Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe loved our stay at Moksha! The location was beautiful, in the hills overlooking the family's rice paddy away from the hustle and bustle of the Ella. Bola was the perfect host, he went above and beyond sourcing us a baby car seat for onward journey, as well as taking us to all the surrounding sites we wanted to visit in Ella in his tuk tuk for a small charge. Bola's wife cooked amazing breakfasts and a delicious dinner there each night, which we enjoyed in the outside dining area. The room was clean and really tastefully decorated, a lot of care has gone into creating it, and a bonus the main bed was huge which was helpful when our kids climbed in with us at night!

United KingdomThe noise, which should be expected within a rural jungle environment, dogs barking in the distance, squirrels jumping on the roof etc.
The villa is the only accommodation on the property, so the restaurant/ bar area is all yours which leads to a very peaceful and special experience. The friendly staff are dedicated to you as the only guest on the property.

SwitzerlandMoksha Eco Villa is a magical place in the middle of nowhere. We spent a delightful couple of days there. The place is very clean. The only thing to keep in mind is that it’s far from everything, so you’ll need your own transportation or arrange with a driver in advance. The staff is very friendly.

GermanyAll perfect
We were lucky to spend three nights in this little paradise and really enjoyed it. The accommodation is just outside Ella but can be reached quickly by tuk tuk or scooter. It is next to a rice field belonging to the owner's family with a great view of the countryside. There are always various birds and squirrels passing by. The accommodation itself has a wonderful, creative and comfortable interior with that certain something. The owner Bola and his family are wonderful, warm people who you immediately take to your heart. We always felt welcome and it felt like a home away from home. The breakfast was delicious and more than plenty and the evening meals prepared by Bola's wife were always excellent. The accommodation is a little paradise in the middle of nature. The hustle and bustle of the town of Ella can be forgotten here, if that's not what you're looking for, you're in the wrong place. For everyone else: Bola and his wife look after you so well that you don't even need to go anywhere else, as everything you need is on site. Little Adams Peak and the Nine-Arch-Bridge are both within a 20-30 minute walk from the accommodation. Bola was also kind enough to drive us to our next accommodation in Udawalewe. Thank you Bola for the great time with great conversations that we were able to spend with you. We will never forget this wonderful place.

AustraliaWe loved, loved, LOVED our time at Mocksha Eco Villa. What a beautiful and special place. The villa was built by Bola (the host) and was a really unique place to stay. The villa had beautiful lush green surroundings and very thoughtful little touches throughout that made it very homely. The bed was super comfortable and it was amazing to wake up in such a peaceful environment. We also had dinner there one evening and it was an incredible home-cooked meal cooked by Bola's wife. It was so delicious. Make sure to book their cooking class if you do stay as the food was AH-mazing. They also had three gorgeous dogs that gave us lots of love and cuddles during our stay. Aside from all the amazing things about the villa and space itself, what really made the stay special was Bola himself. He is so warm, friendly and helpful and we became fast friends, having long interesting conversations about life and just about everything else! We can't wait to come back the next time we are in Sri Lanka.

FranceAbsolutely nothing :)
Everything. The property was built entirely by the owner using mostly recycled material and is located on a lush green hillside about 10 minutes outside of Ella. Dinner was prepared by his wife and was hands down the best food we had in our two-week stay in Sri Lanka. We were welcomed with kindness, as though we were part of the family. If you are looking for genuinely caring hosts, honest interactions, interesting discussions, and beautiful setting, don't hesitate to book.

SpainWe would recommend arranging a pick up with the owner as the road to arrive is a little steep for some cars or tuctucs.
It feels like you’re lost in the jungle. It’s the only guest room in the house and it’s very special. The owners attention was fabulous.

When you're planning to visit Ella, you should write "staying in Moksha Eco Villa" on top of your list. We're so thankful that we choose Moksha after reading the reviews. And honestly: it is so much better in real life. You can't capture this in one picture or some words. All the little decoration details that felt like hidden gems, the sound and feeling of nature, the relaxing music in the background, the fireflies, the peacocks that wake you, the house more beautiful and bigger than imagined, the welcoming bar, the variety of sitplaces, the authentic village where everybody knows each other and the Moksha-dogs,... And this all for yourself! We felt like staying in the home of fairytale elves. And let us not forget the food. Even without everything written above, we would stay for the food. Breakfast was included and they spoiled us each morning with a surprising different breakfast (with the best pancakes you'll ever find). For dinner, we came back each evening because the dinner was so much better en more fresh than any restaurant we had in Sri Lanka. We we're so surprised that she learned this all by herself. We looked forward to it every evening and morning (and we oh so miss it right know). We also got the chance to get to know Bola and of course their most friendly dogs. By talking to Bola, we indirectly learned so much about Sri Lanka and the purity of life. When arriving to our next stay, we couldn't help but feel sad. It just wasn't Moksha. It were our 3 most authentic nights. Enjoy!

Sri LankaMoksha is a cosy lil cabin situated away from the city. Overlooking a paddy field it is an eco-lodge that shares serenity. The property is maintained clean and tidy with a fully equipped 'cute' attached bathroom. The host is amiable and serves delicious meals on request. Loved our stay and will definitely go back.

Germany- Not necessarily a bad thing, but we expected the place to have multiple guest rooms/ more „life“ as it looked like it had a community space for multiple people, therefore, we felt a bit „lonely“ being the only ones - we did not expect the place to be so far away from Ella. Of course, we saw if on the map before, but it was tricky to get a Tuktuk going there as they seem not to like the drive up there, so we walked (~30min) through the dark - the place was clean except for the bedsheets (which had stains and smelled). The staff happily helped in exchanging one blanket, but the one we got was more of a sofa blanket. Also, the towels we got partially still had tags, which felt strange.
- The area is quite nice because of the nature and the animals you can see directly from the terrace/room. A lot of potential. - We did not hear the nightclub that was mentioned in other comments - The staff was very friendly and helpful.

United Kingdom- some elements didn’t feel very clean, for example, the mug /glass in the bathroom I went to use was filthy. - the bed sheets smelt quite damp and unpleasant. - not the host’s fault at all, but the room is not soundproof and next door to a very loud club which played music into the night and disrupted our sleep.
- delicious homemade breakfast - friendly host - beautiful views

BelgiumYou really are staying in the jungle, so you will hear a lot of noises - bring earplugs and a sleeping mask. They didn’t communicate about prices/ cost upfront, they offered to drive us anywhere (since it’s not ideal to walk to the city center) but the communication about the cost came later, which isn’t the best feeling. If you say you want breakfast at 8, don’t expect it to be at 8. It really is ‘slow travel’ ;) Unfortunately they just opened a nightclub next door, which is a real shame. On our last night we heard the bass from evening all the way through the morning and lunch… It really is a pitty for Moksha because they created a beautiful oasis outside of the city center and the noise of the bars.
They are super friendly. They offered to pick us up from the station by tuk tuk which was much cheaper than the once at the station. They fixed the door and fixed a mosquito net above the second bed (big enough for an adult). The view is incredible, so lush & green. We were happy to be a bit further from the hustle and the ‘noise’ of downtown Ella. The breakfast was delicious and certainly enough. The bed is big enough and not surprisingly different than the pictures. You can walk to Nine arch bridge, Little Adams Peak & the zip line.
