Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe hotel rooms could use some updating.
The Hotel is right on the beach and walking distance to all the bars. Went for a fishing tournament and the hotel has everything you need for this purpose. There is a bar/restaurant on site. Being able to keep our boat right at our hotel is a super bonus. The staff is phenomenal and there to assist you for whatever you need. Will be back next year.

FranceThere are piles of dead seaweeds nearby, that does not smell good. But the hotel is not responsible for this.
Very nice hotel, right on the beach. There is a nice pier with a shack at the end.

Valladolid was wondering be of our favourite places we visited on our 3 week trip. It was close to the town square and the price was very reasonable. The pool area was small but very cool. We were directed to a great restaurant Cocinita Maya a few doors down and had one of the best meals of the trip at a very affordable price.

CanadaWe loved that Machos was at the end of the Malecon, so we only heard a few partiers, but we could still easily walk to everything. The dock was beautiful and we really enjoyed swimming to the reef from the beach.

MexicoThe room was quite tidy and beds clean, but the bathroom door had splatter on it, and a sticker on the door that someone stuck on there from a new piece of clothing that they removed and left on the door. The bathroom was very small to move around in. Watch your head when you sit on the toilet! The staff didn’t seem very attentive. We moved some beach chairs into the shade as only the tables had shade. We left for a walk and they were moved back. When we came back we asked if we could set up the chairs again and we were told a large group of 30 people was coming, but no one came! And there was no one else even using any chairs or tables at the time. We were a bit surprised that they didn’t want to accommodate the only customer using the space!
The outdoor area was nicely setup and had a fun look and feel. The room had a/c and hot water, which were functioning. The location was fine, at the end of the malecón, away from the crazy cruise ship chaos that descends on the town.

GermanyThe room floor wasn't clean. There was still the waste from former guests laying around. If you have a room towards the street it can be very noisy during the night and early morning due to a lot of traffic. No internet available in 2nd floor rooms.
Location is quite during the day and right at the beach. Very comfy matress, nice seating area with sea view from the restaurant. Free drinking water available.

United StatesMy main complaint is the mattresses in the room. They were so hard. I had a really difficult time sleeping because they felt like stone. I have slept in many hotels and I think these were the firmest I have ever experienced. Everything else was fine, no other issues. Oh, no deadbolt or security lock on the door was hard for me but I get that it’s a norm in some places.
The hotel is in a nice spot at the southern end of the beach strip so the location is great. The service was excellent and the people who worked there were really nice. There is a dock and a restaurant on the property which was great. There was parking which is always a positive.

CanadaAs with the entire coast of Quintana Roo the sargasso weed was very much a problem in Mahahual. Our hotel staff did a good job of cleaning it daily but the smell could become quite strong at times. Our hotel was very quiet but became noisy and crowed on the days the cruise ship passengers arrived. However you understood this was the bread and butter for the hotel and staff so I just tried to stay away during those times. I wish my room had been a little more comfortable with perhaps a small table or chair as I was there for an entire week.
There was no breakfast included with my room. There was NO pool available even though there were photos of a pool on website. My room was very basic but it was clean, had a tiny balcony overlooking the street, but was at the very end of the malecon with nothing much around. I really enjoyed my interactions with the staff who were very friendly and helpful.

GermanyThere is very little concern for guests and the staff seems to be missing on a regular basis. For instance, I had to help a new arriving guest who was completely lost since no staff was in the reception, even though he actually called out for help. I untimely led this guest to a staff member who helped him check in, but this is not exactly my job. The staff was unable (or uninterested) in providing help when we asked for information on what to do nearby. It is also clear that they prioritize cruise passengers passing by the hotel over guests of the actual hotel; for example, I asked for a beer and it took over one hour to get it, while cruise passengers who arrived and ordered after me, were served first. This is also something we have experienced in restaurants around Mahahual, but it is still not acceptable. The pier and the hammocks are not typically usable/available most of the time since they put massage beds there, meaning you cannot use them most of the time. The hotel could use with an update. On the left side of the beach (on the supposed hotel car park), there is a trash pile and sargazo, which seems to be there for a while. Water in their beach is still full of seaweed - which was unexpected since I called in advance and asked if they were still suffering from it and they said absolutely not, since it was not the season. In a nutshell: the quality of the accommodation, staff and the overall experience is not aligned with or worth the price.
They allowed us check-in a bit earlier than expected. Free water. Working wifi.
