How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The location is excellent, but the upper bunk beds are extremely uncomfortable—probably the worst I’ve experienced. There are no safety rails or barriers to prevent falling, which makes them feel unsafe. If you plan to stay here, I highly recommend booking a lower bunk instead

The hostel is very basic, but I think with the price that is to be expected. I stayed two times. The first time, when I arrived they told me they no longer had space or availability even though I already had a reservation through booking. After a long while, they were able to give me a room. It was an upgrade to a private room and I was very grateful that they did not just turn me away. However, even the private room was pretty basic. I would say it's okay. Just keep your expectations where the price point is.

WiFi was inconsistent on my stay. That said, I had connection most of the time. Really there wasn’t much I didn’t like. It’s a hostel and as such it delivered a good product.
The location was nicely centrally located to ferry and buses. The shower did indeed have hot water ( just a bit of patience is required for it to get to temp. The coffee and breakfast while very small was a welcome at this price point. The AC was very cold but staff were happy to adjust it without hesitation. Staff let me leave my backpack well before check in: many places unfortunately charge for that.

Everything is old and dirty. The photos must have been taken years ago. Sheet are so old that they have holes. Breakfast is very basic and only sweet (toast, jam, honey, Nutella, juice, cereals, tea & coffee). Bathrooms cannot all be locked, showers are small with just a curtain. The terrace must have been really nice but unfortunately not maintained. Chairs are broken, ceiling is licking, no charm at all.
Location is great, near everything, very central but still in a semi-quiet street. Staff seem nice.

Bathrooms/showers need a little upgrade- sink was leaking, but not a big deal.

Most importantly the wifi near my room didn't work. All of my other hostels had private bathrooms in the shared dorms. I don't like the shared bathrooms and it makes keeping them clean harder I think. I wasn't given a towel when checking in (I forgot it was available and didn't ask). The lightbulb on my bed didn't work and there was no fan like in the other hostels.
The location is good if you want to be close to the party area. Free water!

+ great location (close to the beach, the centre, Ado, Walmart) + friendly and helpful staff + luggage storage + AC in the rooms + breakfast was rather basic (toast, jam, cereal, fruit) but fresh and tasty - bathrooms were shabby, uncomfortable and lacked privacy

Very expensive for what you get! Breakfast was quite desagreable. And We could not eat more then what we were given. No butter, bimbo bread, and a strange choice of fruit (half of a small banana, 1/4 of a avocat, and some slices of apple). In a country with great juicy fruit, its so strange this choice. Rooms very small, and beds had no light and plugs to charge phones etc. Sheets were not in cotton. Toilets were not in conditions, shower had no water pressure .. etcetc I thougt there was some exterior space to relaxe. But zero. And there is no place inside to relaxe and meet other guest. As there is only a kitchen with an area where we take breakfast. But no confort at all. Chairs are so uncomfortable, that after a while sitting there one must leave...Quiet disapointed.
Location was quite good, 10m walk from Ferries. Staff that was on reception desk on my arrival was very nice and friendly. Matrass not good..

The ground floor showers are shabby and even if they get cleaned every day look dirty and decrepit.I was not even given a pair of sheets to sleep, and the AC on all night long got me sick. I had to take out a sweater for my backpack as I was so cold (despite there being like 30 degrees outside!), and only the day after I was told I could ask for a blanket. Why don’t they communicate that at the check in? Finally, there is only one plug available in your bed, while by now we all have more than one device to charge.

The bed is a good option for short stays but I consider that the room is not comfortable enough for long stays, there is not much ventilation in the rooms. The bathroom is mixed.
The location is perfect. Very close to the main attractions of Playa del Carmen. There is a very comfortable terrace. They provide breakfast and offered to wash my dishes, the staff extremely friendly.

The room was so small, no place for luggage, no keys for the door neither.
I liked the common area - rooftop where you can meet people and chill. Wi-fi was good, staff was also nice
