tuk tuk ride to Liptons seat and even to Ella.
