Beautiful villa, quiet, well decorated and nice garden too. Delicious breakfast, definitely recommend this cosy place especially for couples.

No hot water in the shower and no hair dryer in the room. Very dark room which is not ideal for reading at night. No price list for expensive drinks and food (small beer at 60 MAD). No communication about what was for dinner beforehand (sometimes 2 courses, sometimes 3 for the same fixed price).

Great communal areas (inside and out) with lots of different games and seating possibilites. Very kind staff and delicious dinners.

The property is to be found in the middle of nowhere so best if you have a car or only if you are staying for a couple of days.

Gorgeous villa, both inside and outside, gorgeous and big pool. The staff are incredibly lovely and accommodating even if we did struggle with language barrier (French and Arabic speaking). The owner's daughter was visiting when we were there, and she translated for us from English to French. We paid for the smallest room, which was perfect for the two of us. Breakfast was lovely, eggs, various breads and fruit. Offer A La Carte lunch and dinner at set times, but on our last day very kindly offered to serve for us outside of these times.

We found the large double beds to be hard and that did interrupt our sleep a bit. We were not big fans of the traditional moroccan breakfast and would have preferred a continental option with croissants etc. The wifi was good downstairs in the open plan kitchen, restaurant, lounge area and by the pool, but it didn't extend to our bedroom, which would not have normally been too much of an issue except when we caught the virus it would have been useful as we spent more time in bed.

My family and I arrived fairly late in the day and were given a warm welcome by Gerard, his wife Gigi and the excellent team at Villa Maya. We had requested a dinner on arrival and it was really great, high standard home cooked, moroccan with french influences - and the quality of the food was high throughout our 11-day stay. Kudos to Gerard who with the team has built in only a year this great little hotel (11 rooms) in a remote area 20 mins by car from Essaouira Airport and an hour from the city. As well as the impressive stone architecture, the interior has been tastefully decorated and furnished. Unfortunately we were struck down with a virus which we think was probably Covid, from our second day at Villa Maya. However the team could not have been kinder and more supportive. Gigi, who also came down with the bug, supplied some cold medicines, Hanane and Neima made us medicinal brews that helped. We would have explored more and planned to hire dune buggies etc, which Gerard offered to help organise, but we were not up to it due to illness, so stayed more at the villa. This meant we were able to enjoy the beautiful garden and the games facilities with boules, darts, cards, chess etc.

The property also offers lunch and dinner, not à la carte and not very cheap compared to average restaurants in Morocco. We had dinner twice and randomly ate the same things. The staff only speaks French so to communicate you will need a translator if you don't know the language. Some rooms, including ours, are not covered by wifi, but in the hall and by the pool there is excellent coverage.

The place is clean, very well maintained, large and very well-kept rooms. The location is very suggestive, close to the beach if you have the possibility to travel by car.

Villa Maya is situated in a quite area at 30 min from Essaouira by car. The house has really relaxed atmosphere and the staff was so kind and did everything to make it comfortable for us. We could swim, play jeu de boules, dart.. Could really recommend Villa Maya.

Gérard and his staff made me and my teenager son feel like home at once. Warm , accurate , always available and helpful. Attention to details : we had fresh flowers ,from their lovely garden, in our room. The food was amazing: fresh stuff every day prepared with love by Hanane . Neima always spoilt me for breakfast: omelette , coffee , té menthe… Gérard is an unbeatable host, warm at heart and taking care of us with a lovely discretion. The pool , the garden , the hall, the room , the bed … a nest that we will truly miss .

Villa Maya in Essaouira is beyond charming! The fully-restored villa is astonishing and has a big play area with a swimming pool, darts, and garden added so much fun and relaxation to our stay. Our room was spacious, and the beds were incredibly comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep. But the highlight was undoubtedly the host, Gerard. We were the only guests, and Gerard welcomed us like family. He spent quality time with my partner and me, making us feel right at home. His kindness truly shone through when he prepared breakfast for us at 5:30 in the morning, ensuring we had a meal before our 3-hour drive to Marrakech for our return flight. Gerard was one of the best people we met during our trip, and his warmth and hospitality left a lasting impression on us. If you're looking for a place with fantastic amenities, comfortable rooms, and a host who goes above and beyond, Villa Maya is the perfect choice. We can't recommend it enough!

The owner should specify to their guests in advance that there's a paved road leading to the property. Waze and google maps will take you through a long rough dirt road.

We didn't have breakfast. The pool was excellent, and the hosts along with their dog Sol were extremely friendly. The place was very quiet and peaceful.

We had a car but if you didn’t you’d be reliant on taxis to get around. For us location was perfect to get to the airport and visit the beach if you want a change of scenery

Beautiful large family home. Double bed was very comfortable (best on our Moroccan travels!). Lovely place to relax and spend time by the pool enjoying the sunshine. Fred and Yan were very friendly and it was nice to stay in a family environment. We had the evening meal option and the food was exceptional. charming property run by a nice French couple. breakfast is superb and so is the overall. a delightful garden to relax, rooms are spacious and very clean. we would definitely come back.

The room wasn't served and the shower arrangement wasn't ideal. It's quite far from Essaouira and in a fairly remote location.

Nothing really stood out from the standard offerings, but it's clean and the breakfast is good.
