Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The lodge was fairly decent and the staff was great!

FranceThe mosquito net had holes (though quickly fixable), most likely because it too close to the ceiling fan.
A homey place, clean and tidy, with comfortable bed and lovely colonial architecture. The garden around the rooms gives a nice cottage atmosphere. Caring staff.

Czech RepublicNice accommodation given the standards in Malawi. The personnel is friendly, the utilities sufficient. There was a 2-hours blackout during our only night but that's a normal thing in Malawi. There is also a huge breakfast but I recommend to tell the personnel what exactly do you want, otherwise you will be given e.g. a huge, not very breakfast friendly sausage.

United StatesThe water was turned off (district-wide) not just at the hotel several times during my week's stay. Furthermore there were several times I couldn't get hot water. I realize now I should have asked them and confirmed the hot was available, but they could have made this clearer with signs in the rooms to this effect. The mosquito nets need to be replaced. they are currently NOT large enough to cover the larger bed in my room nor touch the floor.
The Chef is amazing. The staff is incredibly warm and friendly and helpful. The gardens were beautiful. Locals frequently come here for dinner and to swim in the pool.

United StatesIt was mostly clean, but it was very evident that the toilet had not been cleaned, so it causes doubt as to what else hadn’t been cleaned.

United Kingdom- Shared bathroom leaves a little to be desired (no toilet seat, often no toilet paper, no hand towel). There is also only one shared bathroom which wasn’t an issue for me as the lodge didn’t seem to be full, but could be an issue if it is busy. - The sliding door to my room was quite stiff and difficult to open at times, and needs the handle fixing back onto the door! Found it needed lifting to move it. - Would be good to have hooks in the room to hang up towels, swimsuits etc. - Pool is absolutely freezing this time of year! Has some debris (sand, leaves) in it, but it was still nice to go for a swim. - The sun loungers spend most of the day under the shade of the trees so you’ll need to move one if you want to sunbathe. - Only one working bulb in my room, so it was quite dark at times. - Pillows were pretty lumpy and uncomfortable.
- The best thing about this hotel is the staff - they are absolutely fantastic. Went out of their way to make vegetarian meals for me as the menu doesn’t have many veggie options, and were really kind throughout my stay. - Location is great, within walking distance of a market selling souvenirs and some nice restaurants. - The food is really good and the prices are reasonable, but make sure to warn them in advance if you have any dietary requirements! - Pool area is great, it feels like a lovely retreat from the chaos of the city, with lots of green and even some chickens roaming about. - Rooms are furnished with blankets, a ceiling fan and mosquito nets.

BelgiumThe shower had no hot water and no door. In the morning there was no water either. They said (claimed?) this was in the whole neighbourhood, so not their fault.
Joseph, the manager help us with the bus we were going to take. He also tried to fix, less succesful, the shower.

I stayed only for one night because I had a short transit in Lilongwe. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff is available to help if needed. The lodge includes a nice garden and outside space. The food was good quality/price.
