Overcharged, poor communication with the staff, false advertising regarding the price of the room

Booking.com website said the rooms would be $97 USD for 3 people for one night but when we went to pay they were using a much higher exchange rate -$1=1200 kwacha, the normal exchange rate is $1=1050 kwacha. The card machine also didn’t work so they made us go to the ATM which charged us €5 fees so we ended up paying €25 more than we should have. This is absolutely not acceptable and is false advertising on booking.com for the price of the room

Food was nice, rooms clean and comfortable

Staff were verbally abusing waiters and waitresses in front of guests. Awful behaviour.

Poorly maintained and managed hotel, but kind staff, interesting, vibrant location. Not recommended.

The hotel was not well managed. Staff were polite and some very friendly, but the management were quite rude at times. We found the breakfast abysmal, although the Malawian coffee was great. There were cockroaches and broken facilities (shower, toilet not working, windows open, mosquitoes etc). Rooms were a good size and the beds were not uncomfortable but the bedding had seen better days. Cleaning was not very thorough. When it worked the wifi was fine. The staff helped us with an affordable small room for holding our meetings which was good. Very much a mixed bag, but in the end we left early.

The location in Old Town was good, to be in the vibrant part of the city was welcome, and able to access some restaurants in nearby Area 3. Despite location it was not too noisy.
